Game of Thrones: I Created the Magic Web
#43 - The Black Hand Outside the Great Wall
Black soil, white wood – that was everything in the cave.
Here, far beyond the Wall.
Beneath the nameless, frozen hills lay countless interconnected caves, extending deep into the earth, and no one had ever fully explored all of these dark passages.
“The dead are becoming more and more numerous.”
A sweet, high-pitched voice sounded as if singing a sorrowful song.
She resembled a little girl, with large eyes that blended gold and emerald, and colorful, tangled hair interwoven with branches and flowers.
She wore a cloak made of leaves, and her dark brown skin was dappled like a doe.
An elf.
She was a Child of the Forest.
But in their original tongue, they called themselves 'Those Who Sing of the Earth'.
The Three-Eyed Raven in the weirwood throne croaked in a hoarse whisper, “The minions of the Cold God have revived, but we still have hope. The dead they control cannot cross the magic at the cave entrance.”
A White Walker could turn even thousands upon thousands of the dead into wights under its command.
The Child of the Forest looked worriedly at the old man, who was so ancient he was practically decaying. Most of his flesh had merged with the weirwood, turning into pale bark and wood.
Apart from a single crimson eye and long, pale hair that reached his waist, the old man was now just a talking human face on a weirwood tree.
This was the 'Last Greenseer'.
Originally, the greenseer was a tradition of the Children of the Forest, but now they were on the verge of extinction and had to rely on wise men from among humans.
Brynden Rivers.
This old man had once given them hope, but now it seemed that the end of their race was still unavoidable.
“Greenseer, perhaps we will all return to the earth with you.”
She knew.
The old man had long exceeded the lifespan of a mortal. It was only through unwavering faith that he had lingered in the world for so many years, but he had finally reached his limit.
Perhaps in a few months, or perhaps a year or two, the old man would meet his final end.
’Bloodraven’ Brynden had not given up.
“No, I have already found a new greenseer for you. He will do much better than I, and he will help the world stop the Cold God’s conspiracy.”
She knew this heir.
Brandon Stark, gifted with the talent of a greenseer, had received the old man’s attention and care since birth.
Unfortunately.
“Hasn’t that child already gone further south, to the plains that were once a thriving forest?”
Bloodraven felt both hatred and regret at this.
Things shouldn’t be like this. I watched him for so many years, how could it end like this?
He was unwilling.
He was Brynden Rivers, the famous ‘Lord Bloodraven’, of noble dragon blood. His past deeds had now become legendary tales.
People said he had a thousand and one eyes and was an evil sorcerer.
So what?
The slanders and fears of the ignorant only proved that his existence could not be underestimated.
Even after being exiled to the Wall and losing everything he once had, he became the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.
He gradually grew old.
The gods blessed him when he met the Children of the Forest beyond the Wall in his seventies.
Fate favored him.
He became the greenseer of the Haunted Forest, the Three-Eyed Raven, and lived until now.
Although he could not walk on the earth again, he could fly. He had ten thousand, a hundred thousand, a million eyes. He could see the whole world.
He didn't want to die yet.
Bran was the best opportunity.
He could start over from him, use the power of the Seven Kingdoms to resist the White Walkers, and reclaim the dragon's throne.
“The trajectory of fate has been disrupted by that person who should not exist. As long as we correct it, that child will understand the mission he bears.”
She looked at the old man with clear and ancient eyes, “How do we correct it?”
He said, “That person has powers that do not belong to the human world: fire, steel, eyes. Perhaps he is the tribulation we must face.”
Brynden remembered the scene he had seen.
“You are the only one in the tribe who understands the Common Tongue. I need you to personally make a trip, take a few strong tribesmen, and bring that person back.”
After hesitating for a moment, Brynden decided to reveal some of his trump cards.
“Take my raven with you. It will find the human skinchangers in the forest. These people can help you.”
She saw the expectation in the old man’s eyes.
For many years, they had only hidden from human traces. Now, they had to actively attack humans?
The person who should not exist. She imagined what he looked like.
She was a little scared, but she knew: She should listen to the greenseer’s instructions. The greenseer could see everything.
“I understand, Greenseer.”
Hopefully, this trip would be smooth. She turned and walked out of the cave step by step.
Behind her came another whisper, “Take this sword. Those humans will probably need it.”
She turned her head and saw a slender, black longsword.
She had traveled the human world for two hundred years.
She knew its name, “Dark Sister.”
The black raven flew out of the cave.
The Children of the Forest followed closely behind their companion.
Many dead were buried in the heavy snow outside the cave. The aura of life quickly awakened them, and the dead opened their eyes.
A large group of wights rose from the ice and snow, surging towards the Children of the Forest.
Is the Cold God watching? she thought.
Her own companion was a fox, and the other six tribesmen were riding brave beasts.
The shadowcat’s claws could tear a dead man to shreds in a few strokes, and the wild boar plowed a path with its powerful body.
The raven in the sky slowly circled, unaffected.
They quickly broke out of the encirclement.
She breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed they were just some mindless dead.
The wights fully controlled by a White Walker were much smarter. Coupled with the advantage in numbers, it would at least be much more troublesome.
The raven flew towards the southwest.
The tribesmen looked at her, their eyes filled with both eager excitement and worry about the unknown dangers.
She sang to the tribesmen in their original tongue: “The earth blesses us, the forest blesses us, the last greenseer has an heir, correcting the trajectory of fate, the tribe will surely prosper as before.”
Out of trust in the greenseer, the Children of the Forest left their last home.
… …
“Ahem, let me say something. Since that lord has ordered it, everyone must obey and not act without authorization!”
A tall human riding a mammoth shouted loudly.
The free folk burst into an uproar, each vying to express their opinions, and no one would listen to anyone else.
The Children of the Forest looked at this scene in confusion.
She wasn’t too surprised. Compared to the tribesmen in her homeland, years of traveling had made her understand many of the strange reactions of humans.
The humans outside the Wall were not as united as those inside the Wall, but they would not suddenly erupt into particularly large conflicts. She knew that time would calm these humans down.
The helpers the raven had found were all here, and the team was about to head to the Wall.
She now had much more confidence.
More than five hundred strong humans, more than thirty skinchangers.
Wild boars, snow bears, shadowcats, mammoths, direwolves, gray wolves, foxes, eagles, ravens, wild dogs…
No matter how terrible that person who should not exist was, he wouldn’t be able to resist, right?
She smiled pleasantly.
