Chapter 32: Martial Arts Performance at the Training Grounds
Sansa could hardly believe it was her from last night.
She had actually been so bold, only meeting the prince for a few hours before doing that kind of thing.
It was truly embarrassing.
After a night of calming down, Sansa returned to being a reserved lady.
Today, she didn't dare to be alone with the prince again. But being apart for even a moment made her heart feel empty, and nothing seemed interesting.
She could only hide by the window of the enclosed bridge, gazing adoringly at her prince.
This place connected the main castle and the armory, and the windows offered a panoramic view of the entire training grounds. It would have been even better if Arya wasn't being so annoying nearby.
Sansa helplessly glanced at her younger sister, who was shouting excitedly.
On the training grounds of Winterfell.
Prince Tommen and Bran Stark were sparring with wooden swords.
Both boys were wearing sturdy protective leather armor, and Rodrik Cassel, the white-bearded master-at-arms of Winterfell, was acting as the referee.
Sansa's gaze was solely fixed on Prince Joffrey, who was watching from the sidelines.
Bran and Tommen had been clumsily fighting for quite a while, and finally, the slightly heavier Tommen fell first, with Bran raising his wooden sword in a victorious smile.
Arya on the bridge also cheered for Bran.
Ser Rodrik looked towards the sidelines, "Your Highness, Crown Prince, Robb, would you like another round?"
The attendants and knights around Joffrey laughed.
In the previous match, the Crown Prince had held an overwhelming advantage, and if it hadn't been a match to first blood, Robb would have lost quite badly.
Joffrey stopped his subordinates' impoliteness, "Let's change opponents. Theon?"
Theon Greyjoy, already nineteen years old, was very surprised, "Me? Prince Joffrey, have you chosen the wrong person?"
Joffrey was full of confidence.
The suffering he had endured under Jaime's training for over a month had not been in vain.
Not to mention the effort, the spiritual growth brought by the runes had also greatly enhanced his learning talent. He was confident that his skills were no less than the renowned Kingslayer.
Although his experience might be lacking, his physical advantages were enough to make up for it.
The magical energy produced daily by the Growth Rune was making him stronger, and his increasingly powerful mental strength allowed him to control his body better. Even without those obvious or hidden magics, his current physical attacks were enough to defeat any normal human.
Joffrey and Theon walked onto the training grounds.
Both sides fastened their protective gear, held wooden blunt swords, and slowly circled each other, approaching.
Everyone was looking forward to it.
Theon was the oldest, with experience and skill honed over time. The Crown Prince had also defeated Robb before, so it seemed it would be another fierce battle.
Joffrey decided to end the fight quickly and teach Theon a good lesson.
He hadn't come here today specifically to show off, but to leave a deep impression on the minds of these future players in the game of thrones, making them afraid to easily oppose him, and even recruiting them for his own use.
For someone like Theon, who was sensitive, insecure, and arrogant, beating him into submission was the simplest and most practical method.
The two men stared intently at each other, moving their feet and approaching each other.
Only five meters apart now.
Joffrey seized the opportunity, burst forth with power, and dashed in front of his opponent, unleashing a storm of attacks.
Theon only saw a blur of light.
The sounds of wooden swords colliding grew denser and louder with each breath, and people seemed to hear the groans of the wooden swords before they broke.
Theon relied on his experience to desperately grip his wooden sword and parry, "Impossible!"
Theon couldn't believe it.
Although this arrogant prince was tall, he was only twelve years old after all. How could he possess such monstrous strength!?
But his arms were already numb from the impact, and his steps were constantly retreating.
Crack!
Theon's wooden sword shattered into several pieces, and he staggered back, then stood there dumbfounded.
The Crown Prince's sword was across his throat.
Sansa on the bridge revealed a touching smile, "I knew it, my prince is definitely the most amazing."
Arya pursed her lips.
On the training grounds, those who had come with Joffrey applauded and cheered unrestrainedly, and Stark's subordinates were also exclaiming in amazement.
"Worthy of being King Robert's son, the demon of the Trident River has a successor."
"King Robert's warhammer is world-renowned, and it seems that His Highness the Crown Prince will also inherit his father's fame, and the Seven Kingdoms will surely prosper even more in the future."
Theon Greyjoy was completely stunned.
Although he was now living under someone else's roof, often subjected to ridicule and scorn, Theon knew that he was not completely useless.
I am the heir of the Iron Islands, a tough Ironborn!
My archery, my swordsmanship.
Even Robb can't beat me!
But now.
I lost to a twelve-year-old arrogant brat!?
Theon felt that even his last bit of dignity had been trampled underfoot.
Various emotions in his heart overwhelmed his mind, and at this moment, he forgot all sense of hierarchy and order.
"Switch to real swords! Do you dare to fight with real swords!?"
Theon roared madly.
Ser Rodrik immediately reprimanded him, "Theon, have you gone mad? Using real swords is too dangerous, only blunt swords are allowed for sparring. Accept it when you lose!"
Robb also frowned, "Calm down, Theon, don't offend His Highness the Crown Prince."
Most of the others watched coldly.
Joffrey didn't mind.
"It doesn't matter, if Theon wants to see a real sword fight, I'm naturally happy to oblige."
Theon Greyjoy smiled with a distorted expression.
Joffrey glanced at him.
"Just a friendly reminder, my sword is not ordinary, it can beat you on its own. Don't blame me if your sword breaks."
The Hound on the sidelines immediately brought Joffrey's "Dragonflame" over.
Everyone's eyes turned to look.
Joffrey reached out his right hand and grasped the hilt of Dragonflame.
Amidst the pleasant, cold sound of metal friction, a streak of bright white light grew out of thin air from the scabbard.
The sunlight obscured its face.
Dragonflame lowered itself and entered its master's shadow, and the sword finally appeared before everyone.
People were immediately captivated.
The dark, mysterious patterns, the faint, flickering scarlet light.
Valyrian steel sword?!
No, a more beautiful and noble sword than that!
Theon, who was already not favored, had now completely lost people's attention.
Robb and the others began to dissuade Theon again.
Theon also felt the shadow of defeat, but how could he back down now?
No matter the outcome, he had to continue.
After urging for a long time, Theon finally received his sword from an attendant.
Joffrey stood still, leisurely watching Theon cautiously advance and retreat, and even had the leisure to wave to Sansa on the bridge.
Sansa exclaimed "Ah" and shrank back inside the stone wall outside the window. How could the prince see this side?
Arya giggled at her silly sister.
The audience in the training grounds had already grown impatient, and they booed, telling Theon to either attack quickly or admit defeat.
Theon took a deep breath, rushing towards Joffrey as if he was about to jump off a cliff.
Dragonflame danced in the air, and people saw a fiery red veil fluttering to meet Theon's steel sword.
Clang, clatter~
The upper half of the steel sword fell to the ground, and Theon only lasted a few breaths before the half of the short sword in his hand also lost control and returned to the ground.
The ending was without suspense. But people were still shocked by the sharpness of Dragonflame.
If a war were to happen, how much blood and life would it absorb on the battlefield? It was unimaginable.
Joffrey sheathed his sword.
Robb, Jon, and Theon were all there, it was the right time.
"Just sparring isn't very interesting."
"Single combat should be left to the soldiers. I've thought of a game that might be more suitable for us."
