Azeroth Monster Manual
#44 - Magic Contest
The crowd began to whisper. Rommath's previously composed expression turned flustered. This was not in line with the promise made to him by His Majesty Anasterian.
"Please allow this meddlesome old man to prattle on for a bit longer."
Antonidas pressed his hands down, and only after the crowd's emotions had stabilized did he continue speaking.
"Of course, the rules of this magic competition still need to be jointly discussed and determined by the Kirin Tor and the high-ranking officials of Silvermoon…"
Hearing this, Rommath's previously anxious emotions calmed down. At least the other party still wanted to continue the discussion, so he still had a chance to regain the initiative he had lost.
"Competition alone does not conform to the Kirin Tor's consistent style, so I propose that the winning side receive some prizes."
The crowd, who had just calmed down, became excited when they heard that the competition would have prizes, and their breathing became heavy.
This was a magic competition jointly organized by Dalaran and Silvermoon City, the two most ancient magic cities, so the prizes promised by the Archmage…
"If the Quel'Dorei side led by Archmage Rommath wins, then he will receive a precious seat on the Kirin Tor's Council of Six…
But if the Kirin Tor, led by this old man, manages to win, then we will obtain the sharing rights to all of El's research achievements to date, and the sharing rights to the research achievements of the next 10 years…"
As soon as these words came out, the whole place was in an uproar. Modera looked at Antonidas with a complex expression, while two human archmages with impatient tempers stood up directly, loudly questioning something.
Rommath's face was ashen. This banquet had completely disrupted his plans, but he could not rashly refuse directly. He still needed to ask the Sun King for his opinion.
"How can you…"
Kael'thas's golden eyebrows stood on end. He was just about to say something, but was interrupted by El beside him.
The youth gently patted the prince's raised arm until he slowly lowered it, then said:
"Are my research results more valuable than the identity of a Kirin Tor council member? Archmage Antonidas."
The youth's teasing remarks did not make the Archmage even the slightest bit dissatisfied. He just said with a smile.
"Master El, you are still too modest. Your research results are a treasure of the entire Azeroth…
The Powered Boots developed by the Salronas Alchemy Workshop, the Limited Invincibility Belt… these early achievements were sold to the Kingdom of Lordaeron by His Majesty the Sun King at a high price.
And now, those precious engineering creations can only be equipped in small quantities by the most elite troops.
And the Golden Fertilizer you recently developed is sweeping across the entire Dalaran, allowing thousands of low-level mages to find a shortcut to advancement. This is an epoch-making feat.
But these cannot show your greatness… Perhaps you shouldn't be so secretive and should share this knowledge with Dalaran, which is equally eager for it. What do you think?"
'Good fellow, he's waiting for me here.'
El smiled wryly. The flattery and praise from the honey-tongued old man were all sugar-coated bullets, and the last sentence was the real dagger.
El remained noncommittal, just smiling as he watched Antonidas perform alone.
'Truly extraordinary. I used the provocation method in front of everyone, but at his age, he didn't have any excessive reaction.'
Antonidas silently pondered something, only to see his face full of smiles, and that amiable face became even more kind.
"Of course, I am not putting pressure on you. Knowledge is valuable. If you contribute this knowledge, then I can bypass everyone and make you a member of the Kirin Tor family."
"Wow…"
The entire hall erupted in a series of rapid exclamations. Rommath, who had been closing his eyes to rest, suddenly stood up. His face, which was already ashen, became even more unsightly, and the goblet he was shaking in his hand slowly cracked and shattered all over the floor.
Hermeet vigilantly sized up the elf who was trying hard to suppress his anger. He knew that the relationship between this guy, who was said to be a big shot from Silvermoon City, and Master El was not as harmonious as it appeared on the surface.
"Okay, I agree."
El stood up, elegantly raised his goblet, and took a light sip.
Antonidas: "Great, this magic competition…"
"I agree, this magic competition!"
El shook his head, watching Antonidas's face change like a Peking opera mask, turning purple and black for a while, and finally couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"You can't do this, Master El."
Rommath couldn't hold back any longer. He bent over, and the common human language he had been using unconsciously turned into rapid Thalassian.
"I don't think the Sun King will reject my proposal, Lord Rommath. Go and ask His Majesty."
El smiled slightly and slowly left the stage, surrounded by Hermeet and Kael'thas, leaving a mess behind.
Antonidas suppressed the urge to wave his staff, panting heavily as he sat back in his seat.
'Very well, you forced me to do this, El Salronas.'
