Exploiting Hollywood 1980
Chapter 255: Stay away so you don't get splashed
"It was a Thursday night, just like every Thursday night in every bar in every city where young people live in the world. The Spotlight Club was packed with boys and girls. This is New York, so the boys were wearing T-shirts, sunglasses and shorts, and the girls were wearing miniskirts and had rock star Madonna's hairstyle..."
Ronald had the cover story of the latest issue of "New York" magazine in his hand. David Bloom's article was very sensational and could arouse the envy and jealousy of young readers. The editor-in-chief adjusted it to the cover feature report.
The report was very long. At the beginning, it described the male stars of the three boys' gang, who used their eyes to choose the most beautiful beauties in the club, and then used their eyes to let them join their table.
"A girl straightened her long white T-shirt outside her blue skirt, pushed her black bangs away from her eyes, patted her hips with both hands, and slowly walked to the table...even though she already knew that the three stars had regular girlfriends."
Ronald felt that the article was already close to a movie script, vividly depicting the mentality of those girls getting close to the stars and the reckless side of the three boys' gang actors.
Three brats yelled "nazdorovye!", the Russian toast for "good health". But in fact, here, it is a private signal that each brat can only choose one girl in a club, and when everyone yells this signal, other brats can't have any idea of her.
There is a pretty boy with a calm demeanor, who is the unofficial president of the brats. Maybe it's because he is the son of a famous actor, Martin Sheen. At only 23 years old, Emilio Estevez looks like his famous father. His innocent sweet smile attracts more women, and he can't resist them.
"She's the playmate for today," he whispered, and an exotic young woman in a purple jumpsuit sat next to him, smiling like an old friend.
This is the Hollywood "bratpack", the new Rat Pack of the 1980s, just like the Rat Pack of the 1960s - a touring band of famous young stars, wandering around parties, women and good times.
The Hollywood Brats act together as much as possible - for the average American moviegoer, they have seen at least one of their joint films in the past four years.
The first Brat film was "Lights Out," about the kids taking over a military academy.
Then came "The Outcast," an adaptation of Hinton's "The Untold Story," directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Ronald Lee's "Fast and Furious Richmond High" took them one step further, into the eyes of teenage audiences.
Next came John Hughes' "The Breakfast Club."
And now the Brats' latest film, "St. Elmo's Fire," will be released in New York.
"Why am I here?"
Ronald looked at Niceta and Richard, who had come all the way. What's going on here?
"Your name was only mentioned once, and we thought it was a positive report, so we didn't ask for it to be deleted."
Although "New York Magazine" is a self-respecting publication and would never delete relevant content because of the complaints of the interviewee, the reporter David Bloom is willing to do anything for money.
Then reporter Bloom listed the Hollywood "Brats."
Tom Cruise was named the "hottest" kid. His "Good Boys Are Crazy" earned the film company more than 30 million.
Then there was the most talented kid, Sean Penn.
The minority representative kid, Nicolas Cage.
The hard-working kung fu kid Ralph Mazzio.
"These are all positive images, so Paula discussed with the public relations company and kept Tom's name in the report."
Ronald expressed his understanding. Ralph Mazzio was also the result of Weintraub's overnight public relations and was put in the group of positive kids who were motivated.
Then there are a few stars that David Bloom deeply hates, perhaps they should be called members of the "Brats Gang"
"Emilio Estevez, the president of the Brat Gang."
"Rob Lowe, the pretty face."
"Judd Nelson, the most unworthy kid."
"Matt Dillon, the kid least likely to replace Marlon Brando."
"Andrew McCarthy, the most unsociable kid."
"Matthew Brodick, the kid who is barely a Brat Gang member."
After this list, David Bloom's machine gun began to fire. These people did not go to college and entered Hollywood to act after graduating from high school. Most of their parents are insiders, and their starting point is much higher than that of ordinary people.
And they are not willing to spend more energy to learn acting skills, skipping the key step to success required by Marlon Brando, or the more recent Robert De Niro and Al Pacino: years of acting training.
Young actors used to spend years under the wing of respected teachers like Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler before venturing onto the stage, let alone in the movies. Today, that step is considered less necessary.
“Is Tom’s PR ready?” Ronald asked, looking up at Niceta.
“Yes, it’s coming out the day after his interview is published.”
“How is he doing with Marty in Chicago?”
"He is still familiar with the script. You know his dyslexia, so he needs more time than others to prepare the script. When will you return to Los Angeles?"
"I have an appointment with Disney's Eisner next week to discuss Disney's live-action movies. He has obtained his screen fund, but he has not yet invested in a movie. The fund director has urged me again."
Ronald scratched his head. George Jr. called. He couldn't deny it. He might have to go to Eisner to talk.
Ronald continued to read. The reporter said that Emilio deliberately called the cinema manager to get a free ticket for the movie Dyhawke, and put on a stinky air of "Do you know who I am?" just to show his privilege.
"Dyhawke" is a special effects blockbuster starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Brodick. If Emilio wanted to watch it, he didn't need to call a manager to ask for a free ticket.
Unless he did it in front of the reporter for face.
Ronald continued to read the report. Reporter David Bloom changed the subject and unfolded an adventure story from the perspective of Emilio Estevez.
Emilio has a master, Harry Dean Stanton. He is the ex-boyfriend of Nastassja Kinski and Rebecca De Mornay. He has the ability to pick up beautiful girls without spending money, without industry status, and without being handsome.
Emilio often climbed to Stanton's house on the top of Beverly Hills to learn how to pick up girls. In addition to the well-known Demi Moore, he has more than 20 temporary girlfriends.
"What did this Emilio do to offend the reporter? Why is he described so badly?"
"Hey? Why is he involved again? "Ronald found out that he had another enemy.
After coming out of the Spotlight Club, Emilio ran to the Japanese restaurant across the street and asked the bodyguards to clear the best private room for him and his friends to enjoy sushi alone. The bodyguards stopped all the diners outside and only let in pretty girls for autographs.
His girlfriend Demi did not come with him for the second meal, and Emilio was looking forward to another pretty girl fan. However, it was not a fan who came in, but another informal member of the "Stinky Boy Gang", the only one who won an Oscar, Timothy Hutton.
Hutton's hair was greasy, and the two talked about their mutual acquaintance Sean Penn, who was now dating Madonna all day. After Hutton left, Emilio loudly teased Hutton in front of his friends, saying that he had lost money on three movies in a row, and now no one in Hollywood wanted him to make a movie.
"Oscars are shit, it's not okay if you don't make money. If you want to stay popular in this industry, you have to keep making profitable movies. I'm about to write, direct and act in a movie myself, and so is Rob Lowe."
"Is it Timothy Hutton? "Ronald looked up at his agent.
"The news now is that he, and possibly Sean Penn and Madonna, Emilio has no self-control and has made random comments about many people. These people may cause trouble for him."
"And you, he also commented on your work. We asked reporter David Bloom to delete it."
"I guess it's nothing good." Ronald saw that Emilio had so many enemies, so he was no longer prepared to add insult to injury. Otherwise, if the younger ones are beaten, the older ones will come out. It's best to keep a watching attitude.
"Hahaha... Bloom wrote well, praising us as wise and powerful, and we are the most talented young actors in Hollywood."
After the New York magazine was published, Emilio Estevez found Rob Lowe and Judd Nelson and began to brag about himself. The length of his story is much longer than that of his two best friends, which is also a place where he can gain face.
Lori Rodkin, Judd Nelson's girlfriend and agent, saw something wrong and pulled her boyfriend aside, "Did Emilio offend someone? Why does this report say that you don't hone your acting skills? You are obviously a student of Stella Adler, and we were introduced by her daughter. "
"I don't know. There are many people who are jealous of Emilio's achievements and family background. It should have nothing to do with me. I see that the whole article is generally talking about him. I am just a supporting role."
"Are you stupid?" Rodkin said angrily, "Why did Tom Cruise and others just mention a name, while you and Emilio are tied together, and all the bad things are done by you and Rob Lowe? You have to issue a statement and draw a clear line with him."
"Isn't this bad? We are friends."
"Friends? You see he will soon put the blame on you." Rodkin was so angry that he threw his bag on the ground.
"Mr. Estevez, your phone."
"Dad? Why are you calling me?" Emilio was drunk and unexpectedly received a call from his father Martin Sheen at the bar.
"Who is plotting against you? Why is there this report?"
"No one? The reporter is my friend. I asked him to come to the club for an interview. He also introduced some of my friends. They were also on the cover of the magazine. They can't thank me enough."
Martin Sheen was almost angry with his eldest son and had a heart attack. "Friend? Is this how your friend slanders you? You can only rely on me to act? You never hone your acting skills? You have a formal girlfriend and twenty temporary girlfriends?
Call your agent immediately and do what he says. I will go to talk to Mr. Eisner about the distribution contract for the new film."
Emilio Estevez finally reacted and looked at his table.
Wow...
Everyone vacated a stool, which was where he sat. A minute ago, everyone was desperately trying to get closer to the president of the Boys Gang, but now they were avoiding him like a patient.
"Demi, where are you going?"
Emilio saw that Demi Moore was also leaving, so he tried to keep her. This was the only girlfriend he could talk to in this situation.
"Go find your twenty or so temporary girlfriends!"
Demi turned and left the bar.
She returned to the luxury apartment on the top floor of the brand new building, smoked a cigarette, and calmed down. How should she use this situation to gain the greatest benefit for herself?
"Hey, Ronald, I want to ask, what's wrong with Emilio? Did you take action?"
"No, he probably offended other actors who competed with him for roles. I'm a director, and there is no fundamental conflict between him and me." Ronald denied it immediately.
"What should I do? Ronald, I'm a laughing stock now. Everyone laughs at me. Not only do I have a bad eye for people, but my boyfriend also hates me."
"You have to decide what to do. I can only say that someone will fire at him in the next week. You'd better stay away from him and don't get splashed."
