Azeroth Monster Manual

#164 - Four twos and two kings, how do you want me to lose?

A storm of Shadow Arrows once again rained down on Aier. Even Hex, a legendary spellcaster, was panting slightly, beads of sweat forming on her temples after casting this seventh-circle legendary spell.

But her eyes were filled with the joy of defeating her opponent. To be able to destroy a legendary elven mage in such a simple and brutal way was the most satisfying thing she had done in decades.

As one of the universe's six primal forces, Shadow has always held a pivotal position. Just as Fel corresponds to Arcane, and Holy Light corresponds to Shadow, Light and Shadow are two sides of the same coin, inseparable. To explain it using a metaphysical concept from Aier's previous life: 'A solitary yin does not generate, a solitary yang does not grow'.

However, for thousands of years, some 'righteous individuals' have believed that Holy Light is the embodiment of justice, while Shadow has become synonymous with evil. Almost all mainstream kingdoms have defined Shadow magic as forbidden magic, not allowing anyone to research or learn it.

But the troll race has gone against the grain. They are not like the human kingdoms that tout justice, nor like the elven kingdoms that regard Arcane as the truth. Their culture and heritage, apart from the unavoidable factor of the Loa, boils down to a simple and brutal principle:

Any power that can make them 'stronger' is a good power.

There was a child in Dalaran, a human boy who lived an unremarkable life, but whose name was only discovered after his death decades later.

This boy was called Ulduar. Decades later, he authored a magical codex that, along with its twin star, the Book of Ulduar, became one of Dalaran's most notorious texts.

Ulduar's research paper on Shadow magic was compiled into a book by the School of Necromancy after his death. Unfortunately, this great work was permanently banned by Antonidas.

The book detailed the origin and application of Shadow, but what Ulduar did not know was that even before the orcs came to Azeroth, there were pioneers who had walked ahead of Gul'dan.

It is impossible to trace back to when the trolls learned Shadow magic, but Aier knew that these trolls' Shadow magic did not come from that deformed orc, but from their spiritual totem - the Loa gods.

And for Hex, as a legendary spellcaster, to be able to use such powerful Shadow magic, there was only one explanation:

"Damn it, Hakkar must have completely devoured Shirvallah's avatar. The Shadow magic within this woman's body isn't genuine Shadow magic either, but a portion of Shirvallah's Shadow power bestowed upon her by Hakkar!"

The young man quickly calculated the trajectory of the Shadow Arrows, but no matter how he calculated, he couldn't completely evade the storm of Shadow Arrows.

Buzz...

In the nick of time, he suddenly remembered a skill he had never used before. With a surge of magic, the young man's tall and slender figure instantly transformed into a mass of Shadow energy.

[Vanish]: Transform into pure Shadow energy for 6 seconds, reducing all damage taken by 60%, but unable to attack or cast spells. Can be cast while stunned, feared, or silenced. Removes all snare and movement impairing effects when cast, and grants immunity to such effects during Vanish. Note: Immune to Shadow element during Vanish.

As if the scene was replaying, hundreds of Shadow Arrows silently merged into the 'sphere' that Aier had transformed into, disappearing without a trace.

Hex continued to cast spells with suspicion, but this time she did not choose to continue using the seventh-circle spell from before, but tentatively threw out a weak ball of Shadow energy.

"Puff."

The Shadow energy became a part of Aier's 'body' as soon as it touched him, showing no abnormalities at all.

"How is that possible!"

Hex screamed, wanting to continue casting spells, but thinking of the strange scene that had just occurred, she couldn't help but force herself to calm down.

"You! Kill him for me!"

The High Priestess, with a cold face, ordered the guards who had gathered behind her at some point to rush up and kill Aier.

......

Like lying in a warm ocean current, Aier felt extremely comfortable at this moment. His mind was relaxed, reveling in the sea of Shadow.

"Why, why is the Shadow energy I felt on Gul'dan incomparably cold and highly corrosive, but the Shadow energy after Vanish is so warm? This feeling... this feeling is like being wrapped in Holy Light."

The young man moaned comfortably, completely forgetting that his main body was still outside fighting countless enemies. At this moment, he just wanted to get a good night's sleep and recover his exhausted nerves.

Just as the young man was drowsy and his mind was extremely relaxed, he suddenly felt hundreds of Shadow energy masses being injected into his 'body'. These Shadow energy masses were as icy and bone-chilling as the Shadow energy on Gul'dan, making him very uncomfortable.

But unexpectedly, in just an instant, these foreign Shadow energy masses were gradually assimilated, like hundreds of rivers flowing into the sea, turning into the 'warm' Shadow within his body.

Aier stood on the spot, ignoring the rushing Wicked Branch Guardians and the Shadow energy shooting towards him. He just stared blankly at the lines on his palm, as if in a dream.

"Did I become a power bank?"

Casually casting a few spells to deal with the rushing guards, the previous fierce battle had completely destroyed the epic-level professionals beside Hex. Now, only Hex, this not-so-troublesome trouble, was left in front of Aier.

As if to confirm his guess, Aier controlled the weak Shadow energy in his body, dyeing his body with a layer of dark black.

"Bang!"

"Bang, bang!"

......

Dense Shadow spells flew towards the young man, making fierce collision sounds.

The young man groaned and almost knelt to the ground.

"Damn it, miscalculated. This Shadow barrier is too thin."

Seeing that her spell was effective, Hex in the distance began to accumulate magic again, preparing to release the powerful seventh-circle spell from just now.

The young man lowered his head, not knowing what he was thinking, but the corners of his mouth quietly revealed a sly smile under the cover of Shadow.

"You've been fooled."

The sky-covering Shadow Arrows appeared again. Hex frantically waved her arms, letting out a piercing scream from her mouth. She had squeezed out 90% of the Shadow energy in her body, just to achieve her goal in one battle and completely kill this unkillable cockroach.

Aier stood up leisurely. Unlike before, the Shadow covering his whole body gradually shrunk, until it turned into a huge, jet-black disc, appearing on his chest.

A fraction of a second later, thousands of Shadow bullets, thicker than arms, shot towards the young man.

......

Hex supported her slender and enchanting waist, breathing heavily. She stared unblinkingly at the direction where the young man had fallen, the scene of the young man being blasted into a honeycomb appearing in her mind. She finally couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"This is Hakkar's great power! Even the cunning Shirvallah can only obediently have his energy extracted by the Blood God. Who do you think you are? Just a white-skinned pig slightly stronger than an ant!"

Hex slowly approached, she even kicked the 'scorched' corpse on the ground, until she confirmed that Aier was really dead, the High Priestess's light purple lips finally curled up.

Just as she lowered her head, preparing to cut off this white-skinned pig's head as her trophy, a powerful mental energy suddenly broke into her mind.

"Got you!"

Two pairs of eyes met instantly. The young man's eyes flickered with inexplicable light, while Hex's terrified eyes instantly became dull.

"Haha..."

"Hahahaha"

"Hahahahaha"

The young man lay on the ground, laughing heartily, while Hex stood blankly on the spot, staring blankly ahead.

"Hinterlands, starting tomorrow, it will change its flag!"

......

"Lord Aier!"

A muffled thunder-like sound awakened the young man who was immersed in his own world. He raised his head slightly, but saw the 'Type Zero' floating in the air, which he hadn't seen for a long time.

And the pilot of Type Zero was also obvious.

"Idiot."

Aier sighed helplessly, although he scolded the old dwarf in his mouth, a warm emotion flowed in his eyes.

"Let me see your shoulder."

Aier looked at the old dwarf's shoulder, which was festering beyond recognition, and said seriously.

"It's nothing... just a small injury, ouch, my butt."

The old dwarf covered his butt and could only reluctantly walk to Aier.

Looking at the wound in front of him that was corroded by Shadow energy, Aier couldn't help but want to kick this idiot ten meters away, but when he saw the old dwarf's aggrieved expression, he softened a little.

His palm instantly turned pitch black. Aier tried to put his palm on Hermit's shoulder. A few seconds later, something magical happened. As soon as the Shadow energy, which was like a maggot on the bone, touched the young man's palm, it was slowly absorbed by the young man's pitch-black palm, until it disappeared without a trace.

"Ah, my shoulder isn't numb anymore? Ouch, it hurts so much."

The old dwarf, who hadn't been happy for a few seconds, shivered from the sudden pain. He fell to the ground all of a sudden, rolling around.

"Bear with it!"

Shooting a displeased glance at the old dwarf who was pretending, Hermit quickly got up with a flattering smile and stood back in place without saying a word.

Feeling the Shadow magic in his body increase slightly, the young man finally confirmed that he had really become a power bank.

Sighing helplessly, he roughly pressed down on Hermit's shoulder, and pale green energy floated out. The old dwarf grinned as he watched the originally ferocious wound heal instantly under the young man's operation.

"Lord Aier, if you opened a clinic, you would definitely make a lot of money."

The old dwarf scratched his head and smiled naively.

"Stop being so glib. I'll give you a task. Before Type Zero runs out of fuel, burn down the entire Zul'Aman for me. Is there any problem?"

"Guarantee to complete the task!"

Giving a funny salute, the old dwarf scurried into the cockpit of Type Zero without looking back.

"This guy!"

Withdrawing his right leg, which had kicked into the air, the young man couldn't help but laugh.

"Next, I need to think about how to use this trump card."

Slightly hooking Hex's chin, the young man smiled playfully while patting the High Priestess's beautiful face.

"Four twos with two jokers, how can I lose?"
