Colonial Suit
#58 - wake up
Darkness, endless darkness...
Bloodshot Eyes didn't know how long he had been unconscious. He only felt enveloped by endless darkness, as if passing through a bottomless tunnel, and once again arrived at the battlefield in his dream.
This was the third time he had come to this battlefield. But to his surprise, the armor on his body had changed. It no longer looked tattered, but had become smooth and sleek. The outer shell of the armor was of an unknown material, but it was very light and breathable. Purple-black tendons could be seen at the joints. Bloodshot Eyes tried to move it and immediately felt the surging power from these tendons.
He was now on a desolate planet, facing a dry land. Countless sharp, strange rocks protruded from the land, like swords inserted into the air. The air smelled salty, and a gust of wind stirred up large clouds of dust.
Here... is this another battlefield?
Bloodshot Eyes wondered, looking around with some doubt. Everything was quiet, and there was only the sound of howling wind between heaven and earth. There were none of the enemies he had seen in his previous two visits, rushing forward one after another. He was like the only life on this planet, standing alone on the battlefield.
However, this situation only lasted for a few minutes. Just as Bloodshot Eyes took a few steps forward, intending to enter the strange rock formations to investigate, countless enemies appeared from the rock formations, from underground, and even from the sky, launching a frenzied attack on Bloodshot Eyes.
They were all mutants, riding on various mutated beasts. Unlike the mutants Bloodshot Eyes had seen before, each of them had a tendency for combat enhancement. Not only were they extremely fast, but they had also mutated protective armor plates for combat. Even if a colony's light saber struck them, it would only damage the surface. Moreover, their weapons were also mutated, of all types. The most common were bone spurs and brute force types.
But the biggest difference this time was the appearance of powerful ranged units among the enemies.
These were mutants with extremely swollen shoulders. They were very thin and slow, but their shoulders were bulging like balls, covered with thick carapaces, looking like two giant bowling balls. During combat, they could expand from the middle and launch countless sharp spikes. These spikes were very powerful. Bloodshot Eyes was accidentally hit in the arm, and the colony's armor was instantly pierced, blasting a deep pit with a diameter of twenty centimeters.
This was the most brutal battle Bloodshot Eyes had encountered since entering the dream battlefield. The strength of the two sides was extremely uneven, and the numbers were too different. Bloodshot Eyes was caught in a bitter fight with just one encounter. His strongest weapon was only the colony's light saber, which did negligible damage to the mutants. However, the mutants' attacks could easily penetrate his defense, forcing him to rely on agility and instinct to dodge. Fortunately, these mutants were not fast, which allowed Bloodshot Eyes to survive for a while longer.
He shuttled back and forth through the strange rock formations, using the cover of the rocks to maneuver against the mutants. He was drenched in sweat in just a few minutes, and his body was covered with wounds of all sizes.
Damn it, what kind of enemies are these guys?
Bloodshot Eyes thought anxiously as he dodged clumsily. His condition was terrible. A large number of wounds were bleeding and showing signs of poisoning. Dazed, he dodged a bone spur extending from the side and slashed at the opponent's neck. But when he pulled out the knife, he felt a stagnation in his forearm. The colony's light saber was stuck in the opponent's bone.
Bad!
Bloodshot Eyes' expression changed suddenly. Just as he was about to break his arm, a spike shot from a distance, accurately hitting his chest. A burst of blood spurted out, and Bloodshot Eyes immediately felt all the strength leave him, collapsing softly to the ground. Immediately afterward, countless mutants surged from all directions, instantly engulfing him.
Feeling himself being devoured bit by bit by the mutants, Bloodshot Eyes' gaze gradually涣散...
Am I... going to die?
"Attention, the target's heartbeat is weakening, prepare adrenaline!"
"Adrenaline injected, target's heartbeat restored."
"Damn it, he has too many wounds. Was he hit head-on by a sonic weapon? I need more blood plasma!"
"What? No match for his blood type? What are you doing? I told you to have the blood bank fully prepared. How dare you let this oversight happen, are you looking to die?"
"Okay. Let's try another way. Prepare bone marrow stimulant number three, now we have to rely on his own efforts. This kid has a strong vitality, he shouldn't die, right?"
"Damn it, his bones are full of cracks. Do you want me to fix them one by one? That's going to cost a lot."
"Yes, yes. I know. I'll fix it. Damn, this is going to be troublesome again. My vacation..."
"Ha, this guy's muscles are really strong. They weren't completely torn apart. I say, buddy, maybe we can get off work early today. As long as his organs are as strong as these muscles."
"Wait, what's this? Why does the scan show a lump in his head? Are you telling me it's a tumor? Damn it, I can't fix that area."
"Okay, I understand. Just leave it there. Since he didn't die before, he won't this time either. Hopefully, he's used to the neighbor in his head."
"Ha. All done. Now it's time for the healing process. Who's on duty in the repair room? What? It's that drunkard. Too bad, it looks like we're going to be delayed again today. He's never cleaned the repair nest on time. Okay, send our little guy over there now. The life support system is here, don't worry, his vitality is strong, he won't die."
The noisy voices echoed in Bloodshot Eyes' consciousness, infinitely amplified, finally pulling him out of the dream. He struggled to open his eyes, but he couldn't see anything clearly. The whole world seemed to be shrouded in a fog. He opened his mouth, but found that he couldn't make any sound at all, like a mute.
In the haze, it seemed that countless people were spinning around him, constantly saying something. These voices annoyed Bloodshot Eyes. But his consciousness seemed to be in a quagmire, slow and turbid, making it difficult to form a complete thought.
Soon, he felt himself being placed in a container full of liquid. A tube was rudely inserted into his nasal cavity, and then the liquid submerged him.
Bloodshot Eyes struggled a few times and passed out again...
He didn't know how much time had passed, but Bloodshot Eyes finally woke up again in a daze. He laboriously opened his eyes, and the first thing that caught his eye was a white ceiling. Milky white light softly penetrated from above, giving a feeling of peace.
Bloodshot Eyes tried to move, but found that he was fixed to a soft bed. Several thin tubes were inserted into his body, transporting some unknown liquid.
This was a small room. The room had no extra furnishings, but it was very clean. Perhaps Bloodshot Eyes' actions activated some kind of signal. Soon, an old man in a white coat staggered in. He reeked of alcohol and looked a little slovenly. He swayed into the room and looked at Bloodshot Eyes for a while with a pair of dim old eyes.
"If I were you, I wouldn't move around casually."
"Who are you? Where is this? What happened to me?" Bloodshot Eyes asked calmly.
His calmness obviously exceeded the other party's expectations. The old man was stunned for a moment, then grinned.
"Hey, kid. Now I know why that guy insisted on bringing you back. You're very good. But that's not a reason for you to mess around. Listen to me, just lie there obediently. You just went through treatment and now you need rest. If you don't want to waste those expensive repair fluids."
"..." Bloodshot Eyes was silent for a while, then nodded. "I understand."
The old man didn't answer Bloodshot Eyes' question. But Bloodshot Eyes knew that if he wanted to answer, he would have said it long ago. And if he didn't want to answer, it was useless to ask.
Suppressing the doubts in his heart, Bloodshot Eyes quickly relaxed. Only at this time did he have the energy to carefully feel his physical condition. He was surprised to find that his physical condition was excellent at the moment, almost restored to its peak state. All organs, muscles, and tissues were exuding amazing vitality. All fatigue was eliminated. The only thing that Bloodshot Eyes was not satisfied with was that the core seemed to have not woken up yet and could not be summoned.
The old man didn't know when he had left. Only Bloodshot Eyes was left in the room again. But Bloodshot Eyes could feel that he was being monitored, and some people were carefully observing him. This lasted for several hours. The door of the room opened again, and a man in a tight-fitting combat suit walked in.
"Looks like you've recovered well. But now is not the time to rest. Get up, someone wants to see you."
Saying that, the man pressed a button on the wall, and Bloodshot Eyes immediately felt that the things fixing him were released. The thin tubes connected to his body also automatically detached. Bloodshot Eyes sat up and moved his body, and found a set of clothes placed next to him.
"Those are yours, put them on."
Silently nodding, Bloodshot Eyes quietly put on the clothes. This was a tight-fitting combat suit similar to the man's, made of an unknown material, very light and strong.
After putting on the clothes, Bloodshot Eyes followed the man out of the room. He found himself in a metal constructed passage. The ceiling above automatically emitted a soft halo. There were also many flashing signal lights on both sides.
What is this place?
Bloodshot Eyes thought with doubt, following the man quickly forward. After passing through several identical passages, the man stopped, opened a metal door on the side of the passage, and then nodded to him.
"Go in!"
Bloodshot Eyes silently walked in. As soon as he passed through the metal door, his eyes lit up, and a very spacious room appeared. The facilities in the room were extremely luxurious, which he had almost never seen. On a huge sofa in the center of the room, a bald man was lying with his back to him.
