American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker

#397 - Surrender, restraint, torture

Bang!

Great sound is soundless.

In an instant, intense light and heat engulfed the entire mothership. Although the hammer didn't hit Steppenwolf, it directly turned his flagship into nothingness.

The energy generated by the collision swept across the surrounding void in an instant, and the fleet guarding the mothership was torn apart under the impact of the energy.

The cosmic area centered on the mothership instantly cleared out a void circle. The broken fragments of the fleet turned into floating garbage and dust in the universe under the impact of the released energy.

A scream filled with rage suddenly transformed into a mental storm from the center of the explosion, sweeping the surroundings. Metal fragments and high-temperature flames were suppressed in an instant.

The huge body of the giant octopus, which was affected for no reason, was shaken away a long distance in the void. Several tentacles thousands of meters long flailed randomly in the void, trying to stabilize its retreating body. Ripples appeared in circles around it, as if providing supporting points and reliance for its buffer.

One tentacle drooped softly, listlessly stirring the surrounding space.

A bolt of lightning zigzagged from afar. As the light dissipated, Thor, wearing a red cloak and clad in armor, appeared on the battlefield.

He stretched out his hand towards the direction of the mothership. The hammer that had caused the explosion, sweeping the fleet group around the Apokoliptian mothership, flew back along the original path under a mysterious summon, and was caught in Thor's outstretched hand.

"You hurt it!" A crisp female voice sounded somewhat dissatisfied in the void. Little Becky pouted, looking unhappy at her injured giant octopus.

Do I feel sorry?

Not really.

But the mood is inexplicably upset.

"Sorry. I'll apologize to it." Thor scratched his scalp with his empty hand, his face a little embarrassed. He hadn't unleashed his full power in battle against an enemy for a long time, and his blood was boiling for a moment, so he impulsively threw the hammer.

Fortunately, he couldn't unleash the full power of this hammer called the Star Vortex Hammer yet, otherwise, let alone this area, even the solar system would have been inevitably affected. This would have been a cataclysmic disaster for the humans there.

"Come out, I know you're not dead yet!" Thor looked towards a certain spot in the void and rushed over excitedly.

Bang!

The head of the Star Vortex Hammer landed on a tilted axe. Steppenwolf, revealing his figure from the void, used the blade of his Apocalypse Axe as a shield to block Thor's attack.

The surging energy erupted, separating the two. Steppenwolf, who was sent flying far away in a disheveled manner, looked warily at Thor, who had an exceptionally strong desire to fight.

"Who are you? Why are you attacking me!" Steppenwolf shouted: "Don't you know what you're doing? Attacking the Apokoliptian fleet will bring destruction to you, your family, and your civilization!"

"If you can, welcome to Asgard!" Thor didn't care about Steppenwolf's threat.

His family and civilization will face destruction?

Except for Loki, whose strength might be a bit weak, Thor didn't think anyone could defeat anyone from the Odin lineage, who had undergone epic enhancements.

"Asgard? It should have been destroyed! I personally buried it!" Steppenwolf widened his eyes in disbelief, but then, as if realizing something, he looked at Thor, who was flashing with lightning, and shouted in sudden realization: "You are an Asgardian from another universe? Controlling lightning, holding a hammer, are you Thor?"

Thor, on the other hand, picked up his hammer and charged up again, eager for a fight.

The figures of the two flickered and moved in the void, and the energy shock waves formed by the collision of their weapons continuously vented into the surrounding void as they moved.

Thor, who was gradually increasing his strength, was indeed having a great time, feeling much more relaxed. On the other side, Steppenwolf's condition was not so good. His mental world had just experienced a severe trauma. Although he had managed to escape, his head was still aching.

As for physical injuries? His New God physique and powerful vitality allowed him to ignore the injuries on his body. No matter how severe the injury, he was difficult to kill and could recover quickly. So, to some extent, he was the least afraid of close combat.

However, Thor in front of him was an anomaly! Each of his attacks was so powerful that it made his whole body tremble, and the lightning that surrounded him at the same time made his body feel weak and numb. Although this feeling was relatively mild, it was enough to make him look precarious in a situation where his strength was already at a disadvantage.

"That's, Steppenwolf?" Superman and the others, who arrived later, saw the two constantly flashing and colliding in the void. They recognized Thor in the lightning, and the person fighting with Thor, whose attire left them with an unforgettable impression.

"Are the Asgardian gods in your world all this powerful?" Diana looked at Stephen, the strange mage who brought them here, with a look of surprise. She knew Thor was strong, but she didn't expect him to be this strong! Steppenwolf, who they thought they would need to work together to fight, was now being suppressed by Thor alone.

Although her strength was not comparable to the two fighting, Diana never lacked combat experience and vision. She could even keep up with Thor's speed and see every detail of the battle clearly. So, she clearly saw Steppenwolf's embarrassment and powerlessness.

"Not all Asgardian gods are powerful." Stephen thought of a certain deceptive mage who relied heavily on equipment and treasures. At least Loki, without equipment, seemed like anyone could bully him. Of course, the fact that Loki's bloodline in their world came from the Frost Giant King Laufey, rather than Odin, might also be a major factor?

"Then is our world safe?" Hal Jordan, encased in green light, asked with a complex and joyful mood.

The complexity came from seeing the powerful enemy they had only driven away by working together being suppressed and beaten by Thor, showing the strength of Luke's lineage while also giving their confidence a heavy blow.

He was already considering whether to unite some people to persuade Bruce to stop trying to find the power to fight against Luke and the others. Their strength had obviously exceeded the specifications they imagined. Everyone was currently cooperating happily, and there was no need to cause some hidden dangers of distrust because of some fears.

To put it bluntly, if Luke really wanted to do something to them, Thanos alone would have been enough to bury them. The reason they survived to the end was because Thanos had achieved his obsession, then gave up resistance and chose self-sacrifice.

What's more, it also attracted the prying eyes and attacks of strongmen from other universes.

"Steppenwolf is just a vanguard." Diana glanced at Hal, reminding him: "What we really need to face in the end is Darkseid behind Steppenwolf, and the New Gods and Apokolips under his control."

"Ah!"

Forced into a desperate situation, Steppenwolf completely abandoned his defense, wielding the Apocalypse Axe in his hand so tightly that no wind could pass through, risking being hit by the hammer that made him feel terrified, exchanging injury for injury, and trying to chop Thor with an axe as well.

The result of the exchange was that Steppenwolf managed to chop his axe onto Thor, and the powerful force contained within the axe, enough to destroy a planet, was released in an instant, directly sending Thor flying.

But his condition was more serious and miserable than Thor's. He felt that all the bones in his body had turned into powder in an instant, and his flesh had become a mass of minced meat. Most of his body directly exploded into a cloud of blood, and the only thing that looked like it still had a shape was his head, as well as a small half of his upper body and an arm that was still tightly gripping the axe handle like a noodle.

Steppenwolf had never been so weak as he was at this moment. His vigorous vitality, invulnerable, strong and tough physique, coupled with his near-immortal characteristics, had given him a great advantage in previous battles, except for a very few people. Even if it was a drag, he was the one standing at the end.

But the power that the hammer erupted was too powerful. It was clearly just a simple bombardment of a hammer, but it had a mass far exceeding that of a star.

Steppenwolf vaguely felt that there was an even more powerful and terrifying force contained within the hammer, but its user had not completely released it. If half of the power inside the hammer erupted, he couldn't guarantee what he would have left, and whether he could really stand firm and not die?

"He's still recovering." Clark watched Steppenwolf's flesh and blood constantly regenerating, restoring his missing limbs, folded his arms, and said with a deep gaze.

Steppenwolf's body was gradually reorganized. In just a moment, his feet reappeared and stepped on the void. Steppenwolf tore off the damaged armor on his body, casually wrapped it around his waist, and his strong muscles gradually supported his body again. The tough skin that was supported was resisting the various rays in the universe. The broken armor turned into golden liquid and began to climb all over his body again.

"I admit defeat!"

While waiting for him to fully recover, the familiar thunder fell from the sky again. Steppenwolf, who had been closing his eyes, shouted out loud.

In his opinion, this battle had entered a boring stage. No matter how he struggled and fought hard, it was bound to be a failed ending.

Failing twice in the same mission, even if he could escape back, what awaited him would inevitably be torture, imprisonment, or death.

His current spiritual will had fortunately gained freedom, so with his nature, or rather with the nature of the entire Apokoliptian New Gods, he was not a life with virtue. He would never be loyal to anyone, but he would bow to the powerful victor.

In essence, he was a speculator!

Just like how he firmly changed his allegiance at the beginning, stood on Darkseid's side, and helped him become the new king of Apokolips all the way, he felt that he had returned to the stage where he needed to bet, without a choice.

The thunder that fell from the sky staggered, winding out a very large arc, and flashed past Steppenwolf's side. Thor, who stabilized his body, turned his head and looked somewhat dissatisfied at Steppenwolf, who was raising his hands and even putting down his axe.

He really wanted to continue warming up and fighting with Steppenwolf, but obviously, the other party didn't want to continue.

"Squeeze it open." Thor, who had only just warmed up in the middle of the fight, threw a black box in a sullen mood and tossed it to Steppenwolf, who had given up resisting.

Steppenwolf reached out and grabbed the box, and squeezed it hard according to Thor's instructions. The seemingly solid black box immediately turned into streams of black liquid, shaping into a black bracelet on Steppenwolf's wrist.

Immediately, Steppenwolf felt the power within his body being suppressed and sealed by another force. He could sense the existence of his power, but found that he could not release his power freely no matter what.

He had now become a strong sandbag with a New God physique. Not to mention Thor, even any one of those losers who were watching him covetously on the other side could bully him without any temper.

This method of prohibition startled Steppenwolf. He tentatively tugged at the black bracelet on his wrist, feeling like he was tugging at his own skin. The other party had become a part of his body. To remove it, it seemed that he had to cut off a part of his body. But Steppenwolf doubted that even if he cut off the limb where the bracelet was, he might not be able to truly escape.

When Thor led him towards the crowd, Steppenwolf had a new judgment in his heart about the strength of this outsider force. They not only had great strength, powerful monsters, but also had incredible technology! After all, just a bracelet could seal the power of a New God. This was not something that ordinary technology could do.

Especially Steppenwolf's keen intuition felt that there was still a certain force lurking in the bracelet that made his heart palpitate. Once he dared to use destructive means to forcibly crack it, that force would erupt immediately. Steppenwolf didn't know what this hidden force was, his intuition only told him that it was very dangerous. Once it erupted, even if he was close to being immortal, he would not be spared.

After all, Steppenwolf knew very well that sometimes living was worse than death.

"Tell us, where are Apokolips and Darkseid?"

When Thor brought Steppenwolf back to the group, Diana couldn't wait to ask. Their original plan was to obtain Darkseid's whereabouts and the location of Apokolips from the next invader, and then collect information and determine the battlefield depending on the situation.

In any case, they were unwilling to have another war break out in their homeland.

Thor and Stephen had no objections to this. They also needed to completely eliminate this trouble once and for all, so Diana's plan was consistent with Stephen's.
