American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#4 - The Betrayer - Wallace
Almost the next second, another shot rang out.
This time, the car window shattered, and the flying bullet directly blew the driver's head into a bloody mess. The out-of-control vehicle swerved off the road and skidded a long distance.
"Two snipers, one o'clock, modified high-caliber weapons. Distance is about three hundred meters. There are also three suspicious people approaching. Rat, you three go and take care of them. Newt and I will escort the boss away," Wallace from Becky's team said over the radio from the driver's body. The vehicle in front immediately accelerated, heading towards the one o'clock direction.
The vehicle behind stopped on the right side of Luke Field's car. The modified van, which was a car body taller, acted as a barrier, blocking the sniper's line of sight. The car door was pulled open, and Wallace waved for Luke and Ina to transfer cars.
Luke calmly opened the car door, pressed Ina Sandra's somewhat flustered back, and pushed her and a small silver-white box in her arms into Wallace's car. Then he leaned over and sprinted, and was pulled up by Wallace. The car door closed quickly, and the car quickly left the scene.
"Oh my god, how dare they? Why is this happening?"
Ina Sandra was a little frightened, gripping Luke's hand tightly, her emotions somewhat flustered. Of course, she could be decisive and unfazed in handling affairs, because everything was under her control. But this kind of situation beyond her control was something she had never experienced before.
This forced Luke to devote some energy to comforting her. Although at this moment, his little heart was also pounding in his chest. Although ever since he knew what kind of world this was, he knew that he would have to face this situation sooner or later, and he had done all the preparations he could. But thinking is one thing, preparation is another, and the first time encountering it is still a bit nerve-wracking.
But it was only a little nervous at the beginning.
Now that he had calmed down after getting back in the car, Luke was even able to comfort the panicked Ina Sandra with a relaxed expression. Her sudden panic was rare, as she had always faced others with a confident, calm, and steady demeanor. In the eyes of those familiar with her, it was even a little cute.
A few minutes passed, and Ina Sandra's emotions finally calmed down, and she regained her usual calmness and composure. She first released Luke's hand, smoothed her hair, glanced out the window, and suddenly noticed something was wrong.
"This isn't the route back to Hebron, where are we going?" Ina Sandra frowned.
"To where we should be going," Wallace interjected, and then a gun was pointed at Luke's waist.
"Damn it! Newt, stop the car!" Ina Sandra shouted to Newt in the driver's seat. However, Newt was as deaf and blind, turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to the sounds and events in the back seat, and even reached out to raise the rearview mirror.
"Please be quiet, Ms. Ina? You can't hide the fact that you were attacked for long, so my time is tight and I can't waste it on useless talk," Wallace smiled, "If you don't want your genius boy to be injured or die in front of you, please don't do anything extra, and don't say anything extra, okay?"
"I trusted you so much!" Ina Sandra lowered her voice, as if afraid that if her voice was louder, Wallace would punch Luke Field, who was being held hostage next to her.
"Trust?" Wallace curled his lips: "Trust itself is a very extravagant thing for someone like me."
"Is Newt your man?" Luke asked calmly, despite being held hostage with a gun pointed at his waist. He glanced at Newt, who was silently driving in front.
"That's a difficult question to answer," Wallace shrugged.
"Did you orchestrate this attack? The previous sniper attack was just to lure Rat and the others away, so that Ina and I would take the initiative to get into your car? You shouldn't be the mastermind, who is the mastermind behind you? Someone I offended? There aren't many people in my circle who can order someone like you to risk your life. Could it be Justin Hammer, who has strong connections in the military and enough power and influence? It seems I've only offended him," Luke Field speculated.
"Why can't it be something I wanted to do myself?" Wallace asked with a smile.
"I don't believe that with Ina's rigorous style of doing things, she wouldn't do any background checks when selecting security personnel for me. The reason you were chosen, besides you performing well enough, is that your past resume and personality assessment made her think you were trustworthy," Luke Field sighed.
"I want something, I know you brought it with you today. It's the box in your hand, tell me the password!" Wallace said: "Don't make me work too hard, you are so smart, you must know your ending tonight, please don't suffer before the ending, okay?"
"Hebron Technology's research and development data!" Ina Sandra glared at Wallace.
"That's it, hand it over. I'll give you a quick death," Wallace nodded and smiled politely at Ina Sandra, whose eyes were filled with anger.
"Industrial espionage, I knew it! Did you think you couldn't get what you wanted through normal means, so you took unconventional methods?" Luke Field raised his eyes: "You made multiple preparations from the beginning, you really are an old arms dealer. It seems that the military's contact with Hebron Technology has indeed hit his sore spot.
Stark Industries occupies the high-end market, and he can't get in at all. He can only rely on poaching people to manufacture imitations of Stark Industries' products, relying on promoting one genius after another to imitate Tony Stark to raise the company's value. But again, if there is a genuine product and the price is right, why would anyone want a flawed imitation? Hammer Industries' recent performance hasn't been very good, and it also has to face Hebron, a new competitor who is robbing him of food, and who has succeeded in robbing him. Mr. Hammer is probably already in a state of anxiety, wouldn't he regard my technology as a life-saving straw?"
Wallace was silent.
"This has nothing to do with anyone, Newt and I just want to make some money for retirement. There are buyers on the black market listing to buy your technology, the reward is very high."
"Impeccable. I believe that if there are no accidents, everything will be properly arranged by the person behind you. Even if Hammer Industries finally releases Hebron Technology's technology, and traces it back along the vine, they can only find that it came from the black market, or even Hebron Technology, which was acquired after we lost it. When there are no other options and the benefits are large enough, his connections are enough to quell this suspicion storm. A standard winner-takes-all mentality.
But, Lieutenant Wallace, the premise of all this success is that no accidents happen," Luke Field said.
Wallace instinctively felt that something was wrong, but before he could do anything, his and Newt's limbs in the driver's seat were suddenly bound and tied up as if by an invisible rope. Their hands were forcibly pressed against their thighs, and their whole bodies twitched as they slumped straight in their seats. The car, which had lost its helmsman, swerved back and forth on the ground like a snake for a while, and finally stopped under Luke's control.
"Using my creations to hold me hostage, this is too interesting."
Luke Field, who had crossed back to the back seat from the driver's seat, looked at the Hebron Technology gloves and mechanical boots that Wallace was still wearing on his hands and feet, and couldn't help but laugh.
The successive stimuli and the scene of surviving from desperation made Ina Sandra's brain a little overloaded, but after the car stopped, she finally regained consciousness and, under Luke's stunned gaze, raised her long legs in high heels and kicked Wallace hard in the important part of his male body twice.
"I messed things up." After kicking, Ina Sandra looked at Luke with some shame. Two moles were actually found in the security team she personally selected and formed! One of them was even the captain of the security team! This is simply too absurd!
"Who would have thought? If you ask me, machines are more reliable than people." Luke Field had already decided that once his talent was upgraded again, he would expand and build his own mechanical team! As his creations, those mechanical creations are powerful and loyal!
Ina Sandra couldn't refute this, after all, the final comeback still relied on the products Luke manufactured. Although she didn't know that even without these products, Wallace and the others wouldn't be able to hurt Luke and her. After all, after five years of awakening her talent, Luke had accumulated a batch of good things through the card drawing.
"I'll leave the people to you, help me cause some trouble for that Mr. Justin Hammer. I don't care whether he is the mastermind behind this, he is the most suspicious! Bullying the weak and fearing the strong is not a good character! He doesn't dare to bully Stark, but he dares to cause me trouble, this is not good." Luke Field didn't plan to do anything to Justin Hammer now, after all, if there were no accidents, without him doing anything, this Stark product imitation master wouldn't have much time to jump around.
