Game of Thrones: Lord of Winter

Chapter 4 Picking up the sword

"Actually, I'm a good blower. My father once praised me." In the back kitchen, Virgie whispered to Cole.

He nodded in approval. No one is useless. Hardworking people deserve respect. So Cole comforted him and said, "They are just joking. You don't have to care."

Seeing that Cole didn't care, Virgie smiled honestly. He cared more about the opinion of Cole, his only friend. He was afraid that Cole would alienate him because of those words.

"By the way, I found that your strength seems to have increased." Virgie thought of something and said suddenly.

Cole was stunned for a moment. He clenched his palms. It seemed that it was indeed different from his memory. He had always subjectively brought it into the identity of his previous life. Some things were naturally ignored, just like the soup buckets that were moved many times today. In the past, he and Virgie had to rely on them.

Batches of night watchmen came and went. They were always busy during the day. Until night, except for the brothers on duty, everyone else would gather in the hall, chatting and bragging in groups of two or three, and playing dominoes.

By noon, almost all the Night's Watch had eaten their first meal. Cole and Viggy began to eat pork and wheat cakes with broth. If the brothers who went hunting brought back a big prey, they would have extra meals, but don't think about it today.

Cole cooked Maester Aemon's porridge and sent it to him. He didn't need to help with dinner because the Night's Watch brothers preferred to drink cider with their meal at night.

Maester Aemon would also come to the hall to eat with everyone in the evening, but he ate very little. He mostly listened to the stories shared by the Night's Watch. The night life of the Night's Watch was not all boring. When the candles in the hall were lit, some people would sing and some would share what they saw and heard.

After all, this was a group of people from all over the world.

The guys from the South would share their spring-like fields, dense knight culture and beautiful noble ladies in an extremely exaggerated way.

The boy from the West naturally had to talk about the Lannister family. After all, it was rumored that the shit of the Duke of the West's Guardian 'Tywin Lannister' was all gold. However, the dwarf denied it, but he still joked: "The bucket of shit is gold."

For a moment, the Night's Watch brothers laughed at the humorous little dwarf, but Tyrion Lannister just raised his glass and shrugged.

After delivering food to Maester Aemon, Cole came to the surroundings of the martial arts field as usual. Morning is training time. Many Night's Watchmen sweated in the open space, but in this cold weather, as long as there is a little water stain, it will quickly freeze.

He saw Jon Snow, who was fighting with two children taller than him. The swords hit the armor and jingled. Although he was not tall, he made the two people scream. Their fight seemed extremely fierce, and they seemed to have been ruthless.

A child named Hood chopped Jon Snow's ribs with a sword. Cole saw the painful expression on his face, but he gritted his teeth and quickly turned back to that arrogant face.

Hod and another child were in a worse situation. They were often wounded several times when they hit Jon Snow. If the blades were not unsealed, they would have died countless times.

Over there was the children's training ground, but the adults were in harmony. Everyone was fighting each other. Someone saw Cole and shouted for him to go down and try his hand.

In the past, he would refuse, because going down would only add to the jokes of these bastards.

He walked down the spiral staircase, but today he wanted to try it. He knew very well how important martial arts were in this world. Dragon-slaying skills can be used, but they cannot be absent. Oh, by the way, there are really dragons in this world.

"Oh, our little ranger is coming down." Someone said in a frivolous tone.

This was not malicious among the Night's Watch, but a daily joke.

"Give me the sword." Cole said to the trainer.

Without thinking, he handed over the sword in his hand. Some people were already looking forward to the new show tonight. Maybe 'Bozo' would dance like Cole swinging a sword.

He weighed the sword in his hand, and it was very light. It felt like it was made of plastic, but it felt like steel. Thinking of the feeling of weakness in holding the sword in his memory, and looking at the light sword in his hand, his body had indeed undergone some incredible changes.

"Hey, little ranger, why don't you hit the stake?" someone urged.

Cole nodded, walked to the stake, held the hilt tightly with both hands, felt the friction from the fur on the hilt, and swung it hard.

With a snap, the stake was split in two.

The black brothers all widened their eyes, and were even more surprised than seeing a woman. They couldn't help but wonder if the person in front of them was still the little officer who cooked delicious food.

"Oh, the Seven Gods. This kid won't be replaced by the White Walkers."

Cole himself was also very surprised to see the stake in front of him. He was so strong.

The Night's Watchman who handed Cole the sword came up and grabbed his shoulder, "I didn't expect you to be so talented."

A hint of embarrassment appeared on his face. In fact, he was a little surprised.

"Maybe you can go over there and train with Coach Alliser and the others, but you have to return the sword to me first." He pointed at the children.

"Thank you." Cole handed the sword back.

He patted Cole on the chest, "Night's Watchman, you're welcome. Remember to get more pieces of my broth."

Seeing Cole walk towards the corner where Jon Snow and the others were training, the Night's Watchman who borrowed the sword shrugged, "It seems the fun is over."

"You sinister boy, since you asked Cole to add meat to you. Come, I want to challenge you."

"Hehe, who made you react so slowly. I'm not afraid, you all come together."

In an instant, the martial arts field was full of curses, but the culprit Cole had quietly walked to the side of the recruits.

Jon Snow naturally noticed the movement over there. He looked at Cole's weak and tall body and didn't expect that he would have such great strength. He thought to himself, 'No wonder they call him a little ranger.'

Speaking of rangers, Snow thought of his uncle 'Benjen Stark', who was the chief ranger of the Night's Watch. But there has been no news of him for a long time. Some people say that he has died, which makes Snow very worried.

"Little Ranger, this is not a place for a cook." Sir Alliser is still so venomous.

"I want to train with them." Cole directly stated his purpose.

"It's up to the commander to decide. I remember you're not even a member of the Night's Watch. But if you can beat our Lord Snow, I might go to the commander to explain it myself." Alliser looked at Cole provocatively, as if to say, do you dare?

Like Cole's nickname 'Little Ranger', 'Lord Snow' is the name given to Jon Snow by Sir Alliser, and he hates it.

Cole picked up the sword. He also wanted to see how he was different from the trained people. He held the sword down and saluted to Jon Snow, "Please teach me, Jon Snow."

"Oh, it seems that our little ranger is still a polite person, but your head has been cut off on the battlefield. Maybe you can exchange it for a glass of wine." Alliser Thorne said with a sneer.
