American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#347 - Ancient Gods
Arcane, Fel, Holy Light, Shadow, Life, Death.
The six high-dimensional powers of this world.
Inside the Dragon Tower, Held looked at the six phantoms hanging before her eyes like moons, her gaze deep and profound.
Among the six phantoms, the light representing Arcane and Holy Light was the most solid, almost condensing into a gem. This indicated that Held's mastery of these two energies had reached an extremely high level.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call her the monarch of both.
The slightly dimmer lights represented Fel and Shadow, and the dimmest were Life and Death.
However, Held didn't care about the latter two. When necessary, she had sufficient methods to seize and condense the rules of life and death.
Within the light, there were vaguely discernible illusory figures hidden. Especially Holy Light and Arcane, like amber encasing something. Looking closely, one was a humanoid figure with six wings, and the other was a turtle-like creature.
These two patterns were also the clearest.
Representing Shadow was a peculiar monster resembling a slender, long wild boar with tusks.
"The collection of energy is too slow."
Seeing that the pattern representing Shadow was hazy, always just an illusion, Held sighed slightly. Holy Light was fine, after all, it had the accumulated foundation of the Holy Light Cathedral. Held easily gained control over these unowned energies.
Arcane energy was also simple. She just needed to occupy the Well of Eternity or the Sunwell, and with her magical knowledge, she could easily maximize her authority over all mages.
Fel currently only had the Skull of Gul'dan as a collector, and at times, she needed some powerful demons as consumable materials.
But Shadow, although collected through the dark Naaru and apostle memes using the illusion of Dirigi, was more difficult than other energies. Because behind this energy, too many authorities were involved.
And Held couldn't really destroy this valuable world completely like the Burning Legion.
Destruction wasn't difficult. She just needed to stop maintaining the balance between Plague and Holy Light, let the Plague spread out wantonly, and then sacrifice the lives of the entire world. The collection of Shadow would leap forward, becoming the most outstanding energy she held.
But that was meaningless.
If relying on plunder and destruction, Luke wouldn't find it difficult to do. What's difficult is how to subtly transfer the authority of this world and this universe without destroying more.
This was a delicate task.
And as the implementer, Held had to consider this point.
Fortunately, she wasn't without backup options.
Medivh, or the Old Gods?
Held pulled up two phantoms.
One represented Fel, and the other represented Shadow.
In terms of difficulty, it seemed better to find Medivh first. But he seemed to have some precognitive ability. After her arrival, he disappeared and hid.
Even the mage tower on Deadwind Pass had become desolate.
He was hiding from her.
Held realized this immediately.
If the other party, who had mastered the Guardian and Sargeras's hidden power, was determined to hide his tracks, it would be a bit troublesome for Held to search him out for a while.
Even her time-line observation, which she was extremely familiar with, didn't find any useful information. Moreover, the time authority here wasn't in her hands. Although she could forcibly observe and use it, using this power in any world would bring some trouble.
Like those bronze dragons who maintain the timeline?
As creatures with high affinity, Held still wanted to catch one and keep it as a pet. But they were slippery and elusive. After suffering a loss in her hands once, they tried their best to interfere with and obstruct her observation when she observed time, using their own authority and ability over time.
So what was placed before Held's eyes seemed to be only another option.
Old Gods!
Compared to the elusive Medivh, finding the sealed places of these Old Gods would be much easier. What's more, one of them was even trying to use power to influence and infect her.
Although it was unconscious, Held still felt offended and locked onto the coordinate location of the other party's power.
As long as she could obtain the power of one Old God, the beacon could be completely stabilized. Even if she couldn't occupy this world in a short time afterward, it wouldn't have much to do with her.
She had completed her task! When the time comes, she could search for the hiding Agatha through the soul lock connection to complete the complement.
……
Ahn'Qiraj Temple.
A huge rocky nest palace.
Without alarming any external barriers or alerts, a tall portal opened.
Hordes of orcs rushed out of the portal, wielding their weapons. Following the hundreds of orcs, Held, completely wrapped in a cloak, walked out last.
"High Priest!" Grommash, carrying his Gorehowl giant axe, bowed slightly.
"You are responsible for clearing the way ahead, don't let anyone disturb my spellcasting." Held reminded Grommash. This place was guarded by the bronze dragons and night elves. Once they noticed something was wrong, they would definitely swarm in to check it out.
Held didn't want to have any contact with them for the time being.
Inside the rocky palace, there was a rustling sound of densely packed insects crawling in the shadows. Under everyone's observation, lines of insects composed of worms like ants appeared and disappeared in the light and shadow of the tunnel.
Held ignored these insects and went straight to the sealed place she sensed. As she moved, all the surrounding insects spontaneously avoided a large space, as if Held was something that made them feel fear.
The insects couldn't be killed completely.
Once a conflict was initiated with these insects, it would create a big commotion beforehand, which might bring some trouble to her trip. So Held had no intention of attacking these insects at all. She just used her magical ability to deter and drive away these insects.
Of course, if there were insects that could withstand this pressure and even dared to attack her, then it would be Grommash and Ner'zhul's turn to solve them.
A sealed door with the power of time flowing around it soon appeared in front of her eyes. The seal on it was firm and ingenious. This was the power gathered by the bronze dragons.
Held touched the sealed door, closed her eyes, and carefully felt the energy flow on the door. If it were other mages, it might be difficult to unlock this sealed door silently without alarming the bronze dragons, but for Held, who was also proficient in the power of time, it wasn't difficult to do this, it just took a little time.
The power of time dissipated like a tide under Held's will, revealing the huge black and heavy stone door behind it. Grommash led his tribe to take the lead and forcefully pushed open this heavy stone door for Held.
In the slight rumbling sound, the stone door was pushed open to both sides, revealing a long staircase.
Grommash and the orcs carefully went down the stairs in the light of magic. Before coming, they had all learned from their high priest what kind of place this was and what kind of danger it possessed.
The monster imprisoned here might be more terrifying and troublesome than the dragon of the Scourge.
This alone was enough to make them careful. They weren't afraid of facing strong enemies, but they wouldn't be reckless and careless when they knew the other party's strength.
No one knew better than them how serious the consequences of recklessness and carelessness were when facing strong enemies. It was the distance between life and death.
Their eyes soon became wide open. This was a huge cave-like stone chamber. It had traces of artificial carving, but most of it had natural roughness and magic.
The dim cave had humid water vapor, and there was also some unpleasant, smoky smell like a collection of rotten creatures that rushed into the nostrils.
A cold force swept across their strong bodies like a cold wind. Suddenly, some kind of coldness and fear grew from the deepest part of Grommash's heart. And like insect bites, it bit their inner courage and fighting spirit little by little into emptiness.
The magic light source in Held's hand hung high in the cave like a small sun, allowing Grommash and the others to finally see the appearance of this cave clearly.
Its surroundings were hard rock walls. At the bottom of the stairs, it was covered with black groundwater. An underground lake was in the center of the cave. The lake water was dark and gloomy, like stagnant, rotten water.
At the top of the cave, the sun-like light ball sprinkled warm light on Grommash and the others, dispelling the coldness in their hearts and constantly improving their state and strength.
"High Priest, do you need us to help you lure it out?" Grommash looked around, and finally his gaze fell on the black lake surface with a strong ominousness. In his opinion, the target this time should be hiding under this lake. As long as it was lured out, the battle could begin.
"No, that lake is filled with the power of shadow, it is not something you can deeply contact." Held shook her head and rejected Grommash's proposal. She could see that this lake had even been polluted to the point that it had been completely replaced by the power of shadow.
Without enough strength and resistance, rashly contacting this highly concentrated power of shadow, even the will would probably be corrupted and distorted.
The Old God sealed here was obviously still asleep, otherwise, probably at the first moment after they lifted the seal and came in, he would control those shadow powers to attack them, corrupt and distort them. Instead of being so calm and peaceful as it is now.
However, Held didn't mean to personally go down and wake up the other party. Although these shadow powers had little effect on her, just like clean people wouldn't easily go to play diving in rotten water, she wouldn't easily go down and face the Old God face to face in the power of shadow.
But not going down doesn't mean that the other party can't be awakened. These lakes filled with, or rather, have already been formed by the power of shadow, can already be said to be part of the extension of this Old God's power. As long as these lakes composed of shadow powers are shaken, then these lakes used as senses can awaken the sleeping Old God.
So in the next moment, Held increased the output of Holy Light power.
The light ball hanging at the top of the cave shone brightly at this moment, illuminating every corner of the cave clearly, without any shadows left.
The warm light shone on people, and even had a heat that made people feel their souls were scorching.
As an energy opposite to the power of shadow, the shadow lake almost instantly boiled like boiling water, steaming up from the earlier gradual heating up.
The calm lake surface began to roll, and the sizzling sound of burning rang in the closed cave.
The water level of the shadow lake began to drop continuously. Although the rate of decline was slow and insignificant compared to the total amount of lake water, for the sleeping Old God below, it was like a red-hot soldering iron that suddenly pressed on his body through his clothes.
That pain and discomfort immediately woke it up sleeping under the lake.
Rumble!
The cave obviously began to tremble slightly, and fine gravel and dust fell from the top of the cave with the shaking stone wall. Feeling the trembling of the ground under their feet, Grommash and other orcs couldn't help but clench the weapons in their hands, as if only in this way could their courage and fighting spirit be more intense and high-spirited.
"Who woke me up!"
"……I woke up again……"
"……I felt the fading of the power of the seal. Did my servants open the seal?……"
A strong mental storm mixed with murmurs containing madness resounded in the hearts of the orcs present. Just hearing these sounds, one could feel the chaos and madness in them. People whose mental will was not strong enough would probably be instantly corrupted by the power contained in this voice, and then their spirits would collapse, and they would become puppet-like creatures.
Held's Holy Light protected Grommash and the others.
In the next moment, from the rolling and boiling lake, huge tentacles protruded, they meandered to the top of the cave, and fell on the lake surface again, supporting a huge body on the water.
Grommash looked at the ugly and terrifying behemoth in front of him. Just looking at it, he seemed to have suffered some unknown strong impact.
That was a behemoth like an octopus, with large and small edges and thorns and open and closed eyeballs on its body and tentacles. On its huge head, above the big mouth full of bone spurs, there was also a particularly large giant eyeball.
Old God - C'Thun, the Thousand-Eyed Demon.
It was also Held's ultimate goal this time.
"……Annoying energy……You deserve to die……"
The chaotic and crazy whispers echoed in the cave, and the blazing [sun] above the cave obviously made C'Thun feel uncomfortable and mad.
