Chapter 56 School Starts
Donna came back from school and was very happy to see her cousin Ronnie's girlfriend. She secretly said to Ronald, "Your girlfriend is prettier than those girls in high school."
Ronald laughed. The four of them put on formal clothes and went to the best steak house in town for a meal. Aunt Karen looked at Ronald and Antonia and smiled happily.
After dinner, Ronald sent Antonia to the hotel. Antonia went to change clothes and take a shower. Ronald was thinking about his worries alone. The words that Theresa Kate said to him in the afternoon always lingered in his mind.
"Dear, what's wrong with you? I rarely see you so worried." Antonia came out of the bathroom and hugged Ronald from behind and asked.
"Nothing, I was just thinking about the start of school." Ronald made up his mind to seize the time they spent together and not let Antonia worry about it. No one can predict the future of young people. Maybe there will be a turning point in the future?
"Ronnie, do you know? You like to scratch your ears when you lie." Antonia smiled and pointed out.
"Donnia, I..."
"No, don't say it," Antonia gently sealed Ronald's mouth with her lips, stopping him from saying anything.
Ronald got out of bed, poured a glass of water for his dear Tonya, and brought it to the bedside. Antonia took it and drank half of it, then patted the bed board to signal him to lie down.
Ronald lay on the bed, Antonia put his strong arms around her shoulders, then leaned her head and lay in Ronald's arms. The two of them didn't speak, enjoying a moment of warmth and tranquility.
Ronald looked at the girl in his arms, and felt a warm touch on his hands, indicating that this was really happening. He really loved this independent and self-reliant girl, and looking at her still slightly childish face, Ronald touched her with his hand.
The girl moved, and Ronald said, "Did I wake you up, Tonya?"
"No, I'm not asleep yet. I like you to call me Tonya."
"Then I'll call you Tonya, dear."
"Yeah."
"Tonya."
"Yeah."
After a while, Antonia remembered something and laughed, "You know, Ronnie, if you really got me that day, I would have to marry you and be the mother of our child. My faith does not allow abortion."
Ronald also laughed, remembering his eagerness that morning: "If you had given birth to a child for me, would you prepare for me every day? Prepare breakfast and pick up dry cleaning?"
"Of course, I will also make lunch and dinner for you, give birth to a child, and send him to school every day."
Ronald hugged Antonia tightly, "I know, Tonya. But I can't be so selfish. Ballet is your dream."
"I also know that being a movie director is your dream, Ronnie. Sometimes I think that if you were a stage assistant with less ambition, I would marry you and meet you every day at the ballet company."
"Then you won't fall in love with me, Tonya."
"I will, you are so cute." Antonia touched Ronald's ear. "The first time I saw you at the audition, I felt that you were interested in me."
Ronald recalled that when he saw her, she was the same person as the actor in his dream, so he was a little out of control. So he smiled and didn't say anything.
After a while, he spoke:
"When I have money, I will be the sponsor of the ballet company you are in, on the condition that you must give me a child." Ronald also began to talk about his daydream.
"Puchi, then I'm waiting for this day, Ronald Lee, the new sponsor of the New York City Ballet."
"Why, you have joined the New York City Ballet, Tonya?"
Antonia nodded, "The founder Mr. Balanchine personally selected me. Soon I will graduate early and join the New York City Ballet, starting as a dance student."
"That's great, Tonya, congratulations."
The two young people fell into the vision of the future and the fear of the unknown.
The next day, Ronald took Antonia to play around Staten Island and ate pizza in the Italian community in the north of the island. Staten Island is mainly white, and the Italian community is close to the north of the island, and the black area is further away.
The Italian pizza here is not as good as Little Italy in Manhattan, but the two still had a good time.
On Staten Island, which is isolated from Manhattan by direct land transportation, Ronald felt as if he had been cut off from the future, as if he had become a farmer and Antonia had become a farmer's wife, and the two would live here for a lifetime and have several children.
However, the holiday will eventually pass. The day when Antonia joins New York City is approaching. The two reluctantly bid farewell to the paradise and returned to Manhattan.
A few days after returning to Manhattan, Antonia joined the New York City Ballet. The training of newcomers was very intense, and Ronald sometimes did not see Tonya for several days. The two could only express their love over the phone when they were free.
Another day passed, and Ronald's own school day came. Ronald drove to Washington Square to complete the admission procedures.
New York University originally had its own campus, but it encountered a financial crisis in the early 1970s. It had no choice but to sell the campus in Bronx University Heights to the newly established City University of New York in 1973, and barely raised enough money to avoid bankruptcy.
At present, the teaching buildings of various colleges of New York University are scattered all over Manhattan. Each college has its own building, which is called: a university without walls.
Near Washington Square, New York University has a student center and school office as a place for freshmen to enroll.
Ronald parked the car and went to pay tuition.
Many freshmen were sent by their parents. The father drove the car and the mother was responsible for logistics. They sent the freshmen to school and arranged the student apartments.
Not many people came by themselves like Ronald. Even fewer people earned money to pay tuition.
Aunt Karen wanted to take a leave to send Ronald to college, but Ronald persuaded her that it would be better to attend the graduation ceremony than to send him to school. In the future, she can come to see her nephew anytime, without worrying about whether to send him to college. Besides, Ronald also has his own apartment, and does not need to live in the dormitory, so there is no place for Aunt Karen to play.
There are still a lot of information on the front desk, and Ronald picked up some of it casually.
"Student loan", Ronald put it down with a smile.
In addition, the annual interest rate has reached 30, which is very high. There are very few low-interest student loans handled by the federal government, and these commercial loans are comparable to usury.
If the lower class wants to stand out, it takes not only good luck but also continuous struggle for several generations.
Tisch School of the Arts is not in Washington Square, but not far from where Ronald lives.
Looking at the courses that can be chosen, Ronald is actually a little confused. He will only wait until the school starts to take a trial class before deciding whether to choose some courses. Of course, he will learn the film and television related courses, and then see if the others are interesting.
