Unfortunately, because the British asked for too high a price, the plan was eventually terminated.

"At the same time, we are constantly overcoming technical difficulties. Now, we have our own ship-to-air missiles. These missiles have been equipped on a frigate and have completed the test." General Pan said to Muhammad as he walked.

As early as 1965, the Chinese Navy planned to develop the 053K air defense frigate based on the 65-type ship. Then, it decided to convert the Hongqi 61 surface-to-air missile under development into a ship-to-air missile, with a sea Hongqi 61 ship-to-air missile launcher at the bow and stern, as well as ZL-1 illumination radar, ZH-I director and fire control equipment. In addition to the main and secondary guns and anti-submarine configuration, after the successful development, the 053K dedicated to air defense missions and the 051 Luda class dedicated to anti-ship missions will constitute the backbone of the navy's power.

The idea was very good at that time, but the reality was too cruel. Due to the ten-year catastrophe, the progress was greatly slowed down. It was not completed until 1975. The HQ-61 began to be tested and kept stumbling. It was not until 1986 that it was finalized.

Twenty years have passed. The original design was still advanced, but now it is completely outdated. At this time, the "Standard" series, "Sea Dart" series and SA-N-6 series of air defense missiles with regional air defense capabilities of the Western navies and the Soviet Navy have been in service and used in actual combat. The HQ-61 was already on the verge of being outdated when it was developed. For example, it does not have the ability to intercept ultra-low-altitude anti-ship missiles at all, and the wings cannot be folded. The current twin-mounted launcher does not look huge. When it is equipped with the Jiangwei class, it uses a six-mounted launch tube, which is so huge that when foreigners first discovered it, they thought it was a big guy.

The HQ-61 is considered to be finalized, but it cannot be used as an air defense missile for advanced destroyers. Therefore, continuing to import it from the outside is the best choice.
