#889 - New enemies!
Rumbling, explosions... beams like forests, bullets like rain.
Huge machines collapsed around them, fortresses burned in the void. The massive Sajest roared in strange electronic voices, dying amidst explosions and rumbles. Human ships charged through the enemy, constantly spewing deadly fire while also receiving retaliatory fire.
A battleship's flank armor was pierced, spewing flames a thousand meters long. Massive amounts of white mist and electrical arcs poured from the breach, with glimpses of flying bodies. A fragment with a diameter of a hundred meters sheared off a nearby turret, leaving a clean cut as if sliced by a knife.
The battleship staggered, trying to return to its position, but it couldn't. Wounded, it became a massive magnet on the battlefield, attracting more fire and Sajest attacks. In the sky, the Sajest mobile fortress concentrated more beams on it. Then it exploded, like a wounded behemoth, breaking in half after an unwilling roar.
Nearly ten thousand clones and hundreds of natural humans inside the ship had no escape, all dying in the flames and explosions.
“Drip drip goo drip drip goo goo!”
Amidst the flames of war, a Sajest desperately fled. But before it could run a few steps, it froze. A bright line appeared at its waist, and its upper half slid off diagonally, revealing the blood pupils behind.
“Never leave your back to the enemy, but you won't learn this lesson.” Blood Pupil stepped on the Sajest's remains and lit a cigar.
Behind him was a complete mercenary squad and the backdrop of a massive fortress.
The fortress was already burning, flames erupting from every crack and hole. Some Sajest remains hung on the fortress's spikes, swaying with the shockwaves.
“Progress is smooth.” Brute's voice came from behind Blood Pupil. “This is the fifth fortress. With three more, we can approach the space gate!”
“I remember you said there were seven fortresses. When did it become eight?” Blood Pupil asked without turning his head, his face still expressionless.
“Plans always change.” Brute smiled wryly, pointing to the data on the intelligence device. “Who knew the Sajest would suddenly add a fortress? And it even condensed sub-rules. We can't get past the space gate if we don't take care of it because its shield is invincible!”
“There's no such thing as invincible in this universe!” Blood Pupil said with some dissatisfaction. How could an elite like Brute make such a mistake? If the universe had invincible defenses, what would be the point of space warriors?
“But that's the truth.” Brute didn't seem to notice Blood Pupil's suspicion and continued to speak on his own. “The Sajest are a very powerful civilization. By powerful, I don't mean their combat strength, but their ability to accomplish seemingly impossible miracles. Well, like the space gate we need to deal with. It seems like it's blocking us, and it is blocking us. But we just can't destroy it.”
“Because the Sajest used a strange conduction technology to divide its spatial projection into eight parts, projecting them onto eight fortresses. Unless we can destroy all these fortresses, we can't break through the space gate's shield.”
At this point, Brute shrugged. “Don't ask me how they did it. Maybe this is top-level technology from the Second World.”
“So we have to destroy all the fortresses?” Blood Pupil picked up his train of thought, his brow furrowing.
This was a bit troublesome. Although seven and eight didn't sound like much of a difference, the problem was that the Sajest fortresses couldn't be destroyed casually. To destroy a fortress, one had to wait for other leaders to capture the sub-rule generator affecting it. It was like a series of interconnected puzzles that had to be solved to successfully destroy the fortress.
But the problem was that, so far, Blood Pupil had only heard Bass arrange attack missions for seven sub-rule generators, not the eighth!
“You noticed…” Just then, Brute turned his gaze over, revealing a wry smile to Blood Pupil.
“So, we have to take care of that eighth generator ourselves.”
“…………” Blood Pupil was silent. He finally felt a sense of pressure. The previous smooth progress didn't mean he could continue smoothly. The real test was at the end.
Discovering the eighth sub-rule generator and destroying the fortress immediately would probably be several times more difficult than expected. The most worrying thing was the uncertainty.
Because no one knew where the eighth generator was.
“Never mind, let's take care of the ones in front first.” After thinking for a while, Blood Pupil made a decision. “As for the eighth fortress, I'll go find the generator, and you'll be responsible for destroying it.”
“That's the only way.” Brute nodded and then issued orders.
The group moved again, flying towards the next fortress, surrounded by the bright and dark flames of explosions and the remains of Sajest people passing by in mid-air.
While flying, Blood Pupil said to Brute.
“Don't you think it's strange? If there are eight fortresses, why wasn't it shown in the previous intelligence? Why would such a low-level mistake happen?”
“I've thought about it. There's one possibility.” Brute's face was uncertain, but his voice came faintly. “That is, the eighth fortress doesn't belong to the Sajest. As for where it comes from…”
The most ⊥ new ⊥ small ⊥ say ⊥ is ⊥ in ⊥ six ⊥ 9 ⊥⊥ book ⊥⊥ bar ⊥⊥ first ⊥ hair!
Blood Pupil's eyes flashed, and he met Brute's gaze. “Stell Demon Clan!”
“Those guys. Sure enough, they are here!”
“Ha, is it too late to find us now?”
Just as the two made their judgment, a wretched voice suddenly rang in everyone's minds. Wasn't it the same guy Blood Pupil and Brute had seen in the bar? Then, before everyone could react, a flash of light suddenly swept past, suddenly taking away a mercenary.
Although the mercenary had already made a defense, he was still blasted far away by this light. Only then did the humans see that it was not a light at all? It was clearly an ancient javelin! It was just because the speed was too fast that it gave people the feeling of a light.
It stabbed fiercely into the mercenary's chest, penetrated the front armor, and showed its head from the mercenary's back.
The mercenary was still maintaining his defensive posture, but his eyes showed an unbelievable look. He couldn't imagine why this javelin could still penetrate him and take his life when he had clearly made a defense.
In the flames of the explosion, his face suddenly turned pale, and then suddenly turned flushed.
Then, in everyone's eyes, he swelled up and exploded into pieces…(To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation..)
