American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker

#268 - The Beginning of Diversity: Decisions by Multiple Parties

“How did you escape from that place?”

Thanos's tall figure stood before Nebula and the others. He ignored the unfamiliar faces, only looking at Nebula as he asked.

Nebula, brought before Thanos, was still contemplating her escape when Thanos's question startled her. She looked up at Thanos, puzzled, her mind quickly searching for relevant memories.

“Lost your memory?” Thanos frowned. Then, without waiting for Nebula's reply, he turned and said, “Come with me, I need to check your memory.”

“Wait, check memory?” Star-Lord, seeing Thanos unguarded and with his back to them, couldn't help but pull out his powerful gun.

“I know you, Star-Lord, a very famous Ravager,” Thanos said, turning to glance at Star-Lord pointing a gun at him. He gestured to the nearby soldiers who also raised their weapons at Star-Lord and his group, and said calmly.

“Should I feel honored?” Star-Lord hesitated, considering whether to pull the trigger. Their current situation was not good; they were surrounded.

“Or perhaps, you should feel unfortunate,” Thanos said meaningfully, “As a survivor who escaped from Knowhere, I'm surprised you dare to come near this area. Is there something inside that you can't bear to abandon? Also, where is my daughter Gamora? She should have escaped Knowhere with you.”

“You dare mention Gamora,” Star-Lord's sanity seemed to be on the verge of collapse.

“What happened at Knowhere? Didn't the Power Stone fall into Ronan's hands?” Nebula sensitively grasped the information in Thanos's words, searching her mind for records about Knowhere. She believed Thanos wanted to know the whereabouts of the Power Stone.

“Who told you the Power Stone fell into Ronan's hands?” Thanos narrowed his eyes instantly, turning his gaze to his daughter.

“Isn't that the case?” Star-Lord thought Nebula's words made sense.

“I don't know who ultimately got the Power Stone, but the last information I received was that the Power Stone was in the hands of the Godslayers,” Thanos said slowly, his eyes deep, realizing something.

“Who are the Godslayers?” Star-Lord and Nebula looked blank, knowing nothing about the people Thanos mentioned.

“It seems your memories have been severely distorted, but it doesn't matter, I have ways to find out what I want to know from your minds. You will be obedient, won't you?” Thanos said, his eyes fixed on Nebula.

“I refuse,” Nebula said, drawing the weapons she carried. Although she didn't know how Knowhere in this universe had developed, she would never willingly allow Thanos to browse her memories at will. After all, Thanos in this timeline didn't know the location of all the Infinity Stones, but she knew them.

Especially the location of the most mysterious Soul Stone.

Bang!

Star-Lord decisively fired a shot, but Thanos dodged it at close range. His massive body displayed incredible agility and strength, especially his explosive power, which exceeded everyone's expectations.

Rhodey's Iron Man armor didn't have time to take off and create distance before Thanos reached out, tore off the external weapons, and threw him onto Clint, sending them rolling into a ball.

Star-Lord and Nebula took the opportunity to attack Thanos's body, but their attacks only earned a grin from Thanos, who grabbed them by the necks and lifted them into the air.

“Control them, I want them alive for now!” Thanos ordered his nearby subordinates, carrying Star-Lord and Nebula to the mothership's modification room.

The heavy metal door sealed off the sound of the fierce battle outside.

Thanos threw Nebula into the center of the modification room. Nebula, with almost no resistance, was easily dismantled into parts by Thanos. Her repeatedly modified body was completely frozen under the control order, losing control and only able to project everything she saw from her eyes as ordered by Thanos.

The images sped up like jumping frames, flashing past Thanos's eyes, from Knowhere to her using Pym particles to travel to this universe.

During this time, Thanos saw Ronan taking the Power Stone from Knowhere, Ronan taking the stone for himself, going to destroy Xandar, but being killed by Star-Lord and his team.

He saw him searching for the Infinity Stones one by one, and saw the location of the Soul Stone, saw him snap his fingers and fulfill his wish, and saw his head being chopped off by the new king of Asgard.

All of this was completely different from what he knew. It made Thanos realize that the Nebula and Star-Lord in front of him must be from another universe. He admired himself for fulfilling his wish in another universe.

“You are from another universe, aren't you?” Thanos looked at Star-Lord, still held in his hand.

“Didn't you already see it?” Star-Lord wanted to ignore him, but saw Thanos move his fingers, and the almost disassembled Nebula showed a look of pain, her body curled up like a shrimp being cooked at high temperature. This direct threat forced him to speak.

“I need accurate information from you,” Thanos stopped torturing Nebula.

“We don't know if we're from another universe, we just wanted to travel from the future to the past,” Star-Lord said, looking at the slumped Nebula, compromising.

“Wanting to go back to the past to prevent what has already happened? I have to say, I in another universe really underestimated you,” Thanos confirmed the information.

“Why are you so sure we're from another universe?” Star-Lord was puzzled. He still thought they had returned to the past, but there might have been a slight problem with the timing.

“Because of Knowhere!” Thanos didn't think about hiding anything. He threw Star-Lord on the ground, walked forward, and sat down, saying calmly.

“Knowhere?” Star-Lord had heard this place from Thanos more than once. He knew what it was, but didn't know why Thanos cared so much about it.

“In your world, that Accuser Ronan obtained the Power Stone and betrayed me. But in this world, the Power Stone should ultimately have fallen into the hands of the Godslayers. They caused the Obsidian Five I sent to be completely trapped in that place,” Thanos sat with his legs apart, elbows resting on his knees, fingers crossed in front of him, answering Star-Lord and the Nebula next to him who could not control herself.

“Knowhere has now undergone some incredible changes. It has been swallowed into an unknown dimensional space, and it has become a world of loops. Those trapped inside have not been able to escape from there until now. According to the information I have, the people trapped inside don't even know they are dead, or rather, they don't know they are trapped in a looped dimension. They are just passively and unconsciously carrying out loop after loop. They may still be alive, but their lives will no longer move forward.”

Star-Lord was a little confused, but he knew that Ronan and the Obsidian Five were still trapped in the changed Knowhere, and the Power Stone had not been brought out, but had fallen into the hands of the so-called Godslayers. Thanos was still unable to determine whether the stone and the Godslayers were still in Knowhere.

Thinking of this, Star-Lord realized the difference and also understood why Thanos said they were not from the future, but from another parallel universe.

Unless someone risked changing reality by tampering with time, causing Thanos and their memories to be inconsistent, otherwise it could only be explained by two similar but different universes.

“Your partners are collecting other universe's Infinity Stones?” Thanos suddenly asked softly.

Star-Lord's eyes moved back and forth between him and Nebula, and he nodded slightly.

“Is it using this to return to your universe?” Thanos took out the small tube of Pym particles he had found on Nebula.

“Yes,” Star-Lord had to nod again under Thanos's gaze. There was no way to hide it. Star-Lord could feel that Thanos knew something very well, and was just probing.

“I want to go to another universe with you,” Thanos revealed a smile under Star-Lord's horrified expression.

“You want to go to our universe?” Star-Lord had never realized that his tone could become so dry. He was really shocked by Thanos's sudden request.

In their universe, they had only managed to kill a heavily wounded Thanos who had fulfilled his wish and had no fighting spirit, but this Thanos, who was clearly still at the peak of his combat power, would be an unparalleled disaster in their universe! Who knew how much trouble the other party could cause in their universe?

“Yes, I want to see that beautiful world,” Thanos said yearningly. He himself in that universe had already fulfilled his wish. But he himself, even knowing the whereabouts of the Infinity Stones in other universes, could only wait.

His wings had been broken, and the combat power of the Obsidian Five still had a certain added effect on collecting the Infinity Stones. But they had been lost in Knowhere, their lives unknown. He had fought a few battles with Danvers, but had not yet entered Knowhere.

The God-King Odin of the Nine Realms was still alive and well, and his protection of the Nine Realms still existed. So even knowing the whereabouts of multiple Infinity Stones within the Nine Realms, Thanos could only watch.

He was not afraid of Odin, but he had to admit that under Odin's obstruction, the difficulty of obtaining one of the stones would be greatly increased. Once he appeared within the Nine Realms, it would inevitably attract Odin's attention and a battle.

The only good news was that there were rumors that the Ancient One, the Supreme Mage of Midgard, had fallen. If the Obsidian Five were still around, then Thanos could block Odin and then hand over the task of collecting the Infinity Stones to them.

But now, this plan had naturally failed.

But the Pym particles and Star-Lord, who could travel through the universe's barriers, had brought Thanos a new path. Not to mention anything else, if that group of people could bring back a few Infinity Stones from Midgard, then once he followed them back, he would be able to obtain the ownership of the Infinity Stones scattered in Midgard without any effort.

If it really didn't work, he could also recruit some helpers in other universes.

……

Quiet City

“Do you think we should agree to his conditions?” In a silence, Scott took the lead and couldn't help but speak.

“Letting the other party communicate with our universe, this statement is pretty good. The fear is that some unexpected situations will occur,” Natasha, as an agent, added suspiciously.

“But this is the only way at present,” Dr. Banner frowned, “According to his words, their universe's Infinity Stones may not be effective in our universe, and they don't seem willing to lend us the stones. Then the only, and the best way, is what Luke said, he will teach us the method of condensing the Infinity Stones, and then we will return to our universe to re-condense and extract new stones.”

“This method requires time and corresponding supporting devices. If we do it all ourselves, then it will take a very long time, and other unexpected events may occur during this period. But if they have their help and guidance, then we can immediately extract and condense new stones after we go back,” Captain Rogers said, also frowning slightly.

“My suggestion is to agree to him,” Stark gave his answer very neatly. “But we must agree on the corresponding restrictions beforehand. What are we here for? It's to save everything! The opportunity is in front of us, are we going to back down? Impossible!”

“I agree with Tony's opinion. Anyway, we don't have any other better solutions, and we have nothing to lose,” the vicissitudes of Thor echoed. He still had a high opinion of Luke's people, after all, he had seen his living father and mother here, and a living brother. If the two universes established contact, it would be equivalent to him being able to see them again. It didn't have to be very frequent, but even just a thought was enough to make the decadent and vicissitudes of Thor feel a surge of motivation in his heart.

“I just want Groot and them to come back, as for the others, I don't care,” Rocket Raccoon snorted twice, spreading his small paws indifferently.

“Then negotiate terms with the other party,” Stark said, making up his mind. He pointed to Rocket Raccoon, Natasha, and Captain, “Let's set some bottom lines first, and then talk to them.”

……

“Will they agree to your terms?” Nick Fury looked at the closed conference room where Stark and the others were.

“Why not? Who else can give better conditions than me?” Luke spread his hands: “I didn't let them sell their country or their universe, it's just cooperation and development. I consider the conditions I gave to be generous enough.”

“Hopefully so.” Nick was more or less disapproving of Luke's words. Who was the last one who felt the conditions were generous and was still in the mud pit? It was him! It was him and his S.H.I.E.L.D.! And the entire planetary government that was kidnapped onto the chariot!
