Exploiting Hollywood 1980

Chapter 265: Burger King's Discovery

Founded in 1954, Burger King is one of the top five fast food chains in America.

Their success is largely due to the founder's pioneering use of television advertising to promote his hamburger fast food restaurant.

In the late 1970s, Burger King successfully caught the popularity of "Star Wars" and launched glass stickers with various characters and scenes when "A New Hope" was broadcast. It became a national brand.

However, after many years, the popularity and customer flow brought by "Star Wars" have tended to decline, and they urgently need new advertising ideas to tap new customers.

The new marketing director of Burger King is in the conference room, discussing the presentations of several advertising companies with his subordinates.

The proposals of the old partner BBDO and another large advertising company JWT are very interesting. Most colleagues in the marketing department support the ideas of these two companies. It seems that the final winner will come from between them.

"BBDO's creativity highlights the customization of burgers. Attacking the fixed meal of McDonald's, the industry leader, Burger King allows customers to decide whether to add ingredients such as cucumbers, sauces, and onions. McDonald's is very rigid, and all burgers have the same taste."

This manager prefers BBDO.

"JWT's creativity is a home run. Starting from Burger King's unique way of making burgers, the beef in the middle is grilled on a rack to ensure a fresh and juicy taste. McDonald's is fried on an iron plate, and it often becomes dry because it stays on the iron plate for too long."

Another prefers to change to a new advertiser.

"Why did BBDO give an unexpected new idea this year? They only played the same old tune for the past seven or eight years." The marketing director suddenly asked a question. He read all the proposal documents in the past ten years after taking office.

"Ms. Darcy Maguire, the creative director who came on behalf of JWT, jumped from BBDO. So this time the director of BBDO doesn't want to lose to his former subordinates."

"It seems that this Maguire was also specially arranged by JWT to come to our company to poach people?"

"It seems that's the case." Several subordinates looked at each other for a few times and echoed.

"Very good, it's time for us to change." The marketing director took out a few documents and threw them on the table, "Look, this is the question Mr. President asked me. I can't answer it."

Everyone took the document and looked at it. It was a sales statistics. In the past two months, in some cities on the West Coast, the sales of Burger King chain stores have suddenly dropped sharply. Especially in some suburbs of Los Angeles, the degree of business decline of some chain stores is very alarming.

"Can anyone tell me what's going on?"

Several subordinates looked at each other. This is a problem in the sales department. How can they get the answer by asking the marketing department?

"No one knows?" The marketing director saw that a secretary seemed to have something to say, "Lucy, do you know the answer?"

The secretary who was named was just here to exchange coffee, and she was a little overwhelmed.

"If you know anything, please tell us."

"My nephew recently watched a movie. He said that the American burgers in the movie were very good to customers. The waiter said something bad to the customer and was fired by the store manager. If there were no American burgers here, he would also like to try it."

"What movie is it? 'Fast and Furious Richmond High'? The effect is actually better than the TV commercials we spent a lot of money on? I suggest that everyone go to the cinema to watch this movie right away to see what secrets it has. Then we can discuss which advertising company's ideas to adopt."

"Dismiss!"

"Boss." The director's young assistant stopped him. The young man seemed to remember the name of the movie.

The assistant picked up his notebook, flipped through it for a while, turned to a page of last year's meeting minutes, and handed it to the marketing director.

"What is this?" He saw the name of a director written in the meeting minutes. It said that he took the initiative to contact Burger King and hoped to place an advertisement in his movie, but was rejected by last year's marketing director.

"This director, Ronald Lee, is the director of 'Fast and Furious Richmond High'. This movie is very popular now."

"Can we contact him?" The marketing director looked up.

"You can ask the advertising company to contact him. When he recommended himself last year, he said that he had directed a Hershey gum commercial."

"Send a signal to the BBDO and JWT teams. I want to meet Director Ronald. Who can invite him..."

The assistant indicated that he had received it and left the meeting room.

...

Ronald stayed in New York after the audience meeting. He wanted to have a good vacation.

CAA's advice to him was to continue to take a vacation. The rapid growth of the box office gave Ronald more bargaining chips for the salary and voice of the next movie every day.

So he stayed in New York, tried some new food every day, and dated Helen Slater. He completely got rid of the distress of creation and lived a very comfortable life.

Helen Slater wore a white T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and Vans black and white checkered canvas shoes today, matching Ronald with a couple's outfit.

The two came to the Museum of Modern Art in New York again to see the new modern art exhibition.

This is a cultural venue that New York is proud of. Like the New York City Ballet, the New York Philharmonic, and the New York Metropolitan Opera, it is financially supported by private donations from wealthy people. This is different from Broadway, which relies on selling tickets directly to the audience as its main source of income.

"To be honest, I still like those classic paintings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art." Ronald took Helen's hand and complained to her.

"Hehe..., why are you saying the same thing as my old-fashioned dad? This is a new art form and category." Helen began to introduce him to some fresh modern art works.

The two chatted and laughed while walking through the huge modern art museum.

"Remember this place?" Helen smiled at Ronald when she saw the Mondrian oil painting on the wall.

"Of course." Ronald looked back at Helen. It was the day of her coming-of-age dance. She slipped out of the dance scene with him and dated him for the first time.

With her long brown hair and light blue eyes, Helen looked particularly attractive against the white T-shirt.

Helen was also looking at him, and she obviously remembered the scene when they ran out to play.

Helen's smell was very comfortable, and Ronald was a little intoxicated by it.

The two got closer and closer, and their eyes met. Ronald was reluctant to take his eyes away from Helen's eyes.

"Ronald." Helen's voice became a little softer, or maybe she was closer and didn't need to maintain the original volume.

A fresh smell emanated from Helen, and Ronald was attracted by her lips, which looked like a thin layer of lipstick and shone like an apple.

Ronald turned his eyes back to Helen's blue eyes, and her big eyes also looked at Ronald.

Then it was lips again, and then back to eyes. Ronald didn't want to give up any of them. Her facial features were so beautiful, with a straight nose and delicate ears.

Ronald raised his hand and put a strand of messy hair behind Helen's left ear.

"Hmm..." Helen swallowed a mouthful of saliva, took the initiative to step forward and put her shiny lips in front of Ronald.

Ronald tilted his head slightly, gently touched Helen's lips, and then separated. He looked at the girl in his arms, his heart full of joy.

Helen's lips took the initiative to meet him, and this time the two kissed for several seconds.

The black security guard next to them looked at them with a smile.

Helen was obviously very happy too, and she hugged Ronald's arm.

Ronald also took Helen's waist, and the two continued to move forward and approached the Mondrian painting.

"The red on this modernist painting today is particularly bright and lively." Ronald felt that his whole body was full of vitality. Looking at the geometric lines and color blocks on the painting, he felt that they were dancing rhythmically.

"You are right. I just figured out Mondrian's technique recently. He used different blacks to match blue and red, so you can see his rhythm. I can now copy his colors."

"Is it you?" Ronald saw that the person who talked to him was Chen, a Chinese student who copied and studied here last time.

"If you don't mind, can you draw a copy for me?" Ronald felt that this Mondrian painting had a connection with him. Of course, he couldn't buy the painting in the museum, and it would be great if this Chinese student could copy one.

"His paintings seem simple, but in order to achieve this simplicity, it takes a lot of effort, more than twice the time it takes me to draw a portrait." Chen wanted to decline politely.

"How about this, I'll pay twice the price of your portrait." Ronald asked Chen how much it would cost.

"No, I can see that you appreciate this painting very much. I will paint it carefully, you just pay the original price." Chen was surprised. No one supported him in the American gallery. Although he had a scholarship to pay for tuition, it was expensive to study oil painting. He sometimes painted portraits for rich people in exchange for living expenses and oil painting materials.

Ronald took out a notebook, wrote down his agent's phone number, and then signed a check and handed it to Chen, "This is my New York agent Eddie's phone number. You can call him and he will give you the rest of the money when the time comes."

"They are students studying art. In fact, this kind of copy painting is very cheap. It doesn't cost so much." After leaving Mondrian's painting, Helen hugged Ronald's arm and whispered.

"I think what he said makes sense. This painting inspired me to shoot and edit movies. The replicas sold at the door don't have those details."

"I know you see the artist's difficulties and want to help him." Helen replied. She thinks Ronald has a kinder heart.

"Ding ding ding..."

The New York paging station called, and Ronald found a public phone to call back.

It was his New York agent Eddie.

"Eddie, did Chen contact you so soon?"

"What Chen? I'm looking for you because I have good news. Burger King wants to invite you to shoot a new Christmas commercial for them."

"This? My current interest is actually mainly in filming movies." Ronald wanted to decline, as TV commercials didn't mean much to him.

"Don't, pity your old partner. We can offer a high price. Burger King is very sincere and has asked your old partner in Hershey's chewing gum, Ms. Maguire, to be the creative director. This kind of commercial is very fast and will only delay you for a day or two."

"Okay, you offer them a high price, and if they agree, I'll shoot it." Ronald thought about it and agreed to Eddie. He didn't make much money on "fast pace", and if Burger King could offer a high price, he would consider it.
