American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#197 - Octopus, Sprout, New Rules of the Game
In the foreseeable future, to protect their own data security, the giants on the planet, with Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D. as benchmarks, will gradually learn to upload their important data to the data dimension, completely binding their future to it, once they discover that the data dimension can serve as a server.
After all, if the data dimension experiences any major shocks or changes, the data and foundation they have painstakingly accumulated within it will likely suffer losses.
And those truly talented researchers may have even greater love and admiration for the data dimension! Because its existence eliminates the pressure of funding, equipment, and experiments, allowing them to work independently without relying on giants or investors, and still successfully refine their technologies.
If the data dimension fully integrates into reality, it will undoubtedly slash the costs for researchers dramatically. While giants will still maintain an advantage, they will no longer be able to completely control a genius researcher as they once did.
Even the evaluation of technological achievements can be replaced by the data dimension, becoming the most authoritative measure. Just look at how much their permissions within the data dimension increase after uploading their technology.
The not-so-distant future will definitely be a turbulent, chaotic, and intensely competitive reshuffling.
...
S.H.I.E.L.D.
Inside the conference room.
On the virtual reality screen, a short, stout man with four mechanical arms and sunglasses is giving a speech to a group of mutants, surrounded by other mutants. His煽动性 words and the demonstrations by his mutant followers are clearly moving many in the audience.
The image finally freezes on the man's arrogant and smug face, and the roused emotions of the mutant group below.
"Can someone tell me, is Otto Gunther Octavius now a monster from a failed experiment, or is he also a mutant?" Nick rubbed his forehead in a headache, glancing around with his one eye.
Agent Coulson is still away on assignment in Africa. Present are Maria Hill, Natasha, and Captain, Stark, and Dr. Banner, who are virtually connected to the meeting.
"Obviously, he's a mutant now. He admitted it himself," Stark's virtual projection sat on a high-backed office chair, swiveling back and forth, pointing out in a casual tone.
"Then who made him a mutant? And he even accessed the data dimension!" Nick's tone was serious, clearly feeling threatened by Doctor Octopus Otto's access to the data dimension. If anyone on this planet currently understands the data dimension the most, Nick is definitely high on that list.
"It's not necessarily someone who made him a mutant. Maybe the aftermath of that mechanical virus outbreak just happened to affect him? Didn't he go missing for a while before?" Stark speculated. Tony still remembered that genius doctor who was once pushed out by certain giants to compete with him and Heberon in the energy market and news. He was indeed a genius, but compared to him and Luke, he lacked a bit of luck.
He was too arrogant and trusted himself too much. He didn't trust others and wanted to do everything himself!
This is a common problem among geniuses.
Tony could understand him. But unfortunately, his experiment didn't succeed! No matter how talented you are, or how much prestige you have, a huge failure is enough to shatter the halo surrounding you and the trust of investors.
Shattering the halo isn't too fatal, but losing the trust of investors is a fatal blow to a researcher like Otto who needs funding.
The failure of a high-profile energy experiment not only caused giants like Osborn to lose their initial investment but also cast doubt on Otto's energy technology due to the experimental accident.
In contrast to Otto's failure, Heberon and Stark's successful hot/cold dual-core fusion energy technology, coupled with Heberon's influence with longevity potions and the like, made Heberon and Stark the ultimate winners.
And that Dr. Otto? After everything settled, he was just a researcher that the giants cooperated with and then hastily cut ties with.
Another common problem among geniuses is their obsession with technology. After recovering from the experimental accident, Dr. Otto became even more fixated on his energy technology. He didn't believe his technology was inferior to Heberon's, and he wanted to prove himself again. But he found that he couldn't get any investment anymore.
Under successive blows, Dr. Otto had the idea of taking a risky path. He became a bank robber, and all the money he robbed was invested in his experiments. His brilliant mind was not only talented in scientific research but also in crime and making the police have a headache. This is also the basis for Dr. Otto's long-term battle of wits and courage with official departments without being caught.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had also paid close attention to Dr. Otto, but did not intervene. Robbing banks has nothing to do with S.H.I.E.L.D., unless he robs an energy bank. If he really has that strength.
But now S.H.I.E.L.D. has to focus its attention on Dr. Otto because he has started recruiting troops and buying horses, recruiting mutant groups! The current government urgently needs to solve the problem of comforting and healing this complex and powerful group. It can be said that there are many forces fighting for this group, not only S.H.I.E.L.D., the military, and some corporate giants, but even many underground world groups have extended olive branches to the mutants. But none of them are as open and aboveboard as Dr. Otto.
"I don't understand, why does his access to that data dimension make you so nervous?" Cap raised his hand and sincerely expressed his confusion. Although he is now the administrator of this country, what he relies on most since taking office is still the intelligent management system provided by Heberon and Stark, and the think tanks provided by the major giants. Many things still need to be studied and mastered in depth for him, an old antique who has been asleep for decades.
"That's because the data dimension can double the strength of mutants. As long as there is technology, I even suspect it can keep increasing!" Stark answered Steve's question in place of Nick.
"That Dr. Otto is obviously a smart researcher," Dr. Banner added.
"That's what I'm worried about! I don't care about one Dr. Otto, but a group of mutants whose strength has been increased by who knows how much, in case of unforeseen circumstances, I can't help but care," Nick spread his hands. This wave is really that Dr. Otto has invaded the field managed by S.H.I.E.L.D., and it is difficult for him to turn a blind eye.
Nick is now also glad that there was no such thing as a data dimension when Hydra was active, otherwise, the twists and turns might have been even greater!
"How does it increase?" Steve's eyes scanned back and forth between Stark and Nick's faces. "Does it mean that Dr. Otto will use his technology to create weapons and distribute them to them? Where does his funding, equipment, and materials come from?"
"No need for funding and other equipment," Agent Hill shook her head, explaining to the captain: "As long as you provide technology and data to the data dimension, then as your permissions increase, the data dimension can help you do everything that any equipment can do. That is to say, for a truly genius researcher, as long as he accesses the data dimension, his need for various real-world laboratories and equipment for technology verification will be greatly reduced."
"What's more troublesome is that he can also use the data dimension to force his technology to another person who knows nothing about technology, so that they can master the manufacturing process. If Dr. Otto gives a mutant the technology to make bombs, then this mutant can make the bombs on the technical blueprint without any tools, only with materials and his own ability," Nick added with a cold face.
"And more importantly, the technology provider has absolute control over his technology for a certain period of time," Tony added after Nick's words.
This earned the attention of everyone, including Nick.
"What do you mean?" A shadow arose in Nick's heart.
"It means that the technology I transmit to you using the data dimension is equivalent to a licensed usage permit. When I allow it, of course, you can use it, but when I don't allow it, you can't use it. I can even limit the number of times, for example, if you use my technical blueprint to reach the number of times I limit, the authorization will automatically end, unless you get re-authorized.
And within the technical patent period, let's just call it the technical patent period, after all, this description is easier for you to understand, the inventor has absolute control over the technology."
Tony shook in his chair, "For example, I can now cancel the authorization of those two Nulman brothers, and they will not be able to make energy pulse gloves. Unless they really thoroughly understand that technology inside and out, but it is only limited to their own use, and they cannot authorize it to anyone like me."
"You didn't tell me!" Nick's face turned even darker.
"I only tested it out not long ago. After all, the data dimension is an unknown world, and everything needs to be explored to be discovered. Don't worry, I'm very generous and won't cancel the technical authorization of your agents," Tony waved his hand.
"The rules are collapsing," Nick sighed wearily.
"It's just the establishment of new rules. I think this is better for researchers. It helps to improve their true status and importance. It's better than those high-ranking politicians messing around. Isn't that right, Dr. Banner?" Tony disagreed with this and poked Dr. Banner next to him.
Dr. Banner gave everyone an awkward smile and sat honestly in his seat without answering.
"But researchers aren't all good, if they do evil..."
"Technology is not wrong. As for whether people are good or bad, look at this world, can you say that all the politicians are good? New rules of the game, either be eliminated or adapt. Dr. Banner and I are currently feeling good," Tony interrupted Nick.
"I don't want to argue with you on this issue, Tony, not at all!" Nick looked at Tony helplessly.
"Then let's put it aside and don't argue," Tony didn't take advantage of the situation to be sarcastic this time but instead took the initiative to give a step. This made Nick and others feel flattered.
"Dr. Otto, what should we do?" Agent Hill redirected the topic back to Doctor Octopus.
"In any case, no matter what he wants to do, we can't let him publicly recruit more mutants," Nick said firmly. In case a group of robber mutant groups with Dr. Otto's technology as a backing, crazily robbing major banks, comes out later, whether it's him or Captain sitting next to him, they will be dumbfounded and have a headache.
Nick is now also glad that there was no such thing as a data dimension when Hydra was active, otherwise, the twists and turns might have been even greater!
