American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker

#169 - Killian's Last Stand

“The military refused to assist.” Nick Fury’s face was gloomy as he hung up the phone. After learning about Killian’s plan, Nick contacted the military immediately, but the communication was not pleasant.

“They refused your intervention, right?” Luke said bluntly and harshly. Just like with the Hulk back then, some extremists in the military regarded him as their private property, refusing any intervention from anyone or any department. The reason Hulk was later recruited by Nick was because Stark, representing Nick, made a tacit deal with General Ross.

“I always thought that if Hydra was defeated and wars were eliminated, people’s lives would get better and better. But after waking up, everything I saw and encountered told me that this was just my personal wishful thinking. Those people haven't changed, or rather, they are even worse than in my time.

I haven't seen those people come up with any truly effective and concrete measures for the resettlement, living, and reconstruction of the homes of war-affected people. They are fighting for power and gain. I don't understand politics very well, but I know those people are unqualified!” Captain Steve said with disappointment.

“That’s right, those bureaucrats are never worthy of the slightest trust.” Frank smiled, mocking. As long as they are dissatisfied with those bureaucrats, then they are on the same side.

“These things can be discussed after the trouble is resolved. The problem now is that I can only rely on you guys.” Nick interrupted their complaints.

“What about the soldiers under your command?” Steve glanced at Nick.

“What do you think is the reason why those alien weapons haven’t caused a major disturbance so far? It’s because the agents under my command are chasing and searching for their whereabouts like mad dogs. And there are still the Congress and the military creating trouble for me.” Nick rubbed his forehead, looking exhausted. He was disgusted by this kind of thing, where he was desperately trying to reduce trouble while his teammates were frantically pulling him back for the sake of profit distribution, but he was already used to it.

“What about Doctor Strange? Can you contact him?” Nick turned his gaze to Luke.

“Don’t count on him, he’s currently taking classes from the Ancient One, so busy that he doesn’t even have time to argue with me.” Luke waved his hand, the other party’s communication was not even on Earth.

Nick opened his mouth to say something, but just then the communicator in his hand rang. After Nick answered the call, his face changed constantly under the gaze of Luke and the others.

“More bad news?” Looking at Nick’s gloomy face, Steve regretted visiting Luke today.

“Those extremists said they would handle this matter.” Nick glanced at Steve after hanging up the phone and replied.

“Isn’t that great?” Luke smiled calmly. Anyway, with the methods of those people on the other side, things would only get worse. The military's performance in this world was a complete disaster. It was difficult to get them to do something, as each of them had their own plans, but when it came to messing things up, that was their real skill and expertise.

How could Luke take the opportunity to propose systemic changes later if these people weren't extremely disappointed in those people? He had long been dissatisfied with those who were bossing around and had to be fed before they could do anything.

If Hebron wanted to go further, those people had to fall.

“What do you think?” Steve asked Nick.

“They do what they do, we do what we do.” Nick never had any good feelings towards those extremists. They were a group of lunatics who would do anything to pursue [power]. Although Ross was annoying, he was considered a mild and communicative person among those extremists. It was hard to say what measures those people would take this time.

A Quinjet slowly landed on the lawn not far in front of everyone. The hatch opened, and Hawkeye Clint and Natasha, Nick's two trusted agents, walked down from the opened deck of the cabin.

“What about you?” Before boarding the plane, Nick took one last look at Luke.

“I can go.” Luke thought for a moment and nodded. He followed them onto the plane.

……

Fully armed soldiers ran out of the transport planes and chariots, surrounding the A.I.M. base. A middle-aged man with a stern face walked towards the interior of AIM under the protection of a group of soldiers with live ammunition.

Two Titan I [Modified] produced by Hebron were fully loaded with ammunition and guarded the rear.

The base security guards were rudely pushed away by the soldiers. The middle-aged man walked all the way forward until a figure appeared in front of him as if waiting for a long time.

“Dr. Aldrich Killian.” Looking at the man blocking the way, a smile appeared on the middle-aged man's stern face.

“General John Ryker.” Killian also called out the name of the person who came. John Ryker, a well-known strongman in the extremist faction, was a powerful figure whose influence could be compared to Ross before Ross fell. After Ross left the military, his voice in the extremist faction became even greater.

The two looked at each other for three seconds before Killian took the lead in breaking the silence.

“General Ryker, what brings you here with so many people to my territory so late?” Killian asked.

“Let’s get straight to the point, Dr. Killian.” John looked at the base security guards who were slowly gathering around Killian, and said calmly: “What you are doing has been caught by someone, so I have to come here personally to help you clean up this mess.”

“Who is the person who caught my weakness? Isn’t your specialty to make some people disappear?” Killian asked with a smile on his face, confronting John.

“That person won’t work, his name is Nick Fury, I think you should have heard of his name. He is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. A troublesome figure.” John said Nick’s name very simply. Sure enough, when Nick’s name was mentioned, the smile on Killian’s face couldn’t help but stiffen.

“Looks like you really know him? Then I can save a lot of words. Hand it over, and give it to me for safekeeping.” John looked at Killian’s facial expressions one by one, eased his tone, and said.

“Hand what over?” Killian’s face became even more ugly.

“The Extremis virus technology, and the Cosmic Cube! The reason you see me now instead of Nick is because I helped you stop him. But he is not someone who will give up easily. You can’t deal with him. Hand over the Cube and your research results. I can make good use of them and help you stop the threats from Nick.” John’s blunt demands were revealed.

“I understand, I have no value to you anymore, right?” Killian did not show the anger he should have, and still had a faint smile on his face, looking at General John who was frowning at him: “I always thought we were like-minded and close partners. When things come to a head, you are just using me as a pawn? Let me make it clear, I am not the kind of person who is willing to be manipulated at will. It is impossible to hand over the technology to you, and it is even more impossible to hand over the Cube.”

“Then you will lose everything, your technology, the Cube, and your own freedom, and even your life.” John’s words carried a hint of coldness. “Dr. Killian, only I can save you now, only I can save AIM! If I leave disappointed, you will be eaten up by the jackals and tigers outside in an instant. Nick and his S.H.I.E.L.D. are the fiercest beasts. You shouldn’t be bargaining with me now, or feeling wronged. What you should be considering now is your survival and freedom.”

“How do I know that after handing over the Cube and the technology, I and my AIM can survive? You have obtained everything, do you still want to stop those beasts for us who have no value? ” Killian showed a mocking smile on his lips. “Perhaps the end of being abandoned by us will be even worse.”

“You have no choice, Doctor.” John raised his hand, insisting on the end. The soldiers behind him raised the weapons in their hands one after another.

“No, I have other, better choices.” Killian shook his head calmly, refuting John’s words. “You people don’t understand what my technology can do at all. It can not only help me deal with this trouble, but also help me conquer this world. Welcome to join this evolution, survive it, and you will become a new human! Just like Homo sapiens replaced Neanderthals, new humans will eventually replace the current humans.”

Along with Killian’s words, a dazzling azure blue light shone from the depths of the base, and the surrounding buildings could not stop its penetration. The light swept across John and others’ bodies like a tide. If there was a high-altitude view, you would see a azure blue halo, like an explosion zone, spreading in circles to all directions at a high frequency.

“Ah!”

A soldier holding a gun suddenly screamed and fell to the ground. Under the attention of everyone, his arm and the gun in his hand were combined together in a complex structure. At the same time, his body clearly showed a metallic color.

Ah!

Screams rose and fell one after another, accompanied by soldiers falling to the ground like mowing grass.

Surrounding this scene, John also felt a certain force inside his body as if it was sprouting, wanting to break out of its shell. He turned around and cast his gaze of shock and anger at Killian, who was smiling brightly in front of him.

“What did you do?” John shouted angrily at Killian. His voice was different from before, with a strong metallic texture.

“What did I do? I did what you have always wanted to do! You and your soldiers have gained power from me! Powerful and beautiful power!” Dr. Killian’s brilliant smile grew bigger and bigger at the corners of his lips, and finally became a little distorted and crazy. “Let everyone evolve under my influence, then my problem is no longer a problem. They will in turn beg me to sell them a little stabilizer that can allow them to live. I will become the most powerful person in this world.”

“You’re crazy!” Listening to Killian’s somewhat illogical and crazy words, John’s eyes widened.

“Scientists are all crazy.” Killian pinched his face with his hand, sorted out his clothes, and then stretched out his hand to John: “Your evolution will take some time, although the possibility of successful evolution is not high, but just like you were willing to give me a choice just now, I can also give you a choice, survival or death?”

“Flax!” John twitched in embarrassment on the smooth floor. He only felt that his neck and head were like having a high fever, dizzy, and even his consciousness could not remain clear. John didn’t know if his brain would be burned if he continued to burn like this, but he knew that if he really lost consciousness, facing the crazy Killian, he would be in great danger.

A green monster similar to Hulk heard John’s call, broke through two walls in a row and rushed in, and rushed towards Killian under John’s last order.

Behind Killian, a steel giant about two meters tall, with metal arms hanging long on the ground like a gorilla, raised them and slammed them together a few times before launching a charge towards the green monster Flax.

“It’s so lively, what kind of fighting party are you having?” A voice, accompanied by a figure breaking through the ceiling, reached Killian’s ears.

A golden figure holding a round shield was suspended in mid-air.

“Steve Rogers.” Killian couldn’t help but say the name of the person who came. Under the overwhelming news reports during this period, as long as it was in a densely populated area with networks and newspapers, no one would not know the name and deeds of the man in front of him.

“Give up, Killian. You are under arrest.” Captain held the shield and made a fighting posture.

“Do you also think I should bow my head and admit defeat to those trash? No, I won’t. Stark bowed his head to them, but I won’t be as useless as him.” Killian shouted loudly: “You are late! I have completely activated the Cosmic Cube! There are at least hundreds of thousands, millions of people outside are undergoing the survival of the fittest evolution! The number of people joining the evolution will increase by tens of thousands every second! They need my technology! They need me to help them survive! You need it too!”

“Don’t bother.” A somewhat indifferent voice sounded behind the excited Killian. Killian turned around in shock, only to see a familiar face.

“Luke Field?” Killian recognized the person behind him. Then, his gaze fell on a familiar black cube floating beside Luke.

“Give it back to me!” At the moment of seeing the black cube, the anger in Killian’s chest almost burst out, his right arm opened, and the glove he took off revealed a black gold metal arm. At this moment, the energy fluctuations of the palm of this metal arm were ready to go.

Facing the powerful energy fluctuations coming from the front, Luke just raised his hand. In full view, Killian’s metal right arm completely disintegrated and dissolved into fragments of metal parts in the air. The surging energy cannon also dimmed, and disappeared into the air with the disintegration of the metal limbs.
