American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#218 - Epilogue, aftermath, pause
"Is he dead?" Loki asked, watching the Dark Elf disappear into the doorway. He felt Luke had become even more terrifying in the time since they last met. Even he and his brother, working together, might not have been able to take down such a powerful Dark Elf so quickly.
"He's not dead, but I think in a while, he'll wish he were," Luke said, uttering words that Loki and Thor didn't understand.
"I'll go help Tony." Thor picked up his hammer, glanced at the Hulk, who had the upper hand and was about to win, then turned his attention to Tony Stark on the other side.
Tony alone would probably need more time to defeat that Minotaur. Thor thought he should lend a hand, resolve the fight quickly, and then discuss the compensation issue with Luke.
Dario, transformed into a Minotaur, had eyes red with rage, his power escalating again and again.
A portal swirled open in the air, and a sour-faced doctor and the chubby sorcerer Wong stepped out.
"Good heavens, what happened here? Is World War III about to start?" Stephen Strange exclaimed, stunned by the ravaged battlefield before he could even speak. He knew whose territory this was, which made the scene even more shocking.
"By the Vishanti! Has a dimensional demon invaded?" Wong's eyes widened in disbelief. He even rubbed his eyes and scanned the area again. The lingering flames and ruins were still vivid.
Luke's home base had been ransacked?
This was an event on par with the Sanctum Sanctorum, the Sorcerer Supreme's residence, being blown up!
Wong almost turned around to summon the Ancient One; he figured that he and Stephen were likely just cannon fodder against an enemy who could devastate Luke's territory like this.
Wong genuinely thought so, if not for his sharp eyes spotting Luke's figure.
"What happened here?" Stephen also saw Luke, slowly floating down beside him with the aid of his Cloak of Levitation. Now that he had magic, he was becoming increasingly lazy and reliant on it.
It was indeed useful.
"Haven't you already seen?" Luke gestured towards the ruined center of the park with his chin.
"It's precisely because I've seen it that I'm surprised. I never thought you'd have a day like this." Stephen was somewhat gleeful. Seeing Luke so calm and composed, his clever brain had already made some conjectures, but in any case, it was safe for now, and nothing terrible had happened—that much was certain. So he could joke with Luke.
"Isn't that Loki of Asgard? What's he doing here?" Wong walked over, looking surprised as he saw Loki slowly getting to his feet.
"It's a long story." Loki glanced at Luke, realized he wasn't going to answer for him, rubbed his chest, which felt somewhat constricted, tilted his head, and pouted.
"Have the enemies been dealt with? You probably don't know, the Sanctum's alarm system kept going off; we thought some dimensional demon's follower was causing trouble again." Wong said, looking suspiciously at Loki, "Did you bring people to invade Midgard again?"
Loki was choked by Wong's words and simply shut up, playing dead.
"Stop playing your golden cicada shell trick; I don't think it's useful. You'll have to face it sooner or later," Luke said suddenly, looking at an empty area to the side.
"Face what?" Loki, looking pale, slowly materialized from the air in the area Luke was staring at. The original Loki figure vanished before everyone's eyes as a bubble.
"Face your dignified father, your loving mother, your doting brother, and the bill I haven't even drawn up yet," Luke said finally, with a touch of black humor.
Loki's expression turned even worse.
"The alarm can be turned off; the situation is stable and harmonious," Luke turned to Stephen and Wong and said, "Of course, if there are any remaining threats, you can act according to the Sorcerer Supreme's rules; I don't mind."
"You call this stable?" Strange looked in astonishment at the ruins, then at the intense battle between Hulk and Stark, and the light and dark giants who stood on either side of Luke like bodyguards, walking with heavy steps and looking like they were not to be trifled with. He was bewildered.
Even after your home was blown up, you're so calm, even a little happy? Is that real?
I don't understand!
"Ahem, Sorcerer Stephen, that Minotaur is using the power of some totem too recklessly; let's go deal with it." Wong tugged on Strange's arm, pulling him towards Stark's battlefield.
The Minotaur was one of their targets.
Originally, according to the alarm level, there should have been an even more terrifying energy fluctuation, but they didn't sense it after arriving. Luke must have already dealt with it. What he wanted to do most now was to quickly finish things here and then go back to doing what he needed to do. He pulled Strange away because he was afraid his sharp tongue would cause an argument with Luke. After spending so much time together, he knew that Strange's personality wasn't very likable, although he didn't dislike him.
In any case, this chaotic, terrible, and rewarding night had finally passed.
The attack on Hebron Industrial Park, such a major event, naturally dominated the headlines of major media outlets again. Of course, it was impossible to miss the flamboyant figure of Iron Man.
To the media, Tony Stark appearing in the battle ruins was not surprising at all. After all, wherever there was a major event in the metropolis, there he was. He was a big draw, and Stark had various ties and collaborations with Hebron. Since they couldn't interview Luke and Ina of Hebron, Stark naturally and unceremoniously stepped up.
Luke was now in Stark Tower, listing a bill—a bill that made Thor and Loki look ashen, especially Loki, whose knees were weak and trembling.
The two argued with Luke for half the night, looking troubled. Anyway, they weren't normal people; not sleeping for a few days was nothing to them. Dr. Banner sat weakly on the sofa, listening to the three of them arguing back and forth for half the night, his eyes so sleepy that he could barely keep them open. Hulk had enjoyed himself, but he left decisively. He was a little exhausted.
As for Mr. Dario, this time, for using the power of a certain totem deity too recklessly without permission, he was exiled by Wong and Strange through a portal to who-knows-where. Anyway, he was definitely not on this planet, and it couldn't be guaranteed that he was even in this universe.
Finally, with Thor and Loki heaving a sigh of relief, covered in sweat, and with expressions of relief, the issue of Luke's compensation was finally settled.
Although looking at the bill still made Thor and Loki feel pressured, they felt fortunate when they thought about the original bill that Luke had listed. The current bill was definitely above his expectations, but the two brothers were indeed a little stretched when facing Luke, while also being in the wrong.
Especially since Luke had sincerely backed down again and again, shrinking the bill to one-tenth of the original amount, even they felt a little embarrassed to shrink it any further. Although one-tenth of the original bill was still a daunting number for the two brothers.
But at least it included the cost of the [High-Dimensional Space Core Device], which was a bit of a consolation.
PS: A bit of writer's block. I'll sort it out and add some words in the next few days.
PS1: Today is Qingming Festival, are any book friends going home to worship their ancestors?
PS3: Those who say I'm short, I'll admit it today, well, just today!
