180 – Side Story – Daily Life 4 Years Later (1)
Four years have passed since our first birthday party, and many changes have come to our family.
First of all, the biggest change is the growth of the children. The twins, who went to daycare and are now attending kindergarten this year, have grown so much that I can’t even remember what they were like back then.
In the meantime, I had to go to the military as a full-time employee, so there were many times when I was worried, but fortunately, I was able to get through it without any problems.
In some ways, it could be said that the work location was simply changed from the company to the military, so it wasn’t as difficult as I had feared. I was able to properly devote time to my family on weekends.
Another memorable event would be the wedding of Choi Min-seong and Kim Soo-bin.
After graduating from graduate school and each having a decent job, the couple successfully got married as if they had been waiting for it, and just had a baby this year.
It’s been a little over half a year since I gave birth. When Kim Soo-bin was pregnant, I could see that both of us were having a hard time. It was so bad that even the world-famous Choi Min-seong asked me for advice, so I guess that says it all.
“You don’t know how much I cry at night. Because of that, my husband and I sleep wide open at dawn.”
“That was the time. We were like that too.”
And one of the main characters, Kim Soo-bin, came to our house after a long time and was busy talking about her hard work as a new mother.
A bitter smile naturally appeared on Yuna and I’s lips as we watched the scene. It was as if the two of them were imitating our appearance exactly four years ago.
Suddenly.
“Mommy!”
“Daddy!”
Oh my, it’s about time you came.
I was so busy meeting up with friends and chatting that I forgot that it was time for the kids to come home from kindergarten. I wasn’t too worried though since they dropped me off right in front of my house.
“Kids, you should say hello to your aunt first.”
“Oh! Hello, Aunt.”
“hello.”
The two children who had innocently run in finally found Kim Soo-bin sitting on the sofa and greeted him with a belly button. I don’t know about anything else, but I definitely taught them manners, and it seems like it’s paying off.
From noble mtl dot com
“Yeah, Seol-ha and Seol-ah, it’s been a while. How have you been?”
“yes!”
“I went to see penguins with my dad yesterday!”
“Penguin? That would be cute.”
Despite Seol-ah’s somewhat unexpected remark, Kim Soo-bin smiled happily and asked me in a casual manner, “What’s with the penguin?”
“Last time, there was a talent show at kindergarten, and Seol-ah won first place. When I asked her what she wanted as a prize, she said she wanted to go to the zoo.”
“Really? That’s a big deal. Don’t you usually go to the zoo often?”
Kim Soo-bin, who knew that I spent a lot of time with my family, opened his eyes wide as if he was somewhat surprised. At those words, Yuna, who was standing next to me, turned sharp.
How do I explain this?
“Seol-ah said she wanted to go alone with her dad.”
“What? Really?”
Yuna spoke instead, leaving me, who was worrying, with her lips sticking out all the way to her nose.
Then, it was difficult to meet Kim Soo-bin’s gaze as he asked if it was true, as if he couldn’t believe it. It was even more absurd that it was true.
“He always said that to me. He wants to play with his dad too, but his mom always monopolizes it.”
“What the hell did you do in front of those kids?”
Yuna raised her voice toward Kim Soo-bin, who was asking her questions as if she was amazed, as if she was angry at someone who had farted.
“I didn’t do anything special!? All I did was….”
“only?”
Kim Soo-bin listened as if he was curious about how deep the ocean was and how wide the sky was. Yuna responded to him with a voice that sounded like an ant crawling, her cheeks slightly red.
“… I just got jealous when I saw them playing around without me, so I got involved.”
“You, on that topic, dared to say you wanted to have two kids?”
Well, I totally agree. I never imagined that there would be a mother who would be jealous of her daughter.
“Oh, anyway, that’s why Seol-ah got angry and we went out to play together yesterday.”
“I see… You’ve had a hard time, Siyoon.”
“Thank you for understanding.”
My heart ached because of Kim Soo-bin, who looked at me with a compassionate expression.
Except for my father-in-law and mother-in-law, there were hardly any people who recognized my hard work. Thanks to this, even though I am not a person who cries, tears are almost falling.
Last week, my head hurts as I recall Yuna getting angry at her five-year-old daughter for insisting that she sleep with her father, saying that it was her mother’s.
It’s better than getting bored, but sometimes I feel scared of my mother’s excessive love.
“Dad! Seol-ah wants to ride an airplane!”
“I wonder?”
While we were chatting like that, Seol-ah climbed up onto my thigh and started acting cute, clinging to me like a cicada on an old tree. She must have been itchy because she hadn’t even shaved yet, but the way she rubbed her face against mine was infinitely adorable.
My daughter is asking me to do this, so I can’t help it. I have no choice but to use some force.
“Anyway, I told Seol-ah that it’s too much… .”
I could hear my mother mumbling behind me, but I tried to ignore it and got up from my seat while holding Seol-ah in my arms.
As for the stuffy stuff, I guess I can just work hard to loosen it up later in bed.
“Go? Hold on tight so you don’t miss it?”
“huh!”
He put his hand between Seol-ah’s armpits and lifted her up, gave her some solid instructions, and then quickly walked forward.
“Booow!”
“Kyahahaha!”
“This time we’re going this way. Boohoo!”
“Hehehe, this is fun!”
It’s fun to play with her because her reactions are good. Well, our princess’ reactions are unrivaled. The only flaw is that she only shows it in front of close friends.
“Huh? Seol-ha, the teacher is going on a picnic next week?”
“huh!”
Meanwhile, Yuna, who was rummaging through Seol-ha’s kindergarten bag to see if there were any school newsletters or anything, opened her eyes wide when she saw one flyer. From what she heard, it seemed like there was going to be a kindergarten field trip next week.
Oh, a picnic. It’s that time already.
“Please bring your own lunch, and the kindergarten will provide snacks… Since there is a lot of grass, please be careful of bugs and such and send your children to school wearing long clothes…”
“Fortunately, it’s not hot, so it would be nice to send him off wearing long clothes.”
“That’s right. Especially on snowy days, I hate the heat…”
When I said something while listening to Yuna reading the household newsletter, she nodded and continued reading something in a mumbled tone.
Five years have passed in the blink of an eye, and now I can clearly see her as a mother from the side profile. I think it’s unfair that her beauty hasn’t died down at all despite that.
“Should I pack something like bug repellent?”
“That would be better. I’ll buy a few when I go out later.”
Still holding Seol-ah up, Yuna narrowed her eyes and fought with the flyer for a while before she got up from her seat, picking up Seol-ha’s bag.
“Subin, are you okay today?”
“Well, it’s nothing special… Why? Is there something urgent?”
Kim Soo-bin nodded with a puzzled expression at Yuna’s sudden question about his future schedule. Now that I think about it, didn’t he say that his mother was at home right now?
“Then, while you’re at my house today, teach me how to cook. I’ll pay you a decent hourly wage.”
At Yuna’s subsequent request, I ended up making the same expression as Kim Soo-bin.
Cooking? Why are you suddenly cooking?
“Cooking? Yuna, don’t you know how to cook a meal now?”
It’s exactly as Kim Soo-bin said.
Yuna originally had a terrible cooking habit, and even after getting married, I either did all the cooking myself or left it to the housekeeper when I was away, so I never touched a knife and lived away from cooking.
I can still do very basic things like cooking rice or frying eggs, but that’s about it. I’m not very good at anything that can be called ‘cooking’.
But why are you suddenly learning that now?
It seemed like he hadn’t really had any intention of learning anything over the past few years, and I didn’t really have any intention of telling someone to learn it even though I didn’t have to do it myself.
“Other than that, I want to learn properly this time.”
“Well, I can teach you, but… It’s a bit strange. Is there a reason?”
I was also curious, so I naturally listened to Kim Soo-bin’s question.
Have you suddenly become interested in cooking? Have you found a dish you want to try making? It seems too sudden for that.
“…Isn’t that what you should give me?”
“Huh? What did you say, Yuna?”
Yuna’s voice was a bit muffled because she was responding with a somewhat hesitant tone. Kim Soo-bin must not have heard it either, as he listened again and asked her to repeat it.
Then, Yuna, who had been glancing this way and crumpling the poor Seol-ha bag she was holding in her hand, opened her mouth again, raising her voice as if to hide her embarrassment.
“Oh, our kids are going on a field trip for the first time, so as a mother, I should at least make them lunches and send them! I have pride as a mother!”
I was momentarily dazed for an unexpected reason, but when my eyes met with Soobin Kim’s, I ended up smiling at the same time.
Just be honest and say you want to make the kids’ lunch boxes. What’s going on here? This slutty wife even tries to tease her kids. Anyway, she’s really cute.
“By the way, is it okay if you learn from me? There are better people out there.”
“How can I show this embarrassing side of myself to my dad…! Okay, come into the kitchen quickly.”
“No.”
It’s embarrassing to be bad at cooking. Does that mean that all I’ve seen so far is not embarrassing? It’s surprising in many ways.
Anyway, while I was happily watching the two women who had entered the kitchen, my eyes met with Seol-ah’s, who was in my arms.
“Seol-ah, I heard that Mom made an incredibly delicious lunchbox for the picnic day?”
“Really!? Wow!”
If my wife saw this sight, she would try to stop me right away, but whatever. If she were my wife, she would definitely learn how to cook properly by that day and make delicious lunch boxes for our two children.
So, let’s raise the expectations to the max.
It’s not my job anyway.
