American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker

#289 - Infinity Series: Green Lantern

"We need to have another good talk."

Inside the Batcave, Wayne looked at Captain America with a serious expression. Beside him was a flustered and pale Hal Jordan, and Superman Clark, with his arms crossed.

Some time had passed since the end of the great battle. These days, Wayne had been busy with the reconstruction of Gotham and disaster relief, among other troublesome matters. As the heir to Gotham's wealthiest corporation, he inevitably had to meet many people and handle many affairs during this time.

It wasn't until today that Wayne finally found the time to have an in-depth discussion with their small team.

"What do you want to know?" Captain America rubbed his face with his hand and calmly asked from his seat. He knew that with Wayne's suspicious and somewhat schizophrenic personality, this conversation was bound to happen sooner or later, so he was very calm when it came.

"Everything! But before we begin, I would like you to introduce the person who suddenly appeared that day." Wayne didn't use any psychological interrogation methods, because through contact and understanding, he knew very well that these methods were useless against Captain America. The other party's will was extremely strong, and he also possessed that magical and powerful ring. Without the influence of other energies, pure psychology and interrogation methods were useless unless the other party wanted to talk, otherwise, he was immune to those methods.

Fortunately, Captain America had been very cooperative so far.

"I heard you call his name when he appeared, was it Thanos?" Wayne actively guided the topic.

"To be precise, that's just his alias. His real name is Thanos. He is a powerful being in our universe, and also a completely insane madman." Captain America corrected Wayne's information.

"Madman?" The three of them exchanged glances. Although Thanos seemed a bit overbearing, a madman...

"I don't know much about him. Everything I know comes from the information obtained from another universe's version of us. These things are a bit complicated to explain, so I'll try to focus on the main points.

"Our universe's Thanos believes that the disorderly expansion of life will consume a large amount of cosmic resources, eventually leading the universe into a state of insolvency. He believes that this situation must be curbed. So he adheres to a philosophy of eliminating half of the life on a planet.

"Whether it's dignitaries or ordinary civilians, or the lowest classes, all lives are treated equally and given a fair execution. He attacked many civilizations in this brutal way.

"But he realized that the power of an individual was too weak. He couldn't save more civilizations and lives through killing. Until he learned a secret from the beginning of the universe's birth." Captain America smiled bitterly, organized what he knew in his mind, and said calmly.

"Indiscriminately killing half of the people?" Hal and the others were shocked by the information Captain America provided. Although Wayne's expression was calm, the subtle expressions on his face still showed his inner turmoil.

"What secret?" Wayne pressed.

"The Infinity Stones!" Captain America answered straightforwardly.

"What are those?" Hal couldn't help but ask.

"The Infinity Stones are the embodiment of the rules that were born at the beginning of the universe, similar to your Emotional Spectrum entities or constructs? They are divided into Time, Space, Reality, Soul, Power, and Mind. Gathering all six grants unimaginable power. For example, fairly killing half of the life in the universe and keeping it within a certain limit for self-adjustment," Captain America explained.

"Did he do it?" Superman also interjected.

"He didn't do it." Captain America's words made the three of them subconsciously relax a little, but the following words made their expressions tense again: "However, another universe's version of him did."

"Another universe?" This was the second time Hal had heard this information from Captain America.

"You can think of it as a parallel universe, a multiverse. Anyway, there's more than one universe in our understanding."

"Back to the question, how do you know that another universe's version of him did it? Do your universes still have contact?" Wayne's thoughts were a bit complex.

"No, it's because after Thanos in their universe achieved his goal, he destroyed the stones to prevent anyone from using them to subvert his achievements. Later, the version of us in that universe came up with some kind of quantum tunnel method to travel through time. But there might have been a slight accident during the process. They didn't return to a specific timeline in their universe, but came to our universe.

"Luke provided them with a solution, but unexpectedly, our universe's Thanos learned of their news and used their technology to return to their original timeline with them for some purpose. In the end, we went back to help and solve it together," Captain America shook his head.

"In other words, he's your enemy," Hal concluded.

"But he said he came to bring Steve home," Wayne looked at Captain America.

"Everything I said is true. He was sealed and restricted by Luke's technology. Something might have happened, or some conditions allowed Luke to release him. But he feels a bit unfamiliar to me. He's not quite like the Thanos I remember. But it's also possible that I never really understood Thanos," Captain America knew that Wayne was still skeptical of the information he provided. This suspicion wasn't necessarily directed at him personally.

"Excuse me, I'd like to ask, who is Luke?" Superman raised his hand.

"A researcher, someone who solves problems for us!" Captain America took a deep breath and covered his head with a headache: "Of course, he's also a creator of big trouble. But he can always control those troubles within a balance with his technology and methods. This ring on my hand, and those energy collecting devices, all came from Luke. And it was early Luke."

"What about his character? You once said that you just wanted to go home, and he sent such a troublesome person. Is his goal really just to take you home?" Wayne questioned.

Captain America opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but thinking of Luke's character, he decided to remain silent. In his opinion, Luke was generally easy to talk to. If you had any problems and found him, he would spare some time to solve them along the way. But all of this had a premise, which was that your interests aligned with his.

What did Luke care about?

Energy!

According to the information revealed by Nick Fury and others when they communicated with him, Luke's pursuit of energy over the years was persistent, firm, and unstoppable. You always thought his energy was enough, but Luke's experiments always told you that energy was never enough.

Science is science, but the trial and error cost of turning science into technology is quite high.

At least, according to what Nick and Stark knew, the early consumption of Luke's experiments had increased from city-level electricity to planet-level, and then to the energy of one or two solar system standard stars for one experiment. Later, according to his latest information, Luke's energy expenditure for experiments had increased to the standard galactic level, and this was only the consumption of one or two experiments.

In the envious and jealous words of Nick and Stark, Luke's experimental consumption and expenditure would sooner or later increase to the single universe level! Compared to spending money and resources on experiments, hundreds of Starks and all the giants in Midgard combined were nothing compared to Luke. Even compared to the group of researchers under Luke's command at Hephaestus, they were all younger brothers.

Under this huge consumption of energy and resources, Luke was bound to span to the multiverse, and after Luke learned about special universes like Bruce's that had emotional energy, he would definitely not give up.

The only difference was the means used.

Based on Captain America's understanding of Luke, the other party generally didn't bother to destroy life, as long as there were no obstacles in the way. Luke's most common method was cooperation and win-win. But the premise was that you either had the corresponding strength or actively cooperated.

Wayne and the others...

Captain America couldn't help but feel a headache when he thought of the other party's character.

"So, the choice has come, is your camp on your side, or on our side?" Wayne asked the question that struck to the soul.

"Can't we coexist peacefully? Things aren't as bad as you think, Bruce." Captain America spread his hands helplessly: "Trust me, Luke isn't a crazy person, he can be talked to and negotiated with. You don't need to treat him as an enemy.

"Trust me, that's not a good idea."

"Your credibility has decreased, Steve. I'm willing to believe your words, but I must be prepared for the worst! Tell me your choice," Wayne asked.

"I will stand with you until I leave this universe," Captain America hesitated for a moment and said. In terms of camp, he would definitely stand on Luke and his universe's side, there was no doubt about that. But if something really happened because of Thanos when he left, then as a member of the temporary team here, he would also provide some help within his ability. After all, he was also skeptical of Thanos, the powerful madman.

"Not the answer I wanted, but it's very in line with your character." Wayne wasn't surprised by Captain America's choice. Leaving aside Captain America's character, he had also deeply researched that energy, and could only say that people who could obtain that energy and greatly enhance their strength would inevitably be influenced by the energy. The only difference was that people with strong wills could maintain their bottom line, control themselves, or their personalities were extremely compatible with the energy they used.

"I'd like to ask, can you still contact him? What is he going to do after he leaves this planet?" Hal asked. They thought that after Thanos solved the Yellow Lantern's Parallax entity, he was going to chase after Sinestro, who had escaped. But now that he thought about it, the other party didn't seem to need to track Sinestro. After all, the Yellow Lantern's entity, Sinestro's source of energy, had fallen into the other party's hands. Could he still be afraid of Sinestro, the original owner of the Yellow Lantern entity, competing with him?

Suddenly, as if he had been enlightened, Hal thought of a terrifying possibility. He looked at Wayne and the others in horror, "Do you remember what he said when he left?"

Wayne, Clark, and Captain America all turned their gazes to Hal, who had not yet fully recovered physically and mentally and was pale.

"He said there were six more! Damn it, doesn't he still want the energy of other Lantern Corps?" Hal hadn't thought in this direction before, because in his understanding, he felt that this idea was too absurd, but after listening to Steve's words today, he couldn't help but think of this idea inexplicably, as if something was guiding him to think in this direction.

"Green Lantern?" Wayne and the others were already very clear about Hal's affiliation, and knew about the existence of the Green Lantern Central Power Battery through Hal. Thinking of the Yellow Lantern Central Power Battery that had already fallen into Thanos's hands, everyone's expressions changed for a moment.

According to Hal, the Green Lantern Central Power Battery, as the Guardians' most important source of energy for recruiting Green Lanterns and maintaining cosmic stability and peace, its importance was beyond doubt. Once Thanos came to ask for it, the Guardians would naturally not hand it over, and a conflict between the two was inevitable. Although Hal said how powerful the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps were, they had never seen them, but they had personally seen and experienced Thanos's power.

"I must upload all the information here to Green Lantern Headquarters," Hal said to Wayne decisively. He couldn't care about anything else now.

Faced with Hal's firm gaze, Bruce Wayne, who had always resisted leaking information, finally nodded after a moment of silence.

Hal left in a hurry, rushing back to Oa at full speed under the guidance of the Green Lantern ring.

Wayne didn't stop Hal, who was determined to leave. He also felt that it was necessary to spread the news about Thanos widely now. And the Guardians' forces were an orderly force that could be won over, and could be cooperated with and used as reinforcements when necessary.

As for the officials on the planet?

Thinking of the weakness of those technological weapons during the great battle, Wayne directly cut off this idea. While waiting for Hal to return, Wayne devoted all his energy, except for the time that had to be spent, to studying Thanos's weaknesses and the weaknesses of emotional energy.

He thought that Hal would be gone for a long time this time, but he didn't expect that Hal would return to the fortified base after a few days with a group of people.

"Oa is gone."

This was Hal's first sentence after seeing Bruce and the others.

"Thanos went to Oa and asked the Guardians to hand over the Green Lantern Central Power Battery. The Guardians and the stationed Green Lantern Corps fought to the death, but still couldn't stop him from obtaining the Green Lantern Central Power Battery. He absorbed the Green Lantern entity from the Green Lantern Central Power Battery. Killed the Green Lanterns who stood in his way, and destroyed Oa directly to stop the pursuers.

The Green Lantern Corps, gone!"

Hal said dejectedly.
