Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely
#86 - Two great gifts
On the scroll were painted six lifelike cold beasts.
The first three were the Long-Tongued Snow Mane, the Bone-Spiked Frost Wolf, and the Golden-Eyed Demon Sheep, all of which the Great Xia camp had previously encountered.
The latter three included one resembling a long snake, labeled as the Cloud Mist Soaring Serpent; one of enormous size, labeled as the Golden Armor Thunder Kui; and one with fur as white as snow, labeled as the Blue Moon Spirit.
Most importantly, beneath the names were detailed records of these three cold beasts' habits, attack methods, and fatal weaknesses.
"Leader Luo, thank you!"
Xia Hong took a deep breath and respectfully bowed to Luo Ming.
The value of this scroll was arguably greater than the half of the coal and iron that Luo Ming had left behind in the camp.
Cold beasts were cunning creatures with bizarre methods and terrifying strength, making them almost as difficult to deal with as the strange.
To illustrate, so many people from the Great Stone camp hunted the Snow Mane, yet three died, and they still failed.
Later, the Golden-Eyed Demon Sheep, driven to the Great Xia camp by the strange, was finally dealt with, but only at the cost of Xu Ning losing his right eye.
Familiar cold beasts were already this difficult; unfamiliar ones were even more so.
Hunting any cold beast never before seen in the wild invariably involved sacrifice.
What Luo Ming provided wasn't just a scroll; it was the lives of the Great Xia hunting team members!
This scroll, one would imagine, was compiled by the Luo Ge camp over many years at great cost, and Xia Hong was deeply moved that Luo Ming was willing to give it to him.
"Don't rush to thank me; take a look at the second one!"
Xia Hong nodded and opened the second scroll. After seeing its contents, a hint of joy reappeared on his face.
It was a map—a map of the area east of Red Maple Ridge.
The map was rudimentary, with only a few special markings. Apparently worried that Xia Hong wouldn't understand, Luo Ming leaned forward and pointed to the map, explaining:
"The center of the map is the valley where the camp is located.
East of the valley, behind these two high mountains, we don't know what's there. We've never been up these mountains, but occasionally we hear loud noises during the day. There should be strong cold beasts on the mountains, and their species are unknown.
To the west is Red Maple Ridge. In recent years, the Luo Ge camp's exploration of Red Maple Ridge has only reached a depth of one kilometer. The latter three cold beasts on the first scroll are mostly within a range of five hundred to one thousand meters.
To the south, two kilometers past the Great Xia Slope, there's a frozen river. We haven't seen any cold beast activity around that river, so it should be very dangerous, and people should avoid it.
To the north is a patch of arrow bamboo forest. There's a mountain path on the west side of the arrow bamboo forest where many cold beasts gather. However, during the ice fruit tree fruiting season, for three to five days, the cold beasts will enter the arrow bamboo forest, whether to find food or for some other purpose. During this time, people can risk quickly crossing it.
Crossing this mountain path leads to a place called Pingxi Plain, where there's a giant camp called Honeycomb, which is my destination."
At this point, Luo Ming finally answered Xia Hong's question.
Xia Hong stared at the map, speechless for a long time.
The two things Luo Ming left him before leaving were truly more precious than the last.
"Leader Luo, I really don't know how to thank you!"
Luo Ming waved his hand and smiled wryly, a hint of loneliness on his face:
"In his early years, when my father, Luo Feng, was the leader, he had great ambitions. In addition to leading hunting parties, he often took people to explore and survey the surrounding areas, creating this map.
Originally, according to his idea, this map would be continuously improved by successors until the entire area around Red Maple Ridge was explored.
Unfortunately, after I took over as leader, my abilities were limited, and the map hasn't been updated. Now that I'm leaving, I'll leave the map to you."
The detailed information on six cold beasts and a map of three square miles east of Red Maple Ridge—Xia Hong didn't need to ask to know the great cost the Luo Ge camp had paid for these two items.
He could glimpse a part of it from the loneliness on Luo Ming's face.
Perhaps Luo Ming had also had the idea of inheriting Luo Feng's grand ambitions in his early years.
However, the increasingly difficult situation of the camp and the successive setbacks,
coupled with the matter of the wooden puppet strange, was the last straw that broke the camel's back.
Luo Ming finally gave up on this idea. Now that he handed these two items to him, it was as if he was entrusting the camp and his father's legacy to him.
Seeing the loneliness in Luo Ming's eyes, a hint of hesitation flashed across Xia Hong's face.
He was wondering whether to persuade Luo Ming to stay.
Luo Ming saw through Xia Hong's thoughts at a glance and shook his head with a light smile:
"Brother Xia Hong, there's no need to say more. I know you have the ability, so I'm willing to entrust these things to you. If it weren't for Cheng'er, I wouldn't have abandoned these people and left!"
Xia Hong nodded lightly upon hearing this, a look of relief on his face.
Luo Ming was indeed determined to leave, and truly asking him to stay might not be a good thing for the current camp.
The newest and most complete novels are at Liu 9 Shu Ba, first published!
"Alright, the camp has just been relocated, and you still have many things to busy yourself with. I'll take my leave now. The days of the ice fruit tree fruiting are in the next few days, and I have to hurry over and keep an eye on it. If I miss it, I'll have to wait four months."
After Luo Ming finished speaking, he decisively turned around and led Shang Ping, the three Earth-Digging Realm cultivators, the five Wood-Felling Realm cultivators, and their respective families into Red Maple Ridge under the cover of night, seemingly planning to take the route through Red Maple Ridge to the arrow bamboo forest to the north.
Li Baihe, one of the three Earth-Digging Realm cultivators carrying a bow, frequently looked back, perhaps wanting to take a few more glances at the camp valley.
Xia Hong watched the group leave until they were out of sight, then took a deep breath, put the two scrolls into his arms, turned around, and walked back to the camp.
In the camp's wooden house, the lively discussion continued.
What everyone was discussing the most was nothing more than the rules Xia Chuan had just mentioned, whether they could truly be implemented and enforced.
Xia Hong ignored everyone's discussion, walked back to the wooden house, and first sought out Huang Yong and Hong Gang.
"Leader!"
Seeing Xia Hong approach, the two quickly got up to greet him. Both camps had already agreed to merge into Great Xia, so their address to Xia Hong naturally dropped his surname.
"You two, time is of the essence. Huang Zhao's camp is close by, so tomorrow night I'll take people over and have the people from Huang Zhao's camp move over first. The night after tomorrow, Da Chuan will move over. Let's try to resolve this in two days, a quick battle to avoid complications."
"Yes, Leader, we'll go back and prepare now!"
Xia Hong nodded. Before the two could leave, he walked to the middle of the wooden house, looked around, and without avoiding anyone, directly placed all the buildings from the system.
Iron-Smelting Furnace, Medicine-Brewing Pot, Wooden Dummy, and Sharpening Stone—the four buildings appeared out of thin air in the middle of the wooden house. The people from the original Great Xia camp were naturally used to it.
However, the people from the Luo Ge camp were seeing it for the first time, and they all gathered around, their expressions full of astonishment.
"Leader, all the remaining items from the Luo Ge camp have been inventoried. There are a total of 3,000 catties of iron ore, 4,500 catties of coal stone, seventeen Gold-Freezing Trees, and over six hundred Vermillion Frost Trees. There are also four sabers and nine bows, all in the hands of those fifteen people from the original Luo Ge camp. In addition to these, there are over twenty iron tools, all of which have been categorized. Come take a look."
Ignoring the astonished crowd beside him, Xia Hong directly followed Yuan Cheng behind him and walked to the side of the wooden house where the tools were stored.
