Colonial Suit
#21 - Seven Worlds
A consensus was reached. Old Vick couldn't wait to hand over his information to Blood瞳. After hearing his account, Blood瞳 realized how impoverished his knowledge of this world was.
It turned out that this world was not simply a single planet, X35. It also possessed countless civilizations scattered throughout the vast universe, classified into seven levels according to their development. Planet X35, being a ruined planet after nuclear destruction, had extremely low civilization development, so it could only be located at the bottom layer known as the Seventh World. Above this level, there were six more levels of worlds.
Of course, the six worlds above were not like the Seventh World. The higher the level of the world, the more prosperous the civilization and the more advanced the technology. Phenomena such as difficulty in obtaining food and drinking water, as seen in the Seventh World, were not only unseen in other worlds but probably unheard of.
Although everything in the higher-level worlds was so wonderful, it was not easy to enter them. The law of the universe was survival of the fittest. For a planet from a lower-level world to join a higher-level world, its civilization and technology had to reach a certain level to be recognized. For example, if a planet from the Seventh World wanted to enter the Sixth World, its technology would need to reach at least the stage of interstellar travel, and its population would need to reach two billion, solving its own resource recycling problems. This was a very difficult standard to meet. Not to mention a ruined planet like X35, even the better planets in the Seventh World struggled to achieve it.
That was the upgrade of civilization level. If an individual wanted to enter a higher-level world, it was another matter.
After all, although advanced worlds were developed, they also needed people to do some low-level work. Simply put, slaves and laborers. So, it wasn't entirely hopeless for a person from a lower-level world to enter a higher-level world.
Simply put, there were generally three ways to enter a higher-level world.
First, naturally, was to become a slave laborer. Every year, specialized ships would come to the Seventh World to collect slave laborers. People from the current world could be taken away as long as they passed the corresponding inspection, escaping this hellish world. However, the reception of slave laborers had to strictly follow the civilization level classification. Slave laborers from the Seventh World were only allowed to enter the Sixth World, and so on. So, although this was a way, the treatment obtained in the end was far from what one imagined. The status of slave laborers in the Sixth World was terrifyingly low. Anyone could kill them without being punished. Countless slave laborers were beaten to death every year because they couldn't complete their work. In the Sixth World, the status of slave laborers was worse than that of dogs.
The second way was the universally applicable individual upgrade rule. As long as a person possessed talents needed by a higher-level world, they could enter the higher-level world openly and legitimately, automatically obtaining the citizenship status of the higher-level world. And if the talent was particularly outstanding, they could also receive specialized investment and treatment and environment far exceeding those of the lower-level world. So, generally speaking, anyone with a little talent would take this path.
However, this second path, which looked beautiful, was actually insidious and vicious. If excellent talents were recruited by higher-level worlds, the civilization development of lower-level worlds would inevitably stagnate or even regress. In this way, the talent reserves of higher-level worlds were guaranteed, and the development of lower-level worlds was restricted. It was truly harming others to benefit oneself. So, in lower-level worlds, this rule was also known as the 'blood-sucking rule', making countless planetary leaders who longed to enter higher-level worlds gnash their teeth in hatred.
The third way was different from the above two. It didn't require selling dignity and life, nor did it have too high a threshold. But it was the bloodiest of the three rules. Because it wasn't actually an upgrade rule, but a mercenary rule.
As long as one could become a cosmic mercenary, they would automatically obtain citizenship in the Fourth to Sixth Worlds. This rule was stipulated by the cosmic mercenary guild, which spanned the universe. Civilizations with the Fourth to Sixth level of civilization had priority. So, it was extremely attractive. During the period when this rule was first established, the number of cosmic mercenaries once experienced explosive growth. Almost all warriors from lower-level civilizations hoped to obtain the opportunity for a new life through this path. But in reality, after only five years, the number of cosmic mercenaries returned to its original level. This was enough to show the cruelty and bloodiness of this rule.
Cosmic mercenaries were not something one could become just by wanting to. It represented powerful equipment and dominating force. In order to survive in the cruel cosmic wars, the lowest-level cosmic mercenary had to have the ability to annihilate a regular army head-on. Although the regular army here referred to the most basic Seventh World army, don't forget that the requirement was not to defeat, but to annihilate.
A regular army of the Seventh World generally had three to five thousand people. What kind of ability and cold-bloodedness would it take to annihilate such a behemoth? Just thinking about it made one shudder. This was precisely why cosmic mercenaries had such a transcendent status. They were a group of butchers wandering in the universe, ready to stir up bloody storms for their employers at any time.
Blood瞳 considered himself to have some combat power, but he definitely didn't think he could reach the minimum standard for a cosmic mercenary. So, this path was temporarily impassable.
Sitting in the swaying carriage, Blood瞳 listened quietly to Old Vick's narration and suddenly asked.
"Chief, is there no other way besides these three?"
"This..." Old Vick frowned and thought for a while, then sighed. "It's not that there aren't. It's just that this fourth path is too dangerous. Basically, people who take this path don't have good results. So, only people who can't survive here will take the risk."
"What is it?" Blood瞳 asked in a low voice.
Old Vick glanced at him and lowered his voice. "Smuggling."
"The ships that come to collect slave laborers every year will do some extra business. That is, smuggling. As long as you pay enough price, they can take you on board. This way, although you don't have any identity when you arrive in the advanced world, you are free. If you find a suitable opportunity, you can also get citizenship."
"..." Blood瞳 was silent. Obviously, this was not a good path either. Thinking about it, slave laborers were already the lowest level, and this path was actually worse than slave laborers. Saying that there was a suitable opportunity to get citizenship, in fact, this opportunity was infinitely close to zero.
Seeming to see Blood瞳's thoughts, Old Vick laughed heartily and comforted him with a few words. "Actually, you don't need to worry. You are still young and your strength is not bad. You can be a hunter first. After you have savings, you can get some equipment to arm yourself. Or join a hunter team. This way, if you encounter a cosmic mercenary one day, you may be taken in as a vassal. Although vassals can't get the treatment of cosmic mercenaries, you can leave this planet with your master, which is not difficult."
The room fell into a brief silence. After a while, Blood瞳 suddenly smiled and stood up.
"Vassal? Interesting. Then Chief Vick, you still owe me a map and the basic knowledge of this world."
"Before noon tomorrow, these will appear in your room." Old Vick replied with a smile.
"..." Blood瞳 looked at him seriously, turned and walked towards the door. Just as he was about to leave, he stopped.
"Chief Vick..."
"What's the matter?"
"You know so much, you weren't... an ordinary person before, were you?"
"That's not important, is it?" Old Vick replied with a smile, but a sly look flashed in his eyes.
Blood瞳 nodded and left the room...
The night in the wasteland was cold and long. But there was always a time when the clouds cleared and the sun rose. The next morning, the long-absent sun shyly showed its head. Under this warm sunlight, even the gale turned into a gentle breeze, blowing warmly on the body. At noon, the dilapidated caravan of the troupe finally approached the gathering point. Through the car window, the travelers could already see the simple fences and the coming and going of people.
The newest novel is first published at six nine book bar!
As a place for travelers in the wasteland to resupply and trade, gathering points were generally more lively and chaotic.
After paying half a bag of ore, the troupe's caravan was granted permission to enter the gathering point. Following the dirty dirt road into a square. There were already many caravans resting in the square. Groups of travelers moved their goods out and placed them on stalls. Seeing the Black Sheep Troupe enter, they all showed friendly gazes.
The days of the troupes were not easy, so although there was competition between them, they could maintain a relative harmony. After all, maybe someday they would be trapped in the wild and rescued by other troupes. It was necessary to leave a good impression on each other.
The poverty of the Black Sheep Troupe was undoubtedly reflected today. The goods brought out by other troupes were dazzling, occupying several stalls. The goods of the Black Sheep Troupe were only a few packages, barely filling a small stall, attracting the attention of many troupes. However, as the chief, Old Vick was in good spirits today. He leaned proudly against the car door, basking in the sun. His white beard cocked up. In the carriage behind him, the armor that Blood瞳 had given him was quietly placed, having been transformed into its original motorcycle appearance.
Blood瞳 glanced at it as he passed by. He found that the armor had been repaired by Old Vick somehow. Although there were a few ugly patches where he had broken it, it was undoubtedly usable. So, he nodded to Old Vick.
"You are more impressive than I thought."
"When you get old, you see more of the world. Repairing things is nothing." Old Vick replied with a smile. "Blood瞳, the weather is good today. You can also go to the market to stroll around. Maybe you can get something good. You can also sell those few slaves you have here."
Blood瞳 had met those few slaves last night. They were all seventeen or eighteen-year-old girls. According to the market conditions in the apocalypse, such young girls could sell for a good price. But it would take some time.
However, Blood瞳 still thought about it and gave up the idea. It wasn't because he still had some ghostly sense of justice, but simply because he didn't want to add to the burden. With a few more mouths to feed, Blood瞳 couldn't afford such huge expenses.
"Keep those few slaves yourself. Chief Vick, but I hope they can become free people in the future."
"That's not a small burden." Old Vick seemed to have known that Blood瞳 would say this, showing the expression of an old fox.
Blood瞳 smiled dumbly, shook his head, and walked towards the market.
