American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#115 - convene
A man dressed simply in tight black clothes and pants, who had just finished running and was resting on a wooden bench by the roadside, looked at the surrounding scenery and crowds, revealing a sense of loneliness, aloofness, and incompatibility. Just as the man was lost in thought, a still-warm hamburger was handed to him, and a voice sounded in front of him.
"Looks like you've been recovering well lately."
The man looked up and was met by a dark face. Nick Fury, wearing his signature black trench coat and black eye patch, shook the hamburger in his right hand as he handed it to the man. He was also holding a hamburger in his left hand, and had already taken a big bite out of it, leaving a large gap.
"Not bad, I feel like my physical condition has almost recovered." The man took the hamburger from Nick. "This doesn't seem like healthy food."
"No choice, sometimes it's good to have something to eat." Nick quickly devoured the hamburger in his hand, took out a napkin from his trench coat pocket that he had gotten when buying the hamburger, wiped his hands and mouth, and sat next to the man on the bench.
"That's the truth." The man smiled, and asked as he ate, "What happened?"
"A little trouble," Nick said softly.
"Do you need my help?" The man finished the hamburger in a few bites, took the unopened pack of napkins that Nick handed him, and asked.
"That's what I came for." Nick's answer was also very direct. "An underground organization called the Hand, they specialize in illegal activities. They are involved in almost all of the mainstream underground world's money-making businesses. S.H.I.E.L.D. is at war with them."
"When I first woke up and started to come into contact with this future world, I thought it would be a beautiful, ideal, and peaceful world. But after looking at history, I realized I was wrong. I don't know what I can do anymore, those people don't seem to need me anymore." The man stood up from the chair.
"The world can never be peaceful, and all we can do is try to keep it stable." Nick waved his hand, and Natasha Romanoff, in a combat suit, walked over with a round shield. Nick, also standing up from the chair, took the round shield from Agent Natasha and returned it to its former owner.
"I thought you only found me, not it." The man stroked the shield he had recovered, feeling somewhat emotional.
"This is Howard's work," Nick said. Anything related to Howard's work, even just a piece of paper, could not be casually discarded.
"Let's go." The man held the shield in his hand, waved it nostalgically a few times, and then looked at Nick and said, "Tell me about the Hand's intelligence on the way."
"Of course, Captain." Nick nodded, signaling Steve Rogers to follow him.
...
"Peter Parker?"
A woman stopped Peter, who was in casual clothes and on a date with Gwen. Since the Oscorp incident, the two of them hadn't had time to go on a private date like this.
"I am." Peter looked blankly at the capable woman blocking his way, feeling an involuntary sense of pressure, especially from the several burly men behind the woman who were mixed in with the crowd, who Little Spider had vaguely sensed and directly identified using his spider-sense. After all, their attention was too focused on him.
"Can we find a place to talk?" Agent Hill glanced around.
"Who are you?" Gwen stepped forward, protecting Peter like a mother hen, which made Peter feel very awkward. He felt that Gwen had changed a lot recently, although she was still as gentle, considerate, and understanding as before, she seemed to be getting more and more assertive.
"Miss Stacy? Don't worry, we don't mean any harm." Agent Hill glanced at Gwen with a smile on her face. Then she pointed in a certain direction and said to Peter and Gwen, "There's a coffee shop over there, let's go talk there."
Watching the strange woman turn and leave without worrying that they wouldn't follow, Gwen and Peter exchanged a confused look.
"I really didn't sense any malice from her." Peter scratched his head. In the end, the two of them still followed, after all, they were both very confident in their own strength. Well, mainly confident in the quiet rest of Gwen's body.
"Spider-Man, Peter Parker. Father Richard Parker, mother Mary Parker." Agent Hill's sharp words immediately made Peter's body stiff.
"You must be mistaken, I'm not Spider-Man," Peter forcibly denied calmly.
"We are S.H.I.E.L.D., you may not have heard of this name, but I believe Miss Stacy next to you must know. After all, she has been working at Hyperion for a long time. We don't make mistakes about a person's information, especially since your disguise isn't perfect." Agent Hill didn't care about Peter's denial, she knew very well what her purpose was this time, to recruit Peter to work for S.H.I.E.L.D., even if this work was short-term.
"I have heard of this organization's name, my mentor Dr. Tilda Johnson told me something about it," Gwen nodded.
"This is my ID, of course, this kind of thing is actually not very credible, we have ID documents from many departments, take them out as needed." Agent Hill looked at Peter, whose face was still changing, and smiled and said, "Don't be nervous, we don't mean to expose your identity. It's just that your sudden appearance last time disrupted an operation plan that S.H.I.E.L.D. had planned. We don't think we can let you wander outside. At least not until the trouble is resolved."
"That night a group of people?" Peter remembered that he had unfortunately gotten involved in a brawl between two groups some time ago, and originally thought he could resolve it quickly, but those masked people with knives almost stabbed him a few times.
"Those are ninjas from the Hand, they are an organization in the underground world. They run all kinds of illegal businesses. We want to take it down, but obviously, it has some mysterious power. This power has brought a lot of trouble to our S.H.I.E.L.D."
Hill briefly explained the two sides that night.
"What do you want us to do?" Gwen took Peter's hand and looked at Hill.
"We want Peter to join us, at least not to suddenly appear like before and disrupt our overall plan." Hill looked at Peter, who still had hesitation on his face, and released the authority that her commander had given her: "Of course, if Peter joins, we will give a certain amount of financial assistance, as well as some information about the Richard couple."
