#279 - Ring and Bat: Behind the Scenes [Part 1]
Wayne's expression could no longer maintain its composure.
"Scarecrow," he said, sounding somewhat powerless. The fear that the opponent wielded possessed a powerful erosive quality, capable of dredging up even the fears he thought he had overcome from the depths of his mind and amplifying them. Until he found a way to counter this ability, Wayne couldn't think of how to defeat him.
"What about you? Can your power help me escape the influence of his ability? What do you control? What does this energy require to be controlled by others?" Wayne glanced at Rogers and asked softly.
“Me? According to the classification of energy, what I control belongs to positive emotions.” Rogers raised his arm, the ring on his finger shining with a gentle bright yellow light.
"Courage, trust. It can also be unity and justice. It doesn't have a strict definition. To master them, you must have a strong will, even if it is biased or wrong, as long as it is firm and powerful enough, you can gain the favor of some kind of energy.
But you must be careful with it. While embracing and accepting it, you must always be vigilant. While it brings you great power, it will also subtly influence you. Because this influence is very in line with your behavior and cognition, sometimes even if you notice it, you won't pay too much attention to it. Then its influence on you will become deeper and deeper.
In the words of its creator, such people may be able to maximize all the characteristics and power of the energy, but as time goes by, they are strictly speaking no longer who they once were. Perhaps the term 'servant of energy,' or 'manifested puppet' would be more appropriate.
Resisting, maintaining oneself, ensuring one's humanity. This is what must be considered when using this energy."
Rogers patiently explained what he knew to Wayne. In his opinion, the other party had similar traits to him: a strong will, a tenacious spirit, their own ideals and pursuits, and their own persistence and bottom line. Such people are the most favored and approached by emotional energy.
With emotional energy showing signs of getting out of control, it was likely that the other party would inevitably be pursued by one or more attributes of energy in the near future, so he felt it necessary to inform him of some things in advance.
"Can I study your devices and this energy?" Wayne pondered for a moment before making a request.
"Of course, but I can't provide you with too much help. I'm not a professional researcher." Rogers hesitated, but thinking about the threat of the energy spreading after going berserk in this city, he nodded. Anyway, he couldn't stop this kind of thing at all.
Even if he didn't help, he believed that the man in front of him would find a way to obtain some materials from other sources for private research. Not only him, but he believed that many forces would study this energy after discovering it.
He wasn't Luke, who could make these energies obedient.
"I just need you to be the material." Wayne's answer unsurprisingly made Rogers a little embarrassed.
"How much time do we have? Until the next person to master this energy appears?" Wayne stood up with a sense of urgency, ignoring Rogers' slight embarrassment, grabbed a coat from the side, put it on, and asked.
"If you're talking about the next host, then perhaps it already exists." Rogers stood up as well, shrugging helplessly: "That's one of the other reasons I came to you. The atmosphere in this city isn't good, so some negative emotions and mental energies are more active and appear earlier. To be prepared, I need to find some helpers."
"Also, I have to remind you that if it were before, your deterrent methods of relying on cracking down on criminals and making everyone feel afraid might still be a little useful, although I don't think it's very useful. But now, I suggest you must be prepared for the worst, or change to a new path."
"Is it the problem of the city's atmosphere?" Wayne opened the door and walked with Rogers through the manor's villa.
"Yes, it's the problem of the atmosphere. You must reverse them from the root to curb the growth and emergence of those negative energies. If you can't, then you will face an endless stream of super criminals appearing every moment.
Okay, this city seems to have become like this. I've never seen such a big city full of criminals. Maybe you don't want to face super-enhanced versions of them?" Rogers suggested.
"Do you have a better method?" Wayne asked.
"Of course, I know some information. Your Wayne family and Wayne Group are one of the most famous families and richest companies in this city. You have a great influence in this city. So why don't you try to step from behind the scenes to the front?
Why are you so obsessed with being a Dark Knight instead of a shining one? Is there something you can't get over in your heart, or are there any concerns?" Rogers understood some superheroes' behavior of hiding their identities, as it could avoid a lot of trouble for themselves and their family and friends. But it just so happened that he had a few unconventional superhero teammates.
In Rogers' eyes, Bruce Wayne had many similarities with Tony Stark from another world in terms of personality, family, and experience. It's just that Tony is more self-centered and free, while Bruce is repressed and burdened.
"Think about it, in the future, if you can't research anything, your secret identity will inevitably be exposed. Even if you change another identity, it won't help. At that time, even if you are unwilling, you will still be exposed to the sunlight."
"I will consider it. But now, I must first understand this energy and find its weaknesses, so as to research methods to restrain them." Wayne's footsteps only paused for a moment before speeding up again. He obviously also anticipated that if the research made no progress, then perhaps he would really have to say goodbye to his Batman persona.
As for whether Wayne could find the weaknesses of the energy through research, Rogers didn't hold much hope. This was purely confidence in Luke's technology. In Stark's words: what he was researching now was a bit profound. But he also knew that people like Wayne would not change their attitude and thinking unless they were completely thwarted.
…
The Sionis Family.
Roman Sionis placed a black mask on his face.
"Just like that, the power of rage surges into me."
Feeling the swelling power in his body and the red energy coat, Roman clenched his fists.
PS: Thanks to classmate Silent Peak for the reward.
PS1: A bit of writer's block, so I'll post a two-thousand-word chapter first.
PS2: Does anyone have any energy attributes they'd like to set for Gotham's many dark overlords? Of course, it must be consistent with the character's personality and behavior.
