Colonial Suit

#56 - Li'er Reappears

The eradication program of the colony armor was even crueler than Blood瞳 had imagined. It was an emergency response, an absolute measure based on protecting the host as the top priority. Fundamentally, it was a war between the enhanced cells manipulated by the control core and the mutated cells. Neither side had a home-field advantage, and the only method they could use was to devour each other. A primitive and brutal mutual devouring, until one side completely perished.

But this process all took place within Blood瞳's body, and all the pain had to be endured by Blood瞳. It was evident how much pressure Blood瞳 was currently under. In fact, if his body hadn't already surpassed human limits, and if the core hadn't severed his tactile nerves, he probably would have been killed by the pain alone.

In the brief few minutes, Blood瞳 watched his skin crack and heal, and his tendons undulate like nimble snakes. Yet he couldn't control a single finger. At the same time, due to the war at the cellular level, his internal organs rapidly deteriorated, and his body temperature soared. Instinct told him that if this continued, the colony armor wouldn't be the first to perish, but himself.

In the intense dizziness, Blood瞳 desperately clenched his teeth to hold on. By now, he couldn't control the war, but he could at least keep himself awake. This was a struggle, a struggle for life.

No… I don't want to die…

I still want to live…

Yes… I must live…

I won't die…

I won't die!

Unknowingly, a strong desire to survive dominated Blood瞳's thoughts. He struggled desperately, roaring with the will to live. Although he couldn't control his body, that didn't hinder his most basic desire for life! This willpower was powerful, so powerful that it could break through the shackles of the enhanced cells!

With a bang, Blood瞳 felt a roar in his ears. Control of his body suddenly returned to his hands. But what followed was all kinds of pain. All the nerves severed by the core emitted painful wails at the same time. This pain was so intense that it almost crushed Blood瞳 in the first instant! And along with the pain came extreme weakness. Without the support of the enhanced cells, Blood瞳's body could barely last even a second!

The core detected the anomaly immediately. "Warning! Severe warning! Host's senses restored, all organs beginning to fail. Vitality cannot support continued eradication. Based on the first priority sequence, cease all actions that harm the host. Initiate emergency assimilation program."

Emergency assimilation!?

This was a term Blood瞳 was hearing for the first time. But at this moment, he didn't have the energy to understand what this term represented. Because at the same time as the core's warning, an even more intense pain suddenly erupted, sweeping through his entire body like a tsunami. Every inch of his skin, every tendon, even every cell, was emitting painful groans at the same time. Under this irresistible pain, Blood瞳's body contracted like a shrimp, and then suddenly opened up, spitting out a cloud of blood.

"Ah!" Blood瞳 finally screamed.

The pain was like a tide, coming swiftly and disappearing quickly. Almost at the same time as Blood瞳 cried out in pain, he suddenly felt his whole body lighten. All the pain vanished in an instant. The feeling of sudden relief made him groan involuntarily, and his body went limp as he knelt down. Only then did he realize that he was already soaked in sweat.

He tried to move his body, and everything was back to normal. Only a strong sense of fatigue swept through his body, as if he had just experienced a fierce battle. But Blood瞳 didn't care about all this. For him, being able to survive was the greatest luck.

Gasping for breath, Blood瞳 had a feeling of surviving a catastrophe. He roughly felt the condition of his body and found that other than extreme fatigue, there was nothing wrong with his body. It was as if everything just now was just a dream.

But Blood瞳 knew it wasn't a dream. He had just wandered around the boundary between life and death. Those three newly acquired units almost cost him his life.

Wild cells? What are those things?

Blood瞳 thought with some fear, while calling out to the core.

"Core, what exactly happened just now?"

"…"

"Core? Are you there?"

"…"

"Core!?"

"…"

A bad feeling suddenly surged into Blood瞳's heart. He could no longer contact the core. What did this mean? He vaguely had a bad premonition.

He remembered the last program the core initiated. Emergency assimilation.

Could it be, this meant mutual destruction?

Damn it! If that was the case, wouldn't it mean he had even lost the initial colony armor!?

Blood瞳 felt a burst of regret, but he was helpless. He always had mixed feelings about the mysterious colony armor. He was both happy about the help it brought and afraid of its mystery. Before it, Blood瞳 had never known of such a terrifying armored weapon that could even treat its owner's life as nourishment. This made him always wary of the colony armor. But now that there was suddenly no response from the core, his heart felt empty, as if he had lost something.

"Ouch…" A low groan echoed in the secret room. Custer woke up.

Blood瞳 never intended to take his life, so he naturally wouldn't strike too hard. So Custer didn't faint for too long. But he was still startled when he woke up.

"You… what's wrong with you?"

Blood瞳's appearance was very disheveled, his whole body was wet as if he had just been fished out of the water. Even more terrifying was that because he had just experienced extreme pain, his lips were bitten through, and the piercing blood red was revealed in the depths of his pupils. It made him look like a hungry wolf, with an astonishingly fierce aura.

"Shut up!" Blood瞳 was too lazy to explain anything to Custer. A single sentence scared the other party into nodding obsequiously.

Damn it, now I have to find a way to leave this place… Blood瞳 thought to himself, losing the colony armor meant he had lost his greatest reliance. If he encountered Zero and Heng again, it would definitely be a close call. Although Blood瞳 learned from Custer that these two mercenary vassals weren't here for him, no one could say for sure that he wouldn't encounter them again. Zero was okay, but Heng's air burst bomb was quite tricky, and Blood瞳 wasn't confident he could dodge it.

Moreover, with Blood瞳's current level of fatigue, he urgently needed to rest.

"Take me away from here, now!" After making a decision, Blood瞳 grabbed Custer from the ground.

"Yes, yes, yes." Custer nodded like a chicken pecking at rice. He looked very cooperative.

In order to survive, Custer would never dare to do anything to offend Blood瞳 at this moment. He hurriedly led Blood瞳 towards the outside of the fortress. Along the way, they passed through several checkpoints in succession, and all the guards, as always, did not entangle with the two in any way.

They walked all the way to the outside of the fortress and saw the familiar sunlight. Blood瞳 finally breathed a sigh of relief. But just as he thought he was about to escape danger, a familiar explosion fluctuation suddenly erupted at the other end of the fortress. His face suddenly changed.

That was Heng's air burst bomb!

"What's over there?" Blood瞳 grabbed Custer and asked.

"Over there?" Custer looked in the direction of Blood瞳's finger with suspicion, and then his face changed.

He saw a bright red dot flying into the sky in the direction Blood瞳 was pointing, and then exploding into a gorgeous firework. "That's Heng's distress signal! They're in danger! Damn it, how could this be! ?"

Custer immediately screamed sharply. Both Zero and Heng were vassals of the universe mercenaries, and it would be a big trouble if something happened to them here! Moreover, he couldn't understand how there could be anything on this low-level civilization's planet that could pose a threat to the two mercenary vassals. With their strength, they were almost invincible when equipped with armor.

But he didn't have a chance to react. Because at the moment he screamed, he felt a pain in his chest, and a palm pierced through it! As blood and internal organs splattered, Custer fell softly.

In his dying moments, Custer thought, "Why kill me? Didn't you say you would let me go?"

A figure flashed beside him, and Blood瞳 had already leaped out like lightning…

The trees on both sides flashed past, and he instantly increased his speed to the extreme. He was like a hunting black panther. Each leap shot out more than ten meters. The running posture with both hands and feet gave him great flexibility, allowing him to shuttle through the dense forest like lightning. He approached the target location in a short while.

Although Blood瞳 was very tired, he didn't slow down at all. Because his heart was extremely anxious.

From Custer's mouth, he knew what Zero and Heng came to this planet for. Their target was Lier. If something happened to Heng over there, did it mean that Lier was also there?

Blood瞳 didn't know what exactly happened there, but he didn't intend to lose any clues about Lier.

The location where Heng sent the signal was not far from the fortress, just on the other side of the mountain wall. When Blood瞳 crossed the last hill, he felt his vision suddenly open up, and the forest had been left behind him.

Before his eyes, a scene that he would never forget appeared.

On the open space at the foot of the mountain, two figures were lying on the ground. The surroundings were a mess. A large amount of soil and rocks were lifted by the bombs, forming one bomb crater after another. The ceramic combat suits on the two were already tattered, revealing dense wounds underneath. Blood accumulated under them to form a pool of blood. It was Heng and Zero!

But what Blood瞳 was concerned about was not them, but the figure standing in front of them.

A cold and beautiful woman wearing a red combat suit with long hair dancing behind her…

Lier!
