Colonial Suit

#788 - The New Queen

The Domain of Souls, Planet Vexxelkerk.

The homeworld of the Mutant civilization.

On the vast underground plains, the groves of the Gene-Source Trees slowly unfurled, exhaling green mists. Capsule-like fruits swayed on the vines, giving a sense of bountiful beauty. Within the fruits, tiny, nascent Strong-Genes slumbered, growing, awaiting the day of their awakening.

The planet's underground energy was rapidly being converted into the sustenance needed by the Strong-Genes, expanding and nourishing the entire kingdom. The Mutants had already transformed from primitive mutation and reproduction to self-proliferation.

But today, on this most glorious plain of the kingdom, the Gene-Source Trees were not the main attraction. Everyone stood beneath the trees, gazing at the enormous spiral spire in the distance.

Their new Empress was about to be born…

The spiral spire towered high, emanating a thick scent of blood. This scent was extremely stimulating to ordinary people, but at this moment, it felt warm and familiar to all Mutants. It was the aura of the Blood Pool, the sacred ground that nurtured them.

Inside the spire, Sarah was walking towards the throne. Seven years had transformed her from a simple little girl into a beautiful young woman. She wore a white robe, walking barefoot on the carpet. With each step, the carpet behind her ignited, as if she were guiding the flames.

Sarah's expression was calm. Seven years had brought growth not only to her body but also to her mind. Those who knew her well understood that this girl, brought out of X35 by Lier, never displayed overly intense emotions. She was like a deep, unfathomable pool, concealing herself beneath the depths. From the moment she came into contact with the Mutant Kingdom seven years ago, no matter how difficult the task, she would always easily find a solution and implement it effectively.

Difficulties were not obstacles to her, but merely small pebbles. So gradually, she had gained the recognition of most Mutants, becoming a special existence in the kingdom. Even the great Sages of the kingdom would seek her opinion on many matters.

Now, she was about to ascend the stage of the ruler.

Not far ahead of her was a high and mighty throne, with several figures standing silently on either side. They were mostly the great Sages who maintained the kingdom's operations, but two were particularly special. They were not Sages, yet they stood silently beside the throne. One was a gaunt young man, and the other was an indifferent teenager.

Sarah stopped and nodded slightly to the young man.

"Lord Murdoch, you've come as well."

"Today is your coronation day. Even if I didn't approve of you before, I must obey the will of our Lord," Murdoch replied with a smile, but his face was still somewhat pale. "In a few minutes, you will become the Empress of the Mutants. What are your thoughts?"

"There is only one Empress of the Mutants. But that is not me," Sarah replied, her expression as calm as water. "I am merely taking charge and looking after this kingdom in her absence. So Lord Murdoch doesn't need to worry that I will change anything, nor that I will do anything beyond control."

"You know about Meria?" Murdoch's eyes flashed. "Then what do you think of her?"

"A girl whose mind has been deluded by ambition," Sarah replied. "Having ambition is not terrible, what's terrible is not having the ability to match that ambition, and even more so, not having the will to match that ambition."

"Meria is too weak. Pathetically weak."

"Well said," Murdoch nodded, then asked again, "Then what would you do if you were her?"

"Obey," Sarah met Murdoch's gaze, speaking earnestly. "And then let ambition bloom within the framework. Unrestrained ambition is a disaster, while restrained ambition is a driving force. Ambition will give us strength, and it will also give us a goal."

"Not bad," Murdoch's eyes flashed, admiring Sarah even more. But he still uttered the final question.

"If the framework can no longer restrain ambition, then what would you do?"

"Lord Murdoch, are you implying that I will usurp Lier's throne?" Sarah said softly, without the slightest hint of fear, answering directly.

"That requires two conditions. First, my value to this civilization must exceed that of Her Majesty Lier. Second, my value within the scope of the universe must exceed that of Her Majesty Lier."

At this point, a hint of mockery flashed in Sarah's eyes. She asked Murdoch, "Her Majesty Lier's power and will, I believe you know better than I do. If I could surpass her, why would I be here listening to your questioning? As an Empress, if she can be questioned by her subordinates, how can she govern this country?"

"Count Murdoch, you have overstepped your authority."

"Yes," Murdoch lowered his head. "I apologize."

"I accept your apology," Sarah said, then looked at Murdoch. "Then you, powerful Count, are you willing to pledge allegiance to me?"

"After you ascend the throne," Murdoch answered without hesitation.

Sarah nodded, then turned her gaze to the second special figure. It was a teenager. Strangely, Sarah had never seen him before. One must know that anyone who could stand beside the throne at this moment must be a heavyweight figure in the kingdom. But why did she have no memory of him?

The teenager was very indifferent, as cold as a piece of ice. Seeming to notice Sarah's gaze, he also turned his head and revealed a cold smile to Sarah. "If you betray Her Majesty, I will kill you."

He said suddenly, his voice hoarse like the friction of metal.

Sarah instantly turned cold, her expression changing slightly. "Prince Sarek? You… how could you become like this?"

"My form is none of your concern," Sarek replied indifferently, turning his gaze to the other side, but after a while, he said in a low voice.

"Work hard, little Sarah. From today onwards, the citizens of Her Majesty Lier will have to rely on you for protection."

"Then, are you willing to help me?" Sarah asked immediately, her eyes fixed on Sarek.

"Me?" Sarek lowered his head, so that no one could see his expression.

"I am a warrior…"

"Her Majesty Lier's warrior."

He didn't continue speaking, but Sarah understood his meaning. "You won't pledge allegiance to me, will you?"

"In your heart, there is only one Empress, and that is Her Majesty Lier. So even if I obtain the throne, I cannot make you submit. Is that right?"

"…………" Sarek didn't answer, but he acquiesced to Sarah's words.

Little Sarah nodded and ascended the throne without looking at Sarek again. After turning around, a delicate crown was placed on her head. At the same time, Maria's enormous phantom appeared behind the throne, and countless illusory tentacles directly pierced into Sarah's body.

In an instant, Sarah seemed to have arrived in a new world, as if on high clouds, looking down upon this kingdom, this civilization.

Countless Mutants knelt on one knee on the plain, calling out her name.

A voice echoed in her mind. "Sarah, human, Empress candidate. Are you willing to become the new Empress? Are you willing to abandon your human identity and accept the authority of the Mutants? Are you willing to swear that from now on, you will prioritize the Mutant civilization above all else, lead the entire civilization, and protect the entire civilization?"

"If no, you will retain your genes and physical characteristics. If yes, you will assume the duties and glands of the Empress."

"But from now on, you will also lose your human identity."

Sarah silently closed her eyes, and the scene of her brother's death appeared in her mind, and tears flowed unconsciously.

"Yes."

She answered in this way, and then grasped the scepter that floated beside her…

I am Sarah, the new Empress. (To be continued.)q
