#367 - Experimental Accidents [Part 1]

There's no denying Reed Richards' talent for invention. While other scientists are limited by materials and environment, he has transcended these constraints, researching and realizing technologies that exceed the current world's technological limits.

However, this kind of technology that directly skips many levels inevitably leads to various unforeseen accidents. Even if he has utilized the materials at hand to their fullest extent, the shortest plank in the barrel theory still applies to his inventions.

The technologies he researches can be realized and even manufactured, but they are mostly unstable. The more unimaginable the technology, the greater the chance of this instability. Some are even single-use items, discarded after use.

Of course, more often than not, various accidents occur, leading to all sorts of problems.

You can't tell this from his technical theories, because his technology and theories are always impeccable, leaving no loopholes for anyone listening to find. However, compared to the rigor of the theory and technology, the finished products are immature. Many are like defective products.

But at least they can be used.

As a research invention that transcends the current level of technology, being usable is already quite remarkable.

If he didn't let his imagination run wild and instead worked step-by-step based on the environment, many of his research inventions could influence the world. But he disdains researching those technologies that he considers extremely simple, even lacking in difficulty. He likes challenges, likes researching what he likes, and inventing what he is obsessed with, and he can always successfully manufacture these inventions.

In life, he may be a relatively down-to-earth person, but in scientific research, he is an arrogant dictator.

The only thing limiting him, in his opinion, is not materials or technology, but money!

That's right, he's short on money!

His research is even more short on money!

Each of his proud inventions is a world-crossing technology, but the initial investment costs at least hundreds of millions. With his fame and intellect, he certainly isn't short of offers from large companies, but because his research has caused one company after another to collapse, recruiters have to think long and hard before hiring him.

After all, who wouldn't be afraid of someone who causes every company they join to go bankrupt?

Before Osborn, Doom Industries, which only provided funding and equipment for Reed Richards, directly declined due to an accident. The head of the family, Victor von Doom, disappeared without a trace, and Doom Industries is still in chaos.

Reed Richards also has numerous requirements for his technology, resulting in his reputation being polarized in the industry. Some people can't help but invest in him, while others end up in a mess because of his research.

Even so, Reed has become a love-hate figure in the research circle. Investors no longer want his cross-level technological inventions, they just want him to fix some problems and provide an answer.

In short, Reed can no longer be allowed to freely develop; he needs to be given a specific assignment with a lot of restrictions. Only in this way can his extraordinary, yet impractical, technological desires be curbed.

Reed hates these assignments with so many restrictions that make him uncomfortable, but for the sake of research and life, he has to accept them. Who told him that his research is either too dangerous, difficult to mass-produce and replicate, or impractical and too expensive?

Although this high expenditure, in Reed's view, is already his way of cutting costs as much as possible and reducing them to an infinitely low level. Doesn't he want his products to be stable and mature? The cost doesn't allow it!

So when Osborn Industries extended an olive branch to him, Reed was very grateful. After joining, he was even more grateful for the attention and generous treatment he received. So he can be considered diligent in Osborn Industries.

At least Osborn can always come up with some technical projects that make his eyes light up and refresh his mind. These open-ended assignments with a high degree of freedom are much better than those assignments that make him uncomfortable just looking at them.

Osborn's ability to produce various inventions and technologies in a short period of one year, like a sudden burst, is due in no small part to the contributions of Reed Richards and others, in addition to Harry himself.

Reed felt a kinship with Harry Osborn, who came up with these technologies, but Harry was too busy and rarely met in person. But they were online friends who talked about everything. To this end, the two of them specially created software for internal use to discuss technical issues.

With Osborn in the eye of the storm, coupled with the controversial Reed Richards and others, some people even darkly waited for an accident to happen to Osborn in the early stages, but this time the waiting time was particularly long. Reed had joined Osborn for a full half a year, and not only did Osborn Industries not have an accident, it also had a feeling of thriving.

Today, Osborn Industries has become a technology leader. The number of technologies it has licensed out this year is countless, and the number of wealthy people and companies created as a result is also countless. Batches of enterprises have sprung up like mushrooms after a rain.

It can be said that Osborn Industries almost changed the rules of an entire circle by its own power. Now, if talented young people or powerful but troubled companies don't want to enter Osborn or be acquired by Osborn, as long as they can pass Osborn's assessment and obtain some of its technology patent licenses, they can easily borrow a huge amount of money from major banks and investment institutions. The contracts are very lenient, and now all banks and investors have a blind trust in this model!

As long as Osborn continues to produce new technologies and authorize new technologies, as long as those who obtain technology authorization can successfully convince them in terms of operation, they will be happy to invest a sum of money. If you can rise up later, these rich people will try to invest more money in you.

Everyone is immersed in this miraculous and frenzied atmosphere brought about by Osborn and is unwilling to wake up. The feeling of high-speed sprinting and opportunities everywhere is too wonderful.

But the fact proves that wherever Reed Richards is, there will always be accidents caused by his research. Even if it is temporarily silent, it will eventually arrive, though late.

...

"What is this?" Harry, who received the news, rushed over with his staff, looked at the circle that was covered with the walls of the closed laboratory, like a gate to a hellish other dimension, a swirling, deep black hole, took a deep breath, and asked Reed, who was looking strangely at his side. Many researchers were testing the swirling, deep door with various instruments.

"An accident." Reed rubbed his hands awkwardly and shifted his gaze under Harry's [are you kidding me] gaze. "I'm researching the origin of psionic energy. I think this energy doesn't belong to us, it's a power from some other world dimension. I want to figure it out."

"And then, you summoned this door?"

Harry didn't show the anger that Reed thought he would. This made Reed feel relieved. He still liked working at Osborn, and if Harry Osborn acted like his former employers, he would have to pack up and leave completely. And this time, he had a feeling that if Osborn was affected by him, he would probably say goodbye to the research circle for the rest of his life. No one would invest in him again, and no one would value him so much again. At that time, his identity would be an awkward marginal figure.

When people talked about him, they wouldn't even talk about his cool technological inventions anymore, but would endlessly count how many companies he had dragged down and how many investors had lost their money and had to go bankrupt.

If he had a choice, Reed didn't want this scene to happen at all. So his desire to resolve this accident at the moment was also unprecedentedly strong.

"I think the other side is the world of psionic energy, or at least related to psionic energy. It's very close to us. I think it's worth studying. Of course, it looks a little dangerous." Reed said, looking at the dark gate that looked like the entrance to hell, paused and said. He still wanted to study it, but if Osborn refused, he would have to find a way to close it first.

"How is it going?"

Ignoring Reed, Harry looked at a researcher next to him who was controlling an instrument. He had just sent several Osborn-made drones into the gate.

"The signal is lost." The researcher who was asked looked at the dark screen and shook his head.

"If you want to know what's on the other side of the door, you can send someone to take a look, uh, I mean I'm willing to be that person." Reed raised his hand.

"No, you shouldn't take risks." Susan's cold eyes made Reed lower his hand awkwardly, his lips moved a few times, but he didn't say anything, sighed and took a step back.

"If someone really needs to explore, you won't be the first batch. We have more reliable options. Like security guards and soldiers? Provided that we have to use animals to confirm that there are no fatal dangers on the other side." Harry comforted Reed and the research assistants who were listening attentively.

"This is a very proper method." Susan agreed with Harry's words. She also thought it was better to let animals confirm whether there were any fatal dangers inside the door first. Even if they wanted to go in, they had to be fully prepared and fully armed before entering.

"Do you know what's going on?"

Harry used the symbiote network between symbiotes to ask Harry over there through the symbiote on his body. Could this hollow that looks like a door be a wormhole? And the other side of the wormhole is connected to the world where Harry is.

"No, I don't know what's going on." Harry's voice was repeated in Harry's mind by the symbiote.

"Then do you want to go in and take a look?" Harry asked again.

"There may be danger inside. I remember seeing an intelligence report when I was managing files at the Time Administration. Psionic energy has a dangerous place called the Abyss Dimension. I don't know the more specific information about the Abyss Dimension, but its danger level is unique, the highest level! It can be used to destroy the world and the universe.

If that Dr. Reed is unlucky enough to connect to the Abyss Dimension through psionic energy, then your civilization and world may have no future." Harry hesitated and told a secret intelligence he knew. After all, this door looks like it can give people a great sense of discomfort. The longer you look at it, the greater the emotional fluctuations, and the more impetuous you become, breeding more negative emotions.

Harry's heart tightened, and just as he was about to ask something else, an anxious and panicked voice suddenly sounded, turning his attention back from Harry's side.

"Its energy index is rising, it's getting bigger!" The researcher in charge of using the instrument to observe the door pointed to the [door] that was beginning to surge like clouds and fluctuate violently in the closed laboratory.

Everyone looked at it at the same time, and the door was indeed growing at a speed visible to the naked eye. At this speed, the door would be connected to the ceiling in less than ten minutes. Would it stop then or..., no one could be sure.

"Evacuate the crowd, let people evacuate the industrial area first." Harry said decisively.

Hearing Harry's order, everyone was busy and began to pack up experimental data and data backups. Reed looked at all this with a complicated expression. He felt like he had messed up again.

...

The abnormality in the Osborn Industrial Zone quickly attracted the attention of the outside world. Although Osborn said nothing and only used accident drills as an excuse, this could not convince everyone.

And when two pictures circulating from inside Osborn appeared on the Internet, speculations began to be unstoppable one after another.

The first one was a rotating hole that occupied a room and looked like it could absorb people's souls, overflowing with black mist; the second one was still the same hole, but the hole was occupied by a huge golden pupil. The detailed blood color and the eyes with a strong sense of madness in the pupil made many people with weak minds fall into panic and horror just by looking at it. And this crazy look was deeply imprinted in their minds and could not be erased.

Of course, these two pictures were quickly deleted from the Internet, but there were not a few people who saw these two pictures, which still caused a commotion and official inquiries.

"What is that? Is it a creature from the opposite world?" Reed frowned slightly as he looked at the blurred picture. The eye seemed to have a strong emotional contagion. Every life that saw it would be dominated by the emotions it contained. Several security guards had already fallen into a state of mental breakdown and madness.

"That's a beast weapon infused with psionic energy." Harry, who got a possible answer from Harry, said with a headache.
