Chapter 122 Unsolved Cases
The subway rumbles through the underground tracks, and the dull sound is reflected and superimposed in the airtight tunnel space, which sounds like the roar of steel.
Gwen Groveney stood clutching the railing in the early morning train as the train drove her towards school. She turned her head inadvertently, and glanced at the electronic screen hanging in the carriage. The icon of "Passo Technology" happened to flash on the screen, and a woman in a formal suit with a sweet smile on her face was promoting the latest products of Passo Technology to everyone on the screen.
Gwen pursed her lips and looked away angrily, although she realized that it was silly to be angry with the ad.
It has been more than half a month since the "Battle of New York" brought by the Cree, and she is still brooding over it.
Because Michael cut her out of the action in that mission to save the world.
When the incident happened, Gwen also called Elizabeth on a special trip. She asked the secretary if Mr. Passo already had a solution, and she said she wanted to help.Elizabeth's answer was that Mr. Paso did have a plan, and he even expected that Gwen would call and express his desire to help, but he asked Elizabeth to give a refusal reply. She said that Mr. Passo wanted her to stay away from the battlefield and just stay there and not go anywhere, and it would work out.
Gwen was very angry about this. She didn't like it, she felt like Michael was treating her like she was just a three-year-old baby. Well, well, technically she didn't look like she was three years old but that's beside the point! The point is that she doesn't want to be treated like this all the time as an object to be protected. She also has extraordinary abilities, she can use these abilities to do more good things, more meaningful things
Or she could use those abilities to prove to him that she was valuable.
She was very angry at the time, and even thought about ignoring the order, putting on her uniform and wandering into the battlefield, fighting the enemy with the Avengers. She really had such an urge, but in the end she didn't do it, she chose to obey the order and stay where she was.
Just like she is still obediently being an "ordinary" high school girl and continuing her campus life.
But today she realized something was wrong.
Alex - one of the few girls she has a close relationship with - didn't come to school today.
Of course, maybe she simply had a cold and a fever, or something happened at home, but Gwen somehow felt like it wasn't that simple. And since she didn't have many friends, she felt it was her duty to show concern if Alex really got sick or something.
Gwen approached Michelle Grace — the girl who knew it all — during recess to ask about it.Michelle has a wide range of sources of information, ranging from gossip among students, to the divorce of a classmate's parents, and even the news of the principal's cheating.
"Alex? Oh, I heard." Michelle replied enthusiastically. "Oh, poor girl. I heard her father died yesterday."
Gwen was taken aback. "That's really bad. What happened?"
"Drug overdose. It looks like it." Michelle shook her head with a sad look, "It's really pathetic. I can't imagine how she feels now."
Gwen felt sorry for Alex too, and it made her feel compelled to do so.
After school, Gwen didn't go home directly, but took the subway in the direction of Alex's house. She remembered where Alex lived, and she'd been to Alex's house a few months earlier for her birthday party (although Gwen was pretty transparent the entire time).
She rang the doorbell, and it happened to be Alex who answered the door. She looked extremely poor, her face was bloodless, her eye circles were red, and there were still clear tears on her cheeks.
"Gwen." She said dryly, "what are you doing here?"
"I uh...heard about your dad, so I wanted to come and see" Gwen asked, "...to see if you're okay."
"What did you hear? What did they say?"
Gwen froze for a moment: "They said your father. Hmm."
"Overdose, eh?" Alex said dryly. "That's how they spread the word?"
"That's what I heard," Gwen admitted.
"What the hell!" Alex snorted. "That's the funniest joke of the year. My dad never did drugs, understand? He's never touched anything like that in his life. Heck it's been years since I and Mom sees him every day, how could we get it wrong? He doesn't look like a drug addict at all."
"Why is that?" Gwen asked.
"God knows," Alex said, "but it's none of your business. Thank you for your concern, Gwen, but I'm really not in the mood today. You'd better go back. Be careful on the road."
After she finished speaking, she had already retreated into the house, ready to close the door.
"Wait!" Gwen had sharp eyes and quick hands, and quickly rushed forward and stuck a foot in the crack of the door to prevent her from closing the door.
Alex frowned: "What else?"
"Talk to me again, I think maybe I can help."
"Help?" Alex raised an eyebrow, "How can you help?"
Well, I can climb walls and spin silk, and I'm good at punching people. And I also happen to know a super rich and powerful guy who also happens to be the head of a superintelligence agency with global reach. So yeah, I think I can help.
But obviously, she couldn't list any of the above factors.
So she said, "How many people do I know? They work in law enforcement, so I thought maybe I could talk to them and get them to take this case seriously."
"Law Enforcement?" Alex bit the word hard, resentment written on his face, "Come on. I didn't realize until today that New York police detectives are all idiots and idiots. They only ask questions lightly Just a little bit of the situation hastily made a conclusion, saying that my father’s drug overdose is well-documented, unquestionable, and a solid fact. It’s a bunch of nonsense!”
Gwen asked strangely: "But why? What reason do they have to do this?"
"Because they just want to close the case quickly, they don't want to touch this case at all. They never thought of finding out the cause of my father's death at all."
Alex said, looking at Gwen indifferently.
"So thank you for your kindness, but I've had enough of the police. Goodbye, Gwen, and don't miss your train."
After she finished speaking, she stopped waiting for Gwen to reply, and closed the door with a loud bang.
