Harry Potter and the Candy Factory
#208 - First official meeting
“Did you invite other friends, Vernon?”
The sudden turn of events finally succeeded in halting Marjorie's steps, stopping her just as she was about to step onto the stairs, and safely redirecting her attention back to the present.
“Yes! Yes, yes, yes!”
Vernon, relieved, stood up from the sofa, wiping the sweat from his forehead as he hurriedly nodded and explained,
“It’s a workmate I met at the factory. He must have already eaten, but he came to visit me.”
“Workmate?” Hearing Vernon’s words, the displeasure in Marjorie’s eyes deepened.
After muttering a sentence filled with undisguised disgust, she didn't say anything more, but strode back to the sofa, and turning her head, disdainfully instructed Vernon, who was about to open the door,
“Just fob him off at the door! If you really let someone like that in, you can forget about your carpet.”
Having said that, she sharply ordered Petunia, who was standing motionless in front of the kitchen with a teacup,
“Come on, Petunia, where’s my tea?”
Vernon ignored Marjorie’s words. Although he nodded in agreement on the surface, he had already put it out of his mind, a look of uncontrollable joy on his face as he hurried to the door and quickly pulled it open.
After the door opened, a burly white man with a thick beard and a face full of橫肉 was standing at the door. Before he could react, a bright and pure smile appeared on his face, forming an extraordinary contrast with his fierce and terrifying appearance.
“Merry Christmas, Vernon!”
The familiar voice entered his ears again, and Vernon, who had thought he had misheard, breathed a sigh of relief, quickly accepting Peng Peng’s new look.
After all, he had been working in the magical world for some time. Although he still couldn't change the fact that he was a Muggle, Vernon Dursley was undoubtedly much more accepting of such unknown situations than before.
He quickly grasped Peng Peng’s thick palms, shaking them vigorously, his eyes reddening slightly as he looked at the man’s bright smile.
After staring intently at the other person for a few seconds, Vernon trembled and said,
“Merry Christmas, Peng Peng! Is this visit like I imagined?”
Looking at the friend he had known for only a few months, Peng Peng naturally understood what he meant by “like that”.
“Uh, it’s probably a bit different from what you imagined.”
After a moment of contemplation, he turned his head to look at the black car behind him, just about to explain something, when he was suddenly interrupted by a voice from inside the house.
“Vernon!! Why are you making your friend stand outside?! Shouldn't you invite him in to sit for a while?”
Vernon was stunned at first, but when he subconsciously turned his head, the scene before him shocked him so much that he almost dropped his eyes on the ground.
He saw Marjorie, sitting on the sofa, who had been looking sour and harsh before opening the door, telling her brother to quickly fob the person off, had somehow put on a gentle and kind expression, and the emotion in her eyes when she looked at Peng Peng at the door was even more eager than Vernon's.
Almost instantly, Vernon understood Marjorie’s thoughts.
He only felt the dense goosebumps crawling all over his body again. Looking at Peng Peng’s face full of 橫肉 at this moment, and then looking at his sister’s admiring expression, the expression on his face fluctuated several times before finally turning into some subtle and indescribable.
You must know that Peng Peng's current face, no matter how you look at it, cannot be considered good-looking.
If you had to make a comparison, it would be to the extent that if he walked down the street with a knife-wielding black man, the police's gun would definitely point at him first.
Even he would need a moment to accept a guy like that, he really didn't know how Marjorie could...
Just as he was thinking, Vernon's gaze turned to his sister's favorite English bulldog, Peter, by the fireplace.
At this moment, it had regained its usual spirit due to the sudden arrival of guests, but it seemed to be intimidated by Peng Peng's exaggerated size and appearance, so it didn't dare to run forward, but could only hesitate in place, whimpering faintly, trying to deter the other party.
Vernon seemed to understand something, and a sense of understanding arose in his heart.
Just as he opened his mouth to say something, his sister on the sofa, holding a teacup, couldn't wait to stand up from the sofa, awkwardly imitating the appearance of a lady on TV, twisting her waist as she came to Vernon's side, kindly and enthusiastically saying,
“I'm Vernon's sister, Marjorie Dursley. How should I address you? This strong gentleman.”
“Just call me Peng Peng.”
The simple-minded Peng Peng naturally knew nothing about the inner activities of the two Dursleys in front of him.
“Peng Peng, what a lovely name!”
Unexpectedly, Marjorie’s eyes lit up a bit more, praising without concealment, and then continuing without waiting for the other party to react,
“Since you are Vernon’s friend, why not come in and have a cup of hot tea that I brewed myself? I think we can chat while drinking tea, what do you say, Mr. Peng Peng?”
Peng Peng was at a loss because of this sudden enthusiasm. It seemed that whether he was in the form of a little elf or a human, he had never encountered this kind of situation before. In addition to being surprised, a feeling of emotion rose in his heart: Sure enough, the Dursley family are all good people!
“Perhaps another day! We still have things to do later, I’m afraid we won’t be able to have tea here.”
Just as Peng Peng scratched his shiny head and grinned, a voice suddenly came from behind him, answering for him in an unquestionable manner.
Marjorie's brows furrowed immediately, disliking the sudden voice.
She raised her eyes and looked in the direction of the voice, only to see a man wearing a trench coat and with long golden hair had already appeared two or three steps behind Peng Peng.
The man had a delicate smile on his face, which was neither kind nor did it make people feel hypocritical, and he had his hands in his pockets while speaking. In his casualness, he also brought out a bit of harmlessness to humans and animals.
“Ah! Mr. Black, you’ve come down. I’m really sorry, I should have opened the car door for you like Russell.”
Noticing Charlie's movement behind him, Peng Peng hurriedly stepped aside, making way for him to go straight to the door, and said with a bit of shame.
Charlie gently paced forward, standing in front of Marjorie and Vernon amidst their bewildered gazes.
“Vernon Dursley.”
He looked at Vernon and softly called out the other person's name.
Immediately, Charlie slowly took his hand out of the pocket of his trench coat, and first extended it to the middle-aged man whose body had stiffened in fright and whose face had turned red.
“Actually, this is our first official meeting, isn’t it?”
