American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#179 - Nick's Experience
Nick Fury's expression was so serious that Agent Coulson and Agent Hill beside him were silent as cicadas in winter. They were not on the planet at the moment, but on a magnificent and vast metal platform that looked rather crude and simple.
Dark Silent City.
This was the city Luke built in outer space. But its massive size and the technology it used made it impossible for Midgard to detect its existence. It was like a non-existent, invisible city.
Around them, one after another, swirling circles of sparks flashed out, and one after another, mages hurried out of them. Most of them just glanced at them once or twice before rushing to the center of the square as if their eyebrows were on fire.
Nick's one eye stared into the center of the square from afar, his gaze deep. His face seemed calm, but in reality, a Category 10 storm was raging in the depths of his heart.
"Where's Luke?" Nick spat out a few words through gritted teeth.
Coulson and Hill exchanged glances, unsure how to respond. How would they know where Luke was? The wizard Stephen Strange, who had brought them here, had just arrived when he was grabbed like a chicken by a bald female boss. Before they could even say a word, the two of them stepped into a portal and disappeared. So, facing their superior's inquiry, the two could only remain silent.
"What are you doing here?" A much thinner looking sorcerer Wang strode out of a portal. He caught sight of Nick and the others standing motionless and stopped, waving his hand to a few sorcerers beside him before taking the initiative to ask.
"Doctor Strange brought us here, saying that Luke wanted to discuss something with us," Nick said, softening his expression and responding to the approaching sorcerer Wang.
"Something? Oh, it's indeed a big deal. You are also one of the collaborators," sorcerer Wang said, suddenly realizing.
Nick's face darkened again. But he couldn't say anything. He desperately needed an insider to tell him what the situation was! He hadn't seen Luke for a while, but he felt like Luke had done something big again that he didn't know about?
"What is that?" Nick pointed to the group in the center of the square, over four meters tall, burning with eerie white flames, and with two curved, ram-like horns on their foreheads.
"What else could it be? Demons from the Hell Dimension," sorcerer Wang sighed.
Hearing this, Nick and the others, even though they had guessed it in their hearts, couldn't help but gasp when it was confirmed.
"If I remember correctly, the Hell Dimension seems to be an enemy, right?" Nick thought about the dimensional knowledge that sorcerer Wang had once popularized for him. He remembered that he had even sent agents to collect entrance fees and other messy fees from that Ghost Rider. It was quite unpleasant at the time.
"Yes," sorcerer Wang nodded affirmatively.
"Then?" Nick pointed to the sorcerers and a group of demons who were frantically trying to control the situation.
"Didn't Luke make a big deal with Mephisto, one of the lords of the Hell Dimension, some time ago?" sorcerer Wang said.
"Luke made it? Mephisto?" Nick sensitively grasped the key point in sorcerer Wang's words.
"Yes, in Asgard's Immortal Palace, under the full witness of the God-King Odin and the Ancient One," sorcerer Wang felt that he had sighed more today than he had in the entire past year combined.
"Didn't the Ancient One stop Luke or anything? This is a demon?" Nick felt the veins on his forehead throbbing and jumping. Although he knew very well that Luke wouldn't do anything stupid like letting a wolf into the house, he couldn't help but entertain the possibility that Luke had been deceived or something.
"I'm sorry, this deal is really too big," sorcerer Wang said with an awkward smile. He was also shocked when he heard about this deal, and Mordo's eyes were brighter than a wolf's eyes in the night, glowing green. He had even asked Mordo how big the prospect of this deal was, and Mordo's reply was: so big that you can't see the edge of it at a glance, provided it can be done.
Too much was given!
Nick and the others instantly understood.
"So, we are now in a cooperative relationship with the Hell Dimension again?" Nick rubbed his forehead. He realized that his understanding of those demon gods was still too superficial.
"Cooperation is cooperation, confrontation is confrontation. Everything is still unclear," sorcerer Wang saw Nick's entanglement, and it took him some time to reverse his own views.
Nick nodded knowingly. It's like one organization cooperating and confronting another. He understood.
"Then what are you doing here? They won't enter the planet, will they?" Nick asked out of his sense of responsibility. If this group of demons entered the ground, he was afraid he would be very busy.
"According to the agreement, they will not enter the planet without permission. All transactions are completed in Luke's metal city. Moreover, the Sanctum Sanctorum's barrier is still stable," sorcerer Wang explained, then looked at the demons in the center of the square and subconsciously said, "As for them? They should be exchanging money."
"Exchanging money? By the way, what big deal did Luke make with Mephisto?" Nick saw a sorcerer in the distance calling for sorcerer Wang and quickly asked.
"Do you have Mind Rings?" sorcerer Wang looked at the hands of Nick and the others. Nick and the others raised the rings on their fingers. sorcerer Wang moved his steps, leading them through the crowd: "Then come with me, we'll talk as we walk. Remember to open the power of the ring to protect your minds, otherwise the power radiation of those demons may affect your thinking. The greatest benefit of emotional energy is that it can protect our spirit and immunize us from the subtle erosion and influence of those dimensional energies on our mental consciousness."
Nick and the others supported the energy clothes of the Mind Rings.
"You can ask Luke himself about the specific transaction content in the future. What I know is that Luke promised Mephisto the position of the first president of the future Dimensional Energy Bank. So Mephisto joined decisively. Of course, he may jump back at any time. These demons are here to be thrown over to receive business training," sorcerer Wang explained to the three people following behind him as he walked. The square was very large, so although there seemed to be many people, machines, and huge metal boxes around, it still didn't seem crowded.
Nick and the others suddenly felt a burst of magic.
While speaking, the group had already arrived near the center of the square. On a simple stand, a researcher wearing a white coat printed with the Hyperion logo was saying to a demon more than twice her height: "What do you want to sell?"
The demon took out a huge thigh bone from an unknown beast and slammed it heavily on the special metal table. Several sorcerers from the lineage of the Ancient One, as well as magicians seconded from Asgard, immediately rushed up behind the researcher, mobilizing magic and spells to perform various tests and analyses on the thigh bone.
Then the three parties exchanged the information they obtained and, after evaluation, gave new currencies of corresponding value.
There were many similar exchange places around the square, and many demons were lining up to exchange.
"Demons seem to be polite, they even line up?" Nick, seeing this scene, exclaimed.
"You came late. You didn't see when they were making trouble. Did you see those mechanical weapons and robots standing around? They have already replaced a batch of them. I have to say that Luke's technology is really good. Once a large amount of data is collected, the weapons and machines manufactured specifically are indeed effective. More than ten demons have died here. Mephisto even came over to complain, but was blocked back by the God-King Odin and the Ancient One," sorcerer Wang curled his lips, pointing out the reason why these demons were so obedient now without any politeness.
Soon, a huge mental roar resounded in the square, translated into seven or eight different languages and spread in all directions under the conversion of the city's language conversion device.
"Insect, I am a warrior under the command of Lord Mephisto! How dare you treat me like this?" A demon burning with raging flames waved a flame whip, whipping a huge metal box beside him away and roaring angrily at a sorcerer not far in front of him.
A row of robots rushed over with weapons, and a blood-red figure was faster. A huge energy beam directly covered the demon's face, and then the surrounding sorcerer squad also followed up. Finally, a hammer flashing with thunder and lightning descended from the sky and smashed down on the demon's head. The demon, who had been flaunting his power the moment before, immediately collapsed to the ground and honestly acted like a dead fish.
The other demons who saw this scene gloated. Of course, there was also a little bit of fear in their eyes. After ten demons died, their lords had given them a thorough education before they came over. Some unruly demons who wanted to come over to use their own characteristics to find loopholes were severely educated by the master here, and they had become much more sensible. But it didn't prevent new people from coming over and re-eating the bitterness they had eaten.
"Why is Frank here?" Nick recognized the blood-red figure at a glance and asked in amazement.
"Oh, he and Thor are here to maintain order. I heard that Luke gave him a high salary," sorcerer Wang glanced at it casually, explained it lightly, and then stopped paying attention. He was very nervous at the beginning about similar disturbances, but after many times, they had become numb. Anyway, when a demon comes over, no matter whether they have caused trouble or not, it is definitely right to beat them up first and then teach them the rules!
Finally, they arrived at the center of the square, where there were more demons and people, and two dwarves with dense hair were sitting there.
"What type of weapon do you want?" One of the dwarves asked in a somewhat mechanical and numb tone.
"I want a very powerful long knife." The demon who was asked exuded a powerful force, but under the dwarf's impolite inquiry, he showed a bit of flattery. His tall body was almost bent at ninety degrees, and his sparking face was full of—um, smiles? He even intimately used his energy to manifest the weapon form he imagined.
"Bring your own materials and pay the money over there." The dwarf glanced at it twice, then waved his hand, signaling the next one.
"Can I forge a weapon after I pay the materials and money?" The demon controlled his volume and asked.
"How is that possible! Have you passed the training? Are you excellent? Have you met the performance standards? Have you stood out? No? If you haven't done any of that, what are you in a hurry for? Do you understand the rules? Even if you have done all of that, you have to line up! The forging tasks we have received are already full! Full!" The dwarf patted the table angrily and roared at the demon in front of him.
The demon stood up and saw a group of sorcerers and mechanical devices staring at him. He raised his hands and obediently went to another table to pay the fee according to the dwarf's request. Um, with some of the so-called new currency that he had just exchanged for his treasured materials.
The dwarf sat back in his seat with satisfaction. It was nice to be able to command and yell at someone much stronger than himself without worrying about the consequences. It's just that the subsequent forging task pressure was a bit high. He hoped that the forging equipment technology Luke provided them would be good.
Nick felt that if he stayed here for a little longer, his heart would definitely suffer. Looking at Coulson and Hill's expressions, it was obvious that they felt the same way. But fortunately, he finally met Luke under the guidance of sorcerer Wang. Luke was righteously saying something to a virtual projection in front of him.
"...You are increasing our workload! Can't you just go directly to help those poor demons with this money?..."
"This is their business, why should I pay?" The virtual shadow, who was accused by Luke, was also very excited, and the bone mask on his face was constantly changing expressions, arguing with Luke.
"You are their lord!"
"So? Should I pay that damn training fee and forging fee? That's not reasonable, Luke!"
"Capitalists will shed tears when they see you, and even Grandet will be willing to admit defeat in front of you!" Luke rolled his eyes. Facing a demon god who let his subordinates bring their own dry food and materials to work for him, without having to pay anything himself, and who took it for granted and regarded it as the truth, Luke was speechless. And this situation seemed to be regarded as a matter of course among the demon gods.
"This is a very good compliment! Thank you for the praise." Mephisto accepted Luke's words with a smile.
"What else do you want to ask? Thanks to you, everything is a mess here now!" Luke said somewhat helplessly. No wonder the God-King Odin and the Ancient One ran away so fast, throwing all the affairs related to Mephisto onto him.
"In addition to the [Godhood Loan] and [Revenge Loan] you mentioned, do you have any new inspiration? I also thought of a few loans, do you want to help me refer to them?" Mephisto said excitedly.
"I found you a professional! He can answer all your questions. Um, except for the power above." Luke saw Nick and his party, and immediately threw the pot out, pointing to the direction where Nick was, and handing over Mephisto's virtual shadow communication in a daze.
