Alien Knights

Chapter 18 The Curse

Canteen, library, dormitory, three points and one line, this was originally Todd's life trajectory when he was in college in the previous life, and now it is dramatically reappeared in the different world.

Getting up at 6 a.m., Todd, who put on a monk's uniform, sneaked open the door, and after confirming that there was no one in the corridor, he went to the monk's library to study theological scriptures and literary rhetoric.

Some people may say that since Master Meilis has left without saying goodbye, there is no need to continue these courses.

However, Todd still chose to study by himself, which was actually a decision made after careful consideration.

Generally speaking, there are two important reasons: 1. Surviving in a different world as a monk, learning the necessary scriptures is the foundation of communication and evangelism; 2. Regularly appearing in the eyes of others can also help reduce others' suspicion.

After lunch, the afternoon is Todd's lab time. For him, when he first took over this laboratory, the most important task at present is to sort out the materials.

Leaving aside those specimens and plants, there are nearly a hundred kinds of minerals and materials left in the laboratory cabinets that urgently need to be identified and labeled.

Due to the lack of identification equipment at hand, the X-ray identification method and polarized electronic identification method commonly used in the modern world cannot be carried out at all. Only visual observation and simple chemical analysis can be really carried out.

The so-called eye observation method is to observe the color, streaks, transparency, gloss and light reflection of the minerals left in the laboratory. This method can identify the first batch of minerals, such as cinnabar, malachite, magnetite, azurite and so on.

Then prepare some primary chemical reagents, such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, in order to use the chemical analysis method to identify minerals with similar appearance characteristics by different manifestations of chemical reactions. For example, calcite and dolomite cannot be distinguished from the appearance, and the difference can only be seen through the intensity of gas generation after dropping dilute hydrochloric acid.

Finally, those spoiled, worthless, and unidentified mineral bottles were sealed and placed in wooden boxes in the laboratory.

It took Todd almost half a month to prepare these basic reagents and identify and classify nearly a hundred kinds of minerals.

Just when Todd was about to start preparing for the next step, Huggins found him.

We're in trouble.

Hearing this, Todd realized that the rare few days of stability were over.

On the way to the smelting field, Huggins briefly introduced what happened to Todd.

About two days ago, a craftsman who finished the refining work returned home. When I fell asleep at night, I suddenly woke up from my dream. I had severe abdominal cramps at first, and then I started to convulse all over my body, foaming at the mouth, and finally lost consciousness, turning into a walking dead who could only breathe but could not speak.

After learning about this, an experienced old man claimed that he had seen this kind of thing several times, and it was a gift from the devil.

He explained to the villagers: Those ores from the ground are close to the residence of demons. When they are burned and refined, the demons in the ores will be awakened and devour human souls. The only solution is to find the priest in the church and purify the ore with divine power.

Huggins turned down the offer without even thinking about it at the time.

In his view, asking a priest to exorcise demons is equivalent to letting the church know the technology of refining silver.

At that time, while threatening with words and luring with silver coins, Huggins spent a lot of effort and finally suppressed the matter for the time being.

But the good times didn't last long. It was only two days and one night since the last accident. Another craftsman was cursed, with the same symptoms and the same situation.

Now, all the craftsmen and apprentices refused to continue working, and no amount of money could change their minds. Everyone agreed, either find a priest, or stop working indefinitely.

Huggins, who really had no choice, found Todd with the mentality of giving it a try.

Todd listened and nodded, with a rough judgment in his mind.

When they arrived at the smelting field, many people feared the curse of the devil and chose to sabotage and evacuate one after another. The craftsmen and apprentices who stayed behind were less than one-third of the beginning. Even those who stayed behind, no one wanted to get close to the pile of slag. The tools were scattered all over the place, and the solidified solution could still be seen in the soot furnace.

My lord... Aiden saw Todd, and was the first to come up to him, hesitant to speak.

Todd signaled him to be calm and began to look around the smelting field.

After looking at the raw materials, furnace body, water source, and waste liquid one by one, I asked someone about the two sick craftsmen, their work and their specific location.

After completing these investigations, Todd frowned and came to Aiden: What's the matter with the waste liquid tank under the soot furnace?

ah?

Todd squatted down and looked sideways at the lead water waste tank designed by himself. The lead water-based solidification exceeded half of the tank body, and the drain hole at the top end was tightly blocked by stones and other debris.

I said before that every time a smelting is carried out, the underground waste liquid must be diverted out.

Aiden scratched his head: Perhaps some apprentices were lazy and forgot about it.

Nonsense! How can such a thing be forgotten?!

Todd's sudden anger startled everyone present.

Little Jerry, who was standing next to him, shrank back, found a small tree, and tried to hide his body.

Seeing everyone's surprised expressions, Todd realized that his tone just now was exactly the same as the teachers who reprimanded the students in the laboratory.

Todd hurriedly slowed down his speech and lowered his tone: The dedication to the Father, every bit and every drop, may be unintentional, but it is a proof of our virtue.

Aiden held the cross on his chest, lowered his head, and said in a low voice, Father above.

Todd has already reached a conclusion on the Curse of the Devil incident. In the final analysis, the lead liquid during the ash blowing silver smelting was not discharged in time, and the high temperature caused the lead water to evaporate, forming toxic lead vapor, causing acute lead poisoning of the craftsmen.

But this kind of explanation is completely unconvincing to people in the Middle Ages. Once it is said, even oneself will be immediately arrested as heresy.

This matter must be handled in a proper way.

While thinking about the countermeasures, Todd continued to explain to the craftsmen and apprentices: Every link in the refining process is a ceremony for the heavenly father to protect the believers. Any omission or sloppy may cause the devil to take advantage of it.

Apparently, the sudden realization and deep understanding on everyone's faces made Todd realize what he should do next.

I slowly got the prototype of the countermeasure in my mind, but first I need to go back to the laboratory to prepare some things.

Todd made a sign of the cross on his chest, and said to the craftsmen and apprentices: Please tell those who have been cursed, I will personally remove the curse for them this evening, and destroy the devil!
