#908 - ally
The Second World, Mecer City.
The vast ocean rippled under the sunlight, and ancient, strangely shaped sailboats wandered across the blue sky.
This was the third month after humanity launched the War of Nations. The aftermath of the War of Nations had gradually dissipated, but the topic of humanity, this newly emerged 'noble' race, had only just begun.
The Second World had not seen a new noble race for a very long time…
Most of the races here were victors left over from the Great Chaos. They plundered vast amounts of resources and technology during the chaos, allowing them to enjoy the spoils of war with peace of mind. However, as time passed, the past fervor gradually cooled, and they became lost in a life of 'luxury and extravagance'.
The Second World was the place with the least pressure because it had five lower worlds to support it. Every civilization here was like a supreme god to the lower worlds. They didn't have to worry about resources, and every newborn could receive the best care and nurturing. More enjoyment awaited them as they grew, indulging in a life of pleasure and seeking stimulation until the end of their days.
Unfortunately, their period of enjoying the spoils of war was about to end…
With the addition of humans and more alien races, the Second World had gradually lost its peaceful color. Rumors of the Great Destruction and the desires of new races made the Second World increasingly dangerous, like volcanoes lurking beneath the void. Many established noble races had already taken countermeasures. They were hostile to the new races, repelling and restricting their development in order to maintain their own advantages.
Don't underestimate the power of the established noble races. These old monsters, who had lived for who knows how many years, were still incredibly powerful due to their ancient foundations, even after years of indulging in pleasure. At least, that was the case for the new races.
The fact that no new noble race had emerged in nearly a thousand years was enough to illustrate their advantage.
But all of this was shattered recently.
Humanity's success was like a bomb that detonated the entire Second World. The established noble races were shocked by their potential and spirit of sacrifice, while the new races were ecstatic because humanity had proven to them through action that the格局(gé jú, pattern/structure) of the Second World could be changed. They all wondered, if humans could do it, why couldn't they?
It was like a group of travelers groping in the vast darkness suddenly seeing a torch illuminating the way forward.
The impact was unimaginable…
In just three months, which was merely a time for humanity to lick its wounds, the entire Second World had been stirred up.
One new race after another emerged from Vancer Celte, participating in tasks and explorations with a spirit a hundred times greater than usual. They were working hard to integrate into the Second World and adapt to it until they identified a goal. This process was exactly the same as what humanity had done. They were learning and striving to achieve it.
These actions undoubtedly caused unease among the established noble races. The atmosphere in the Second World became even more tense. Twelve established civilizations had already announced the closure of their Void Cities, refusing to fulfill the public passage agreement. They reduced the number of tasks, strictly reviewed task approvals, and either expelled or protected the task targets within their territory.
In simple terms, they didn't want any new race members to enter their territory, thereby building a protective wall.
But in the face of the new races' aggressive momentum, would such a 'wall' really be effective?
The seawater rippled, slapping against the礁石(jiāo shí, reef/rock) with a splashing sound.
An elegant 'octopus' emerged from the water, using a tentacle to pick up a wine glass from the reef. A burly man was already there, drinking. He was covered in横肉(héng ròu, excessive fat), holding a wine bottle in one hand and a cigar in the other, exuding an indescribable boldness and unrestraint.
The 'octopus' carefully dripped a few drops of wine into its口器(kǒu qì, mouthpart). Then, it exhaled with satisfaction. "Wonderful… this飘飘然(piāo piāo rán, light and elated) feeling is something that Fire Sea Blue cannot provide. You humans are truly creatures who know how to enjoy life."
"Then why don't you drink more?" The burly man laughed heartily, gulping down half the bottle of wine, then said with a cigar in his mouth.
"Drinking too much will make me vomit," the octopus replied honestly. "Alcohol is highly toxic to me. Although I can be immune to it, I can't experience its benefits. So, I can only drink a little. A few drops are just right, a mouthful is too much."
"Ha… you guys… are really boring. So, what do you usually do underwater?"
"Play with small insects, crawl through a few tunnels, make a few sand pits. They are all very interesting things." The octopus's face蠕动(rú dòng, wriggled) slightly, revealing what seemed to be a smiling expression. Although the things it mentioned were all boring, its serious appearance made people feel that it really found them interesting.
The隔阂(gé hé, estrangement/barrier) between racial civilizations is inherently vastly different.
The burly man didn't laugh at it. He just looked up and laughed. Then, he drank the wine in the bottle in one gulp and threw the bottle into the sea.
"It's getting late, I have to go back. Remember what you promised me."
"I remember," the octopus replied solemnly. "But you know this is not easy. You humans have been making too much noise recently. Seizing a kingdom means you can open a channel and greatly increase your strength. This is a threat to the civilizations of the entire Second World. Many civilizations have already proposed boycotting you. At this time, asking us to form an alliance, have you considered our feelings?"
"It's all mutually beneficial," the burly man grinned. "Look, you guys are used to staying underwater anyway. You don't like to move around. What's wrong with having us as an ally? We can provide you with thoughtful service and even military protection. You only need to provide nominal support. This kind of deal is a great bargain."
The most ⊥ new ⊥ small ⊥ said ⊥ in ⊥ six ⊥ 9 ⊥⊥ book ⊥⊥ bar ⊥⊥ first ⊥ hair!
"That's what you say," the octopus seemed not to understand jokes and still thought seriously. "But why do I always feel that something is wrong?"
"You're thinking too much. Maybe the pressure underwater is hindering your brain function," the burly man waved his hand豪气(háo qì, boldly/heroically). "Don't worry, humans never坑(kēng, to trick/trap) teammates. You don't have to pay anything, even if we suffer, it's our business."
"Then it's settled," the octopus nodded. "As for the other races, I will say hello to them, but I don't care whether they are willing or not."
"Of course," the burly man laughed, nodded to the octopus, and turned to fly into the sky.
Watching his burly figure, the octopus stretched a few tentacles out of the water, holding its head in a very human-like thinking motion. Its eyes darted around. "Searching for allies and转移压力(zhuǎn yí yā lì, transfer pressure) immediately after completing the war, humans are indeed a可怕(kě pà, terrifying) race. Their侵略性(qīn lüè xìng, aggressiveness) has been confirmed undoubtedly, but they seem to know more about协作(xié zuò, collaboration) and妥协(tuǒ xié, compromise) than the past Crodir. The danger is also higher."
"The Great Destruction is coming… Should I agree to them?"
"This question is really a headache!!"
"嗝(gé, hiccup)… Why is my head so dizzy… Could it be that I drank too much wine just now…"
"Humans are really bad, they even use alcohol to麻醉(má zuì, anaesthetize) me, how annoying."
"But I still want to drink…"(To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation..)
