Exploiting Hollywood 1980
Chapter 21 The Second Protagonist
"Memory,
may be beautiful,
however,
things that are too painful,
cannot be recalled,
we just choose to forget."
Madonna sang Barbra Streisand's old song again: "The Ere", which is the theme song of the movie of the same name starring her and Robert Redford.
This time even director Alan Parker couldn't help but applaud, "Good, she sang very well. We can consider using her to play CoCo."
"No, Alan. She should play Doris. Look at her nose, figure, and singing skills. She looks like Barbra Streisand when she was young. It's suitable for the average-looking, lack-confidence Jewish girl Doris."
When she heard that she looked average and lacked confidence, Madonna curled her lips.
"You must be blind, David." Director Parker's nose became bigger when he was angry, and he began to criticize the producer mercilessly, "Doris is a girl who lacks confidence, look at her." He pointed at Madonna with her chin raised, "Is she a person who lacks confidence?"
Ronald saw that things were not going well, and the two were going to quarrel again. I quickly and quietly stood up from the seat I had just sat down, leaned against the wall, and moved towards the door step by step. If you can't reach an agreement this time, don't bother me again.
Seeing Madonna looking over, I quietly made a shushing gesture to her, indicating that she should not tell anyone about me.
The director and the producer quarreled in front of Madonna for a long time, and suddenly remembered
"Ronald, what do you think? Eh"
"Where is Ronald? Have you seen him?"
Madonna shrugged and spread her hands.
"Okay, okay, let's not argue here. Madonna's matter will not be decided for the time being. We will decide his role in the next round of auditions," the producer said, pointing at Madonna, "You come and leave your contact information and wait for us to notify you."
"What is this?" Director Alan Parker saw the notebook that Ronald forgot to take away, and flipped it open. A crumpled paper folded twice fell out.
The director unfolded the paper, and it was a fragment of Hillary's script.
"My dream is to dance all the classical ballet roles before I turn 21, including Giselle, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, and Black Swan."
This is a good show, Director Parker applauded in his heart, and slapped the table with a snap: "Hey, you go make ten copies of this paper."
The judges on Joanna Merlin's side have been filled by another colleague, and Ronald strolled around the audition points on the first floor.
When he arrived at Margaret's place, he had agreed to watch the dance auditions today, so a chair was added behind the judges' seats. Meg was interested in the two leading actors in the dance department, and he also wanted to see the quality of his competitors.
He watched several in a row, and none of them danced ballet as well as Meg.
"They are all more suitable to play the lazy Lisa Monroe."
"Who is suitable for Lisa Monroe?"
Ronald turned around and it turned out to be Meg.
"Why are you here?"
"The director asked me to go up directly this afternoon to audition for the second round of Hilary and Lisa Monroe." Meg smiled.
"I'll go to see you audition then."
The next person to audition was a Chinese girl, who was vying for a role in a Chinese extra.
"You can also play this Chinese ballet girl." Ronald quietly joked with Meg.
"Don't talk nonsense." Meg interrupted him seriously and dragged him to a corner, "Don't mention my Chinese ancestry again, Ronnie."
"Why?" Ronald didn't understand.
"I haven't told anyone about my Chinese ancestry except you. Especially now as an actor, if someone identifies me as Chinese, I won't get any roles in the future. How many Chinese roles are there in Hollywood every year?"
"Okay, I get it." Ronald made a zipper-zipping gesture.
"Well, I'm going to prepare for the performance, don't bother me."
Meg's acting skills are still in the training stage, and she needs to be alone to prepare her emotions.
Ronald was waiting to see the last few interviewees in the morning.
"Next," Margaret called in another ballet girl.
"Let's get started. Follow the steps in the audition notice."
The girl had blonde hair and an elegant figure. She had already changed into her ballet training clothes and dancing shoes.
She got ready and began to spin with her legs, one circle, two circles, followed by an arabesque on tiptoe, holding steady for half a second, like a beautiful white swan.
Ronald was stunned. This was the girl who played Hillary in his dream.
She stood up suddenly, accidentally knocked over a bottle of water, and hurriedly cleaned it up in a hurry.
The girl gave him a reproachful look.
"What? Love at first sight?" Margaret whispered to him and joked.
"No, I feel like she is Hillary." Ronald looked serious. This joke must not be heard by Meg.
"She should indeed pass. Her skills and temperament are in line with Hillary." Margaret smiled and handed the girl a green card. Write your name on it and go to the second floor for the second round of interviews in the afternoon.
Ronald leaned over and saw that the girl's name was Antonia Franceschi.
"Italian?"
"Antonia Franceschi, you're the first one."
The second round of interviews in the afternoon was held in the large room on the second floor. Director Alan Parker, producer David Da Silva, Margaret and other casting directors were all sitting there.
The director also installed a camera, which was specially used for shooting 35 movies, to record the audition process.
The actor's face will undergo some wonderful changes after being refracted by the movie lens. Some people who are beautiful in life may not be beautiful in the camera. Or conversely, ordinary people in life become charming in the camera.
It's all up to the movie gods to decide.
"Take this," Allen handed Antonia a piece of paper, "Get familiar with it, we'll start in five minutes."
Five minutes later, Allen turned on the camera and signaled for the girl to start.
Antonia Franceschi sat on a bench with her hands folded on her belly. A sad mood brewed.
She acted very well, she opened her mouth with a crying voice, and tried her best to hold back the tears. Chu Chu's pitiful look was heartbreaking, and then she began to talk to herself:
"Look, my dream is to dance all the classical ballet roles, including Giselle, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, and Black Swan, before I turn 21."
Wow, Ronald stood up again.
Everyone looked at Ronald and blamed him for interrupting this wonderful performance.
The most surprised thing is Margery, what happened to Ronnie today? Stand up suddenly twice in front of Antonia? He couldn't help but look at Ronald.
Ronald was shocked and frightened.
He had his eye on director Alan Parker.
This is a script he wrote. It was written about Meg's secret dream, and it was also the script he promised Meg to throw away!
Allen Parker actually used it for auditions! How did he get the script? Why did he do this without consulting himself?
Meg would definitely blame him.
Meg Tilley was among the crowd watching, covering her open mouth in shock with her hands.
A pair of wonderful eyes looked at Ronald, as if condemning him. Why not keep your promise? Want to give the director a script that belongs to Meg alone? Why let another girl read the lines that belong to Meg alone?
Ronald also saw Meg, and there were silent accusations in the air.
Speechless.
A large amount of regret surged into Ronald's heart, and a drop of sweat slipped through the collar of his shirt with a tie and flowed down his back.
This drop of sweat was like turning on an emotional switch. Surprise and regret suddenly turned into anger, directed at director Alan Parker.
Ronald felt the blood rush to the top of his head with a buzzing sound. Adrenaline was excessively secreted in a short time, and his hands began to shake involuntarily.
The only trace of reason left allowed Ronald to know the consequences of the attack now, so he held it tight and did not rush out to sabotage the audition.
"Look, there is no room for a baby in my dream."
The lines read by Antonia Franceschi became very strange when they reached Ronald's ears.
The sounds of the outside world seemed to be separated from him by a membrane. All the sounds became softer and blurry. Apart from the sound of blood flowing rapidly in his ears, there was only the sound of his own teeth clenching.
The fists that were getting tighter, the veins on the arms were exposed, and the teeth were rattling, which startled Margaery next to her.
The nurse, played by Joanna Melling, utters her line: "Do you pay by MasterCard or American Express, Honey?"
Antonia Franceschi almost laughed. Who wrote this wicked line? It was humorous at the end of the tragic scene. However, she still held back her laughter and raised her head to look at the nurse, showing confusion about the future. Had a great audition.
After her wonderful performance, what she was waiting for was not the director's approval, but a loud noise.
"boom!"
Antonia was startled.
It's Ronald.
He couldn't hold it in any longer and punched the table.
