Colonial Suit
#251 - wake
Screams, chaos...the entire cabin was a mess. People ran towards the door in terror, even trampling each other.
However, the captain stood coldly in place, a pillar of strength protected by several guards.
Before him, the dried corpse was still frantically devouring a crew member. That crew member hadn't died yet, struggling and letting out shrill screams.
The old captain took a puff from his pipe, then nodded to a guard beside him.
The guard immediately stepped forward and stomped on the dried corpse's head, crushing both the corpse and the crew member into the floor. With a muffled thud, blood mixed with brain matter splattered. The dried corpse and the crew member stopped moving simultaneously.
The pungent smell of blood filled the cabin, and the old captain's face was as cold as ice.
"This isn't just blood; it's a mutated fungus. When did the ship's anti-epidemic system fail? How did such a dangerous thing get into the cabin?"
"Captain, I just checked, and the anti-epidemic system is still working," the first mate said softly from the side.
"Then call the ship's doctor!" the captain interrupted bluntly, his eyes sharp. "No matter what, this thing must be controlled. Call the ship's doctor to collect samples, and then destroy the rest. Mutated fungi are highly contagious. We're doomed if these things spread on the ship."
"Yes." A crew member had already run out and quickly led the ship's doctor in.
The ship's doctor was a short Hobbit. After entering the cabin, he didn't even look at the gruesome scene on the ground and immediately began to work, taking out a large number of collection devices. But just as he was about to collect a sample, the dried corpse on the ground suddenly burst into flames, turning into ashes in an instant, without leaving even a trace of remains.
The ship's doctor's face changed instantly. "Advanced life form?"
"What do you mean?" The captain was stunned, his pipe trembling.
"That corpse is an advanced life form!" The ship's doctor's face was pale as he pointed at the ashes of the dried corpse and shouted. "Only the cells of advanced life forms are like this, burning because of the excessively fast metabolism!"
"Impossible!" The captain gritted his teeth. "That was just my crew member, a normal person just minutes ago!"
"No, I can't be wrong!" The ship's doctor didn't care about the captain's authority and argued loudly. "Its characteristics are exactly the same as those of an advanced life form. Are you doubting my experience!"
Looking at the ship's doctor's almost paranoid judgment, the old captain calmed down instead. His face was gloomy as he muttered to himself, "Could that guy actually be an advanced life form?"
"What advanced life?" The ship's doctor's ears were sharp, and he immediately asked.
"That's none of your concern." The captain waved his hand, then pointed to the ashes on the ground. "You just need to tell me if it's still a threat now and if it can be collected."
"What threat could there be now?" The ship's doctor gave a wry smile. "The self-destruction of an advanced life form is the most thorough, based on the cellular level. Don't even mention collecting it; you can't even detect its characteristics. Have you ever seen an advanced life form leave behind a corpse?"
"Then that's all for you." The captain raised his head and gave a guard beside him a look. The guard led the ship's doctor out of the cabin, and then the other crew members were also driven out.
The entire cabin was left with only the captain and a group of guards.
Looking at the ashes on the ground, the captain's eyes flickered. After a long while, he suddenly said to a guard.
"Ice, I need you to be responsible for this matter."
"Understood." The guard named Ice was a thin man whose whole body seemed to be shrouded in a shadow. If the captain hadn't spoken to him, almost no one would have noticed his existence. But as his voice came out, all the guards shuddered.
The captain breathed a sigh of relief, and a relaxed look appeared on his face again.
"Leave twenty people to follow Ice's arrangements. The others go to the ballroom to protect the young lady. Also, notify those useless people outside to clean this place up. I don't want to see any stains left here. Continue the search. I hope to hear good news before arriving at the next spaceport."
With that...the captain walked out of the cabin.
----------------------------Cutting off the Clues----------------------------
My head hurts...
Erin slowly opened her eyes. Her vision was a little blurry.
She didn't know how she had fainted, only remembering that the man she had rescued had flicked his finger at her. Now her head was so dizzy that she couldn't even see the scene in front of her clearly. After a while, she gradually woke up, staggering to her feet.
"You're awake." A man's voice came from the corner, a little hoarse but very magnetic.
Erin was startled and quickly looked over. She saw the man she had rescued standing in a corner of the room with his back to her, wiping his body with a cloth.
His figure was a little thin but extremely sturdy. Whip-like muscles twitched with his movements, giving a very violent feeling. For some reason, Erin's face turned red.
Her eyes fell on the cloth the man was holding, and it looked familiar.
"Ah, that's my..."
"I'm sorry, my clothes are gone. I can only borrow a corner of your clothes. You don't mind, do you?" The man said indifferently, as if this was the most normal thing in the world.
Erin wanted to say she minded, but looking at the man's nonchalant attitude, she could only sigh. "It's okay, I have a change of clothes."
Before she finished speaking, Erin seemed to suddenly remember something and opened her eyes incredulously. "You...you're not..."
"Are you talking about my body?" The man seemed to know what Erin wanted to say. He chuckled softly. "Some things can't be judged by common sense. Just pretend I was never injured."
"But...but..." Erin was so frightened that she became incoherent. Her face was extremely pale.
Erin never doubted her memory. She clearly remembered how miserable this man was when she rescued him. His entire body was only half left. But now he had suddenly become so complete. How...how was this possible?
In an instant, Erin almost thought she was hallucinating. But no matter how she rubbed her eyes, the man in the corner didn't change.
"Are you a monster?"
Erin heard her voice trembling, but she couldn't control the fear in her heart. The Samoans were very brave, but no amount of courage could explain how a person suddenly went from being incomplete to complete. This had exceeded her understanding.
"Heh..." Hearing her words, the man in the corner gave a bitter smile. He looked down at his body. "Just...just think of me as a monster."
To be honest, Blood瞳 didn't expect such a result when he woke up.
He still remembered the last moment with Lobisk, when most of his body was destroyed by the proton annihilation bomb. If the core hadn't used the positron cannon in time, he probably wouldn't have had a chance to survive. Then Blood瞳 passed out, and the core completely took over the body's permissions.
During this process, Blood瞳 wasn't completely without feeling, but everything became blurred, like sleepwalking. He dreamed that he was floating in the universe, dreamed that he had climbed onto a yacht, and dreamed that this girl had rescued him. But none of these actions were controlled by Blood瞳. He was like an outsider, watching his body struggle.
That feeling was extremely strange.
So even now that his body had been repaired by the core, he still felt like it was a dream.
Maybe...I've really become a monster?
Blood瞳 moved his hands and feet, feeling the reality of the muscles. He couldn't help but shake his head and smile bitterly. He didn't know if this body still belonged to him. Although everything was still so familiar, the scenes he had experienced made him feel absurd.
Especially his left hand.
He didn't know how the core had done it, but his left hand, which had also been destroyed in the proton annihilation bomb, had now been restored to its original state. Not only that, but even the strange consciousness within it had been preserved. Seeming to sense Blood瞳's strangeness, the strange consciousness stirred, transmitting a mocking thought to Blood瞳. Then it yawned and fell back into slumber.
This guy...
Blood瞳 didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Then he threw down the cloth and said to Erin, "Sorry, can you get me some clothes?"
"Ah...of course...of course I can..." Erin exclaimed and came back to her senses from the shock. She hurriedly went to open the door.
But just as she reached the door, it was suddenly kicked open. A man with black-rimmed glasses walked in, followed by several guards.
"Erin! What are you doing here!?"
The man with glasses was stunned for a moment, then said fiercely to Erin.
"Ah...Butler...Butler!"
Erin was startled, a look of fear appearing in her eyes.
The person she feared the most had finally appeared. Although she didn't know why the second butler would appear here, Erin couldn't imagine the scene of him seeing Blood瞳. If the second butler knew she had hidden Blood瞳, he would definitely throw her into the incinerator. Thinking of this, Erin's face turned pale.
Her abnormality obviously attracted the second butler's attention. He looked at Erin suspiciously, then suddenly pushed her away and walked into the cabin.
"Ah, Butler...please wait..."
Erin was frightened. Just as she was about to stop the second butler, she was grabbed by the guards next to her and thrown out the door.
Then she saw the second butler rushing into the cabin with the guards. In horror, she closed her eyes in fear.
She was finished...
…………
………………
The corridor was quiet, but the disaster Erin had expected didn't happen. After a while, she saw the second butler walking out with several guards. She widened her eyes in surprise.
To her surprise, the second butler walked to her side with a gloomy face and then snorted before leaving.
When their figures turned into the passage, Erin rushed into the storage room in a hurry and happened to see Blood瞳's smiling gaze.
Erin was immediately dumbfounded.
"How...how did you do it?"
