Colonial Suit

#790 - Residents of the Throne

This was a very peculiar city. Its form in subspace was a perfect sphere.

A transparent shield formed the outer membrane of the sphere, and then, with the center of the sphere as the boundary, a visible partition appeared. The partition formed the ground, and the city was built on this partition, extending upwards and downwards.

The advantage of this layout was that it maximized the use of space. The disadvantage was the lack of a sense of direction. Fortunately, with artificial gravity, this difference was easily overlooked. The inner membrane of the sphere had a mysterious celestial control device, creating a familiar cycle of sun, moon, stars, day, and night within the sphere, thus forming a space suitable for human habitation.

When the upper half of the city entered daytime, the lower half was in darkness.

Blood瞳 had no doubt that this sphere shielded the repulsive force of subspace rules, thus carving out a habitat exclusively for humans. However, due to the unpredictable nature of subspace, its overall position could not be anchored.

In other words, no one could determine its exact coordinates, thus directly penetrating it from the outside.

The attack shuttle began to vibrate violently, and the outer shield rapidly disintegrated under the repulsive force of subspace. Soon, it reached the armor layer. Just then, a golden light suddenly shot out from the city, connecting and enveloping the attack shuttle. Then, all the repulsive force disappeared without a trace.

Under the guidance of the golden light, the attack shuttle approached the city and entered the upper spaceport.

From this angle, it could be seen that it was just dawn in the city, and countless figures were waking up from their dreams, starting their day's work. The streets were already filled with a constant stream of traffic. Flying cars shuttled through the sky, whizzing past.

Welcoming Blood瞳 and the others was an ordinary person, who appeared to be a service worker at the spaceport.

“Lord Gance, welcome to headquarters. This is Spaceport One, and Jerifin is at your service. The Council is still in slumber. Councilor Sal Jones has requested that you stay temporarily at Residence Area 2, S119. Someone will pick you up soon.”

“Understood,” Gance replied readily, then gestured to Blood瞳 to follow.

He wasn't visiting headquarters for the first time, so he could be considered half a host here.

Blood瞳 nodded, leading Qing Yue and Mei Ding behind him.

Strangely enough, despite being the pinnacle of human civilization, the technology here was far less advanced than that of the Third World, including the buildings, civilian facilities, and even the spaceships. Many were still in the style of the Fifth World, with few even from the Fourth World. Only the countless mysterious lines spread across the sky indicated to everyone that this was no ordinary realm.

“This is because normal technology is difficult to use effectively in subspace and can cause unpredictable results,” Gance explained, seemingly knowing what Blood瞳 was thinking. “The sky you see is constructed by the two Sovereigns. But we can't let the Sovereigns do everything, can we? So in daily life, we try to use some ancient facilities that won't trigger the repulsive force of subspace to reduce consumption.”

As he spoke, Gance opened the door of a flying car that had been parked nearby. “Please, we still have a distance to travel. I remind you, don't use your abilities easily here, and don't fight easily, or you'll be in trouble.”

“Got it,” Blood瞳 didn't ask what kind of trouble, but he could imagine some.

Being able to penetrate subspace was one thing, but being able to reside in subspace was another. There must be many taboos in this city that he couldn't even begin to comprehend.

The journey to their lodging was a bit far. Along the way, Blood瞳 leaned against the window, admiring the scenery.

He saw many 'ancient' buildings and lifestyles, and a primitive pastoral mode. This was a strange 'farm' that used overlapping, layered planting methods. Hundreds or thousands of 'artificial plots' were stacked very high. People were working on each layer of the plot, simply tilling the soil and sowing seeds, then watering and fertilizing, and they could harvest an hour later. It was amazingly fast, and the yield was even more astonishing.

“Affected by the attenuation of subspace, crops here mature quickly, so planting is easy. Just harvest before they rot,” Gance explained. “We use some of our unique technologies here, allowing us to produce enough grain to supply the entire city with only a little land. Of course, the fertilizer and nutrients must be sufficient.”

“Animal husbandry is also the same. For most livestock, time is unjust here. One minute for us may be a day, a month, or even a year for them.”

“Why does this happen?”

“One is because of the influence of subspace, and the other is because it's the Sovereign's creation,” Gance replied. “Don't you understand? For everything here, the Sovereign is God. He can change the ratio of time and space, and he can also change many things we can't imagine. What does it matter if crops mature quickly? If they want to, they can even keep us young forever, or make us die of old age in the next moment.”

“Everything is a rule, but not of the normal space, but of subspace.”

“Subspace rules!?” Blood瞳's pupils suddenly contracted.

As everyone knows, the evolution of a universe warrior is the understanding and utilization of rules. But everything happens in normal space, that is, within the scope of the normal universe. This has become common sense for many universe warriors, and it is the foundation of their continuous evolution and continuous efforts.

However, why is it that at the Sovereign's stage, he has mastered the rules of subspace instead?

Could it be that the evolutionary limit of the normal universe is the stellar level?

Blood瞳 thought silently, but couldn't figure it out no matter what. At this time, he discovered something else. Most of the people living in this city were actually ordinary people. There were surprisingly few universe warriors.

“Why is this?”

“They are descendants of universe warriors,” Gance replied. “You wouldn't think that only the strong are qualified to set foot on this land, would you?”

“In fact, our human growth is too late. Even with endless sacrifices and dedication, we lack the foundation compared to the ancient cosmic nobles. Being able to get to where we are today is paved with the blood and bones of countless predecessors. So, in order to commend their achievements, all the descendants of universe warriors who have made contributions will be brought here, given the best education and resources, and allowed to grow rapidly.”

“We don't have many high-end combat forces, and most of them have been sent out. So naturally, they are left here.”

“This is the responsibility and obligation of the Mercenary Headquarters. If one day, you also die in battle during a mission, your descendants will also be brought here and become residents of the God Seat.”

Speaking of this, Gance quietly looked into Blood瞳's eyes.

“Would you be willing?”

“Me?”

Blood瞳 withdrew his gaze, then took out a cigar from his pocket and lit it.

“Maybe.”
