American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#294 - Infinite Series: Do as the Other Does
"Ah!"
Carol's painful scream echoed in the night, and Wonder Woman, entangled by Lingsing, looked towards Carol in surprise.
Carol, bound by the rope, leaned forward, like a shrimp bent backward, her head raised, her long hair flying in the night wind like seaweed with the chaotic energy.
Behind her was a figure hidden in a dark cloak, strands of purple energy being drawn from Carol's back into the hands of the person who suddenly appeared. A faint, dazzling purple gem gradually materialized in the other person's hand as the energy surged from Carol's body.
"Damn it!" Diana threw the sword in her hand upwards, catching the blade as it fell, and stepped forward like throwing a javelin, her body stretched like a drawn bow, releasing the sword.
"Meow!" Lingsing seized the opportunity and clawed Diana's back. The blood-red energy imbued its attack with burning and amplifying power, the blood-red flames burning fiercely on Diana's back as if they would never be extinguished.
"Damn it!" The Red Lantern Corps member who had successfully ambushed also cursed inwardly, a surge of blood-red energy slamming towards the flying sword.
The penetrating force of the sword tip, propelled by great strength, broke through the Red Lantern Corps member's fist, piercing deeply into it and lodging in the bone.
Immediately following was Diana's rapid and torrential attack.
The shield struck heavily on his nose, then cleaved downwards, knocking the device from his hand. Her other free hand grabbed the hilt of the sword embedded in his arm, and her long, shapely leg kicked heavily into his chest, sending him flying. The sword stuck in his bone was also pulled out by Diana.
Then, Diana, unable to press her advantage, turned her body on the ground with her right foot as the center, using the shield to meet a pair of blood-red claws.
Lingsing, now inflated with energy, was like a blood-red cheetah, its whole body filled with the power of the Red Lantern, as if wrapped in a turtle shell.
Its seemingly small body was amplified by the power of the Red Lantern to the size of a giant, with immense strength. So much so that even Diana needed to be serious to parry it.
In addition to the pure power and the troublesome Red Lantern energy, Lingsing's agility and dexterity as a cat were also frighteningly amplified, making it almost impossible to see its figure when it attacked. The more complex the terrain, the more difficult it became to deal with.
In a short moment, Diana used her shield to block at least ten of Lingsing's attacks.
Carol, who had been drained of a large amount of energy, slumped to the ground. Beside her was the device that Diana had knocked to the ground and had not had time to pick up. The dissipated energy hovered around the device for a while before窜back into Carol's body, merging with the energy within her.
"Pick it up!" Diana launched several quick attacks in succession, forcing Lingsing back a distance, and seizing the opportunity, she turned her head and shouted to Carol, who was still in a daze. Under Lingsing's torrential attacks and entanglement, she had unknowingly left Carol's side in the battle. With a wave of her hand, she summoned back the rope that had bound Carol, wrapping it around her forearm.
In this gap, Lingsing, who had been forced back, rushed up again before Diana could do more. The previous exchange had made it realize Diana's strength and difficulty, especially her equipment, which was not an ordinary weapon and still caused pain and damage to its energy-protected body. Fortunately, it was not the only Red Lantern warrior on the field. As long as it relied on its agility to entangle Diana, its partner would naturally be able to pick up the device again and continue the unfinished plan.
And Diana also saw this. She wanted to get the device in her hands, but Lingsing was indeed entangling and delaying her. Its attacks could not be ignored. She could use her strength to defeat it, but if Lingsing relied on its agility to pester and harass her, the time for this victory would be uncertain.
Fortunately, Carol had been awakened by her shout, and subconsciously grabbed the nearby device, the remaining energy in her body enveloping her in a layer of energy armor. Although it was only a thin layer, the energy intensity was not less than that of the Red Lantern warriors on the field.
And she was not a delicate woman with no strength to her name. In the previous conflict with Diana, Carol had demonstrated a certain degree of fighting ability. Although it was very immature compared to a master like Diana who was proficient in various fighting techniques, there was not much to ask for at the moment.
The Red Lantern Corps warrior who had been kicked away by Diana, hidden in the dark, rushed out, lunging towards Carol, who was soaring into the sky, like a madman, two beams of purple and red light chasing each other back and forth in the night sky.
Diana seized the opportunity and threw the lasso in her hand. The rope, as if alive, wound into a circle in the air, binding Lingsing, whose control over its body had been somewhat lacking due to Diana's powerful blow, tightly. Its limbs were even tied with complex and secure knots to prevent Lingsing from breaking free quickly.
The rope had sunk deeply into the energy layer, as if deeply embedded in the prey's subcutaneous fat, shrinking as Lingsing's body shrank, leaving no room for it to escape.
"You just stay here for a while, little kitty." Diana playfully squatted down and tapped Lingsing, who was struggling on the ground like a fish out of water, ignoring its red pupils burning with anger in the dark night. She stood up, determined her direction, and sprinted quickly towards the area where Carol's energy was fluctuating.
In any case, she had to ensure Carol's safety. At least the safety of that energy within her body.
...
"How surprising, has this place become a Green Lantern base? Without the Green Lantern battery, what are you relying on to maintain your power?" Atrocitus looked sensitively towards the several streaks of green light streaking over in the distance, sensing the energy he hated from them. It was Green Lantern energy.
As the Guardians' armed force, if they wanted to take revenge on those little blue men, they first had to break through the protection of the Green Lantern Corps. So the Green Lanterns had always been the Red Lantern Corps' hypothetical enemy. They even knew the weaknesses of their own power better than the Green Lanterns did.
For example, Atrocitus had painted his battle suit yellow, knowing very well the Green Lanterns' deficiencies and weaknesses. But for now, the yellow effect didn't seem to have much effect on the Green Lantern in front of him, or rather, not enough.
But it didn't matter. Although the power of the Red Lantern was not as versatile as that of the Green Lantern, it was also an upper-level power in the emotional spectrum. In terms of pure destructive power and lethality, the Red Lantern was not inferior to any of the seven Lanterns.
Hal was excellent, but there was still a bit of a gap compared to him, especially after he had been enhanced by Thanos and regained his composure.
"Why serve Thanos! He is an invader who has come to invade our universe! He is collecting the energy of the seven Lanterns to attract more enemies." Hal dodged a blood-red hound's pounce in a mess. This red energy was simply like a bone-attached maggot. Once it was contaminated, it would start to burn like a flame, and the material was its own energy and everything else.
To extinguish it, one had to pay more energy or cut off a part of the energy.
This made Hal's combat energy consumption extremely large. He didn't even dare to engage in the unrestrained and fierce energy collision with the other party as before until he had figured out a way to fight against the Red Lantern power.
He had suffered a loss!
"What does that have to do with us?" Atrocitus coldly said as he separated out blood-red hounds to compress Hal's activity space.
"You Green Lanterns, brainwashed by those Guardians, think you are the guardians of the universe, but in reality? They don't trust you and are also guarding against you. The current me doesn't care about the future of this universe. My family, my people, have already died under the Guardians' evil deeds. The me who is alive is just a spirit of revenge."
"How could that be? There must be some misunderstanding! The Guardians established the Green Lantern Corps to maintain the stability and order of the universe!" Hal tried to continue communicating with Atrocitus while dodging the attacks of the blood hounds.
"Naive and pathetic one! How do you think the Green Lantern's weakness of fearing yellow came about? Was it innate to the Green Lantern? No, it was because those so-called Guardians were afraid that you Green Lanterns would lose control and harm their rule, so they deliberately created it!" Atrocitus scoffed at Hal's words, mocking him.
"The Great Heart is a great invention. It created the Green Lantern Corps and enabled people to use the power of the emotional spectrum. The Green Lantern should have been balanced and perfect, but the Guardians feared you, so they did one thing: they threw the fear-representing entity Parallax into the core of the Green Lantern battery. This forced the Green Lantern entity Ion to divide a large amount of power to suppress Parallax, and also made the Green Lantern's power ineffective when facing yellow. Think about it, what color is most abundant in the place where the Oans live? They are not the cosmic saints you imagine. Maintaining the stability and order of the universe?" Atrocitus spat. "They are the biggest destroyers of cosmic order and stability! Without them, the universe would have at least half as many big troubles."
"Even if what you say is true, but they have all been killed by Thanos." Hal could feel that what Atrocitus said was likely true. Although he couldn't accept it in his heart, he still wanted to reverse Atrocitus's and their thinking.
"So, the master is the savior! Isn't he?" Atrocitus had a fanatical expression. "Instead of handing this universe over to a rotten product like the Guardians to manage, it's better to hand it over to another more trustworthy strongman, isn't it?"
"But he is an invader, an outsider from another universe!" Hal shouted.
"What does it matter? Invasion exists in this universe every moment. Just like the Guardians at that time, and like us who now belong to the Red Lantern Corps." Atrocitus detonated the blood hounds around Hal, and the boiling energy swallowed the surroundings, engulfing Hal's tenacious green light.
...
"Anything you want to say?"
Batman asked the man sitting in the corner, looking at the battle scenes displayed on the screen as big as a wall. Only they and a big boy named Barry were here now. Aquaman Arthur and the other Green Lanterns had all gone out to support Superman and the others.
"What are you referring to?" Captain Steve Rogers, sitting upright in the corner, asked in response.
"Energy, battle, situation." Wayne said, wearing the battle suit.
"No need to beat around the bush, you want to ask if I have a way to deal with those red energies, right?" The captain said bluntly.
"If that Luke is as smart as you say, and the energy is similar to our emotional spectrum here, he should have created similar energy equipment, right?" Wayne also stated it clearly.
"Of course, I have seen it. Energy that represents anger, revenge, and violence. It is violent and restless, and its erosion and influence on people's emotions are very serious. A veteran with a will as firm as mine became its slave after obtaining that power. But I don't know which power red represents here. Just like the Green Lantern here represents firm will and courage, while Luke's energy representing courage and trust is golden yellow." The captain spread his hands.
"It's anger and revenge." Wayne said, obtaining real-time information from the front line, turned around and looked at the captain in the corner, and asked softly: "How did that Luke solve that out-of-control person?"
"Emotional restraint." The captain was silent for a moment, and under Wayne's gaze, he still gave the answer.
"Emotional restraint?" Wayne chewed the captain's answer in his mouth and murmured softly.
"The other party used another emotion to suppress negative emotions such as anger and revenge, and awakened the spirit and will of the out-of-control person." The captain said slowly. He was the eyewitness and blocker of Frank's loss of control. He also fully witnessed the other party's loss of control, tyranny, and subsequent peace and calmness.
A person who was so difficult to deal with after losing control after wearing the ring was easily awakened and restrained by Luke.
"What emotion?" Wayne didn't think that the other party's experience could be fully useful, but it could be used as a reference.
"Serenity Blue!" The captain said softly, and before Wayne continued to ask, he took the initiative to answer: "It is calmness and tranquility! It can forcibly suppress all emotions of people, so that they maintain absolute calmness and tranquility. Under this emotion, anyone can control their emotions well and maintain their will."
"I don't know if it's useful, but if you can, you can try it. The absolute calmness and tranquility represented by Serenity Blue has a very obvious suppression and weakening effect on negative emotions."
