195 – Side Story – Class Reunion (3)
After Yuna returned to her seat, the real drinking party began.
Inside the pub, they also sell various alcoholic beverages such as cocktails and whiskey, so some of the guys who quickly finished a glass of beer moved on to that. It seems like they wanted to drink as much as they wanted since it wasn’t their money.
So most of the men got drunk and started talking amongst themselves, while this group was mainly comprised of women, and the conversation continued in a calm atmosphere.
“I’ve been watching your YouTube channel a lot lately. You guys have grown up so much.”
“I recommended you? Did I do a good job?”
When Kim Soo-bin smiled naturally as if asking for a compliment, Yuna silently raised her thumb.
Last time I met Kim Soo-bin, I heard him say, “I’m promoting your YouTube channel a lot too!” But I didn’t know he was joking. He deserves to be called “Yuna’s number one fan” himself.
Even so, I’m still your number one fan. Ahem.
“How old are the kids now?”
“I’m seven now. I’ll be entering elementary school next year.”
“Wow, really? Time flies. It feels like it was just yesterday that you guys got married… .”
I also wholeheartedly agree with Park Soo-young. It seems like only yesterday that the kids were crawling, and now they are about to enter elementary school. It really feels like time flies.
“By the way, Siyoon, you’re also secretly good at screen acting, right?”
“Really? I haven’t really thought about it.”
Just as I was thinking about whether I should give up my seat so the girls could talk amongst themselves, Park Soo-young pointed at me and quietly opened her mouth.
Now that I think about it, Yuna said something like that before. She said that the screen is better than her and stuff.
To be honest, I still don’t really know what it means to have good screen capture. If we compare it to Armour, which I’ve seen often, there’s no real difference whether you look at it through the camera or in person.
Or maybe I see it so often that I can’t tell the difference? Either way, I guess I’ll take it as a compliment.
“Hey, you have to speak properly. Their faces are different from ours from the start.”
“That’s true, hehe.”
Park Soo-young continued to giggle and agreed with the words that came from next to her.
As we continued to talk like that, the atmosphere changed to one where Yuna and I were holding a press conference rather than sharing our recent news.
“Yuna, can I have another drink?”
As the atmosphere became more relaxed, Yuna also started drinking faster and naturally her glass became empty.
So I asked quietly, pushing aside the empty beer glass, and Yuna nodded as if she had been waiting.
“Yeah, honey?”
“I’ll drink slowly. There’s still some left.”
I could drink a little faster, but since I’m with Yuna, I decided to refrain from drinking as much as possible. Even if I take a taxi or call a taxi on the way back, I have to be sane to take care of Yuna.
“But Siyoon, you still call Yuna by her name? Yuna keeps calling you ‘Honey.’”
“Uh, what… .”
While I was deliberately picking up some dry snacks and putting them in my mouth to slow down my drinking pace, Kim Soo-bin made an unexpected remark.
It was a question that was difficult to answer, so I nodded my head as if letting the question slip, and Yuna grabbed my arm.
“I’ve been wondering that too. Sometimes you call me ‘Honey,’ but most of the time you call me by my name. Is there a reason for that?”
“There’s no particular reason….”
I scratched my cheek awkwardly, wondering how I could explain this. If it had been a simple, common reason like ‘because it’s familiar’, I would have answered more easily.
But I had my own reasons for this. It was a bit embarrassing to reveal it in front of Yuna, and if someone saw it, they might tease me and say, ‘Why do you care so much about that?’
Actually, in the early days of my marriage, I tried to call Yuna ‘Honey’ to treat her as a wife, not as a childhood friend or girlfriend. Maybe I mistakenly thought that was a duty between a married couple.
However, at some point, we started calling her by her name again, like we did when we were little. If I remember correctly, it was when the kids started talking in earnest.
“What should I say… One day, that thought suddenly occurred to me.”
“What are you thinking?”
As I cautiously parted my lips in embarrassment, Yuna tilted her head and pressed her body closer to me. Perhaps it was because she was gradually becoming drunk and was no longer concerned about what other people thought.
No, I didn’t really care to begin with. That’s because it’s Han Yuna.
I gently stroked my wife’s head and turned my head towards her gaze.
“Whether it’s my children or my parents, there are fewer people who call me Yuna by my name. It’s like I’m no longer Yuna, but someone’s mother, or someone’s daughter-in-law.”
In fact, it may have been a natural phenomenon. But at the time, it gave me a strange sense of discomfort.
Outside, she’s Yuna of Armo, at home, she’s the mother of twins, and at her in-laws, she’s a daughter-in-law. Except for Yuna’s family and a few acquaintances, it felt like there were fewer people who treated Yuna as ‘Han Yuna’ anymore.
That must have been why even the closest country began to treat Yuna as Yuna, and with that thought, she began to mention her name again.
As I continued to tell the story, the eyes of the women, including Yuna, widened. That reaction somehow made me feel even more embarrassed, so I avoided eye contact and opened my mouth as if making an excuse.
“That’s just it. There wasn’t any particular grand reason.”
He scratched his cheek sheepishly, looked away, and drank down the remaining third of the beer in one gulp. When you’re feeling embarrassed, the best thing to do is to rely on alcohol.
“So that’s why… Thank you, honey. I didn’t even know it had such a deep meaning.”
“I told you, it wasn’t really a deep meaning. I just thought of it that way on my own.”
My face got hot for no reason when I saw Yuna leaning her head against me and looking at me with her deep eyes.
If it were just the two of us, it would have been less embarrassing to talk about this, but saying this in front of other people makes me want to hide in a hole right now.
“Wow, Shiyoon is so thoughtful. If my husband had said something like that, I would have been blinded again.”
“Ugh, so it’s taken off now?”
“Hey, it’s been a while since I took it off.”
Meanwhile, Park Soo-young burst into laughter while dissing her husband at an unexpected time.
Now that I think about it, they got married just as quickly as we did. In that sense, it might actually be amazing that we still haven’t completely lost our virginity.
“Since high school, Siyoon only looked at Yuna. It’s still the same.”
“… Let’s leave that story alone. It’s a dark history.”
Yoon Seo-ah opened her mouth as if defending me, but from my perspective, it was a topic I wish she had never brought up.
Even now, Yuna often goes on and on about my dark past in front of the kids, saying, “When your dad was in high school,” etc. This is mainly about my fierce efforts to not show my love for Yuna.
“Well, even back then, the kids talked a lot. You could tell just by looking at Siyoon that he liked Yuna but was holding back.”
“That’s right. Yuna didn’t know, though.”
Despite the parties’ request to stop, Park Soo-young and Kim Soo-bin laughed amongst themselves and reminisced about those days.
“What!? I was the only one who didn’t know? You guys knew?”
On the other hand, Yuna had a hard time believing that she was just being insensitive, so she glared at the three people in turn. To anyone who saw her, it looked like she was questioning the suspect.
“I know. Guys don’t spend that much time on girls they’re not interested in.”
“But isn’t it the same for women?”
“Oh, I see. Then let’s say he’s a person, not a man.”
Yuna drank her refilled beer with a look of despair in her eyes as she watched the three of them laughing while beating drums and janggu among themselves.
I guess it was quite a shock.
“Among the girls, the ones Siyoon was after probably gave up after finding out. Siyoon was secretly popular.”
“Really? You knew that too?”
“No way. Even if I had known from the beginning, it wouldn’t have made a difference… .”
In response to Yoon Seo-ah’s subsequent words, Yuna questioned me as if she was questioning me, but I firmly waved my hand and declared my innocence.
Even putting aside whether I was really popular at the time, at the time I had never considered anyone other than Yuna as a romantic interest, and I wasn’t even interested in her.
It wouldn’t have made a difference whether they gave up or kept pushing forward without giving up.
By the way, Yoon Seo-ah, she secretly knows a lot of things. I remember her as being quite the quiet type.
“Ugh, I think I drank too much beer. I’m going to go to the bathroom.”
“Come with me. The way to the bathroom here is a little dark.”
“Really? Thanks, Seo-ah.”
As the two of them left for a while, the topic naturally shifted to Kim Soo-bin’s recent activities.
I heard that you and Choi Min-seong are planning to have a second child, so I’m sure there are a lot of questions to ask.
This time it’s your turn, Kim Soo-bin.
