Chapter 31 Canyon Watchtower

"Dry food is ready, drinking water is ready, weapons are ready..."

The next morning, Carl and Hope carefully checked the supplies in the dimensional bag and prepared to set off for the source of malice that Carl had sensed before.

In order to enhance his combat capability, Carl modified the pulley crossbow and installed it on the left arm of the arcane power armor.

The pulley crossbow can now be automatically wound through the mechanism of the power armor, which gives Carl another convenient way to attack.

"Very good, the supplies are ready, let's go!"

Pressing his palm on the chest of the power armor, as Carl activated the characteristics of the armored division, the power armor instantly became virtual, and then directly put on Carl's body.

Looking up, the crystal at the position of the eyes of the power armor lit up with yellow light.

Everything is ready, and along the climbing rope, the two returned to the ground.

This mechanism has been added with a pulley group by Carl, and the speed and load-bearing capacity of the operation are even better.

"Can you still sense the source of malice now?"

Looking at Carl beside him, Hope looked around vigilantly, fearing that something dangerous would emerge at this time.

"Well, there is still a faint sense now, probably in this direction."

Pointing in the direction where the wave came from before, Carl walked in front and took the initiative to lead the way.

Although the design of this power armor has become insufficient in defense due to the constraints of the original armor, Carl's structural design is quite excellent, and there is no sound when the power armor walks.

The mushroom forest emitting orange-yellow fluorescence is as quiet as ever. Along the way, the two have hardly encountered any creatures.

However, there is a rust monster that seems to be attracted by Carl's power armor, but after Carl fired a magic crossbow at it, this sensible guy turned around and ran away.

Soon, the two left the forest.

"Is this... a canyon?"

After walking out of the forest, because there was no huge mushroom blocking the view, the scene in front appeared in front of Carl and Hope without any hindrance.

It was a highland that was almost vertical to the ground, looking like the red soil continent in One Piece.

But its height is definitely not that outrageous, but it is at least six or seven stories high.

Facing the mushroom forest, a wide crack spreads deep into the highlands, forming a canyon.

"Be careful, this doesn't look like it was formed naturally, the crack is a bit too straight."

After observing for a while, Hope cautiously put forward his own views.

The pass from Zoram to the Kingdom of Breland is a canyon east of the Gray Wall City where Hope lives. Hope is quite familiar with similar terrain.

Not "natural", either it means that it was excavated by intelligent life, or it was shaken out by a wizard using earthquake magic.

Either way, it doesn't look like the two of them can handle it.

"Then try to sneak over. Wait a minute, I'll turn down the light source of the power armor."

After standing there for a while, Carl controlled the energy crystals on his chest and eyes to dim.

The forest is a long distance away from the canyon. In order to prevent someone in the canyon from discovering them, the two must try to hide as much as possible.

Soon, Hope and Carl moved towards the canyon one after the other.

At the beginning, the two people's movements were somewhat cautious, but as they got closer, their movements became bolder.

Because the closer they got, the clearer they could see the situation at the canyon intersection.

"It seems that there are indeed other intelligent life forms in this underground city. Look at the watchtower. If there are people there, we will be seen as soon as we walk out of the mushroom forest."

"But looking at the degree of damage of these things, they have not been repaired for at least ten years. Did something happen?"

When there were only more than a hundred meters left to the canyon entrance, Carl and Hope were very sure that there was no one guarding the canyon entrance.

At least not now.

Although the possibility that the people in the watchtower wanted to ambush them could not be completely ruled out, considering the terrain advantage of the other party occupying the commanding heights, this was completely unnecessary.

Seeing that they had arrived at the bottom of the watchtower, Carl raised his hand and fired a magic crossbow arrow into the watchtower.

As expected, no suspicious sounds came from the tower.

"I'll go ahead, you'll cover the rear."

In order to eliminate the last hidden danger, Carl relied on his power armor and walked ahead.

Like playing a "chicken game", the two searched the watchtower from bottom to top, but apart from some old shields, there was nothing valuable to find.

"It looks like the rust monster may have visited here, and the style of these shields is somewhat like the goblins of Dagon."

"Goblin? Here?"

Hope seemed very confused as to why goblins appeared underground.

Dagon's goblin mercenaries and Zom's monster mercenaries are competitors, but the two sides' understanding of each other is limited to combat styles.

"The continent of Khorvaire was once ruled by orcs and goblins, but in ancient times, the alien plane of Seriot, also known as the Kingdom of Madness, once invaded Khorvaire, forcing the rule of orcs and goblins to end."

"It is said that during that period, the major forces of the Goblin Empire took the opportunity to run underground to avoid disaster. Until now, goblins still exist in some underground caves and half-plane dungeons."

"It is said that the mind flayers of Eberron were once residents of the Kingdom of Madness, and their masters, the mutated demons, were sealed into the realm of Khyber by the orc druids of the time."

After briefly introducing the reason why the goblins appeared in the underground world to Hope, Carl sat on the steps and prepared to rest with Hope for a while.

"Then how do you know this is goblin equipment?"

Picked up a shield, Hope looked over and over for a long time, and didn't think it was much different from an ordinary shield.

"Straps! Goblins are divided into ordinary goblins, bear goblins and hobgoblins. In order to adapt to goblins of different sizes, many of the goblin equipment will be made into a structure that can greatly adjust the tightness. This shield strap is like this."

Taking the shield from Hope, Carl showed Hope the strap of the shield.

There are only two buckles on the strap, one of which can barely let a few fingers pass through the buckle, and the other can even let two people's thighs pass through.

This is a feature that only appears on goblin equipment. Humans usually only drill a few more holes on the buckle and let the user adjust it by themselves.

Nodding in understanding, Hope looked up at the standing watchtower.

The construction of the entire watchtower was visibly perfunctory. Even someone like Hope who didn't know much about it could see some redundant designs and unreasonable places.

"In other words, the goblins here may have been passed down thousands of years ago? Then how come this building..."

"It should be a break in civilization, just like a giant."

Standing up again, Carl called Hope to leave the watchtower.

Unknown adventures are still waiting for them.
