Chapter 38 Jack in action (1)
Chapter 38 Jack in Action ([-])
The rebellious Wolverine finally "impressed" the professor with his pious promise.
During the whole process, Wolverine repeatedly asked, and the professor "reluctantly" agreed to Wolverine's request and sent Wolverine to Canada to do reconnaissance work.
In fact, in Jack's view, the professor of X Academy has no choice but Wolverine.
You can't send Cyclops to perform such a task with super high autonomy requirements!
But the seasoned professor still played a trick and put a tight band on Wolverine.
After Wolverine was approved, he left the meeting room, packed his belongings, picked up his rucksack, and left as soon as he said it.
Accustomed to a wandering life, he is far superior to anyone in the X-Men in terms of mobility.
Jack watched everything and didn't participate too much in it.
The Liberty Island incident reminded him that as a politician, he is not a combatant and does not need to do superfluous things.
But Jack has one more thing to settle.
That is Coulson with a friendly smile in the corner.
The guy was smiling "invisible" there, but Jack hadn't forgotten that he was a real S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
When everyone was seriously discussing the plan to attack the Akali Lake base, Jack asked Coulson abruptly,
"Colson, I don't think you will report today's events to your superiors."
Hearing Jack's reminder, the soldiers all looked at Coulson who was hiding in the corner. They almost forgot that there was an outsider here.
Coulson thought that Jack was poisonous, but he said firmly,
"I will absolutely keep everyone's actions confidential. In fact, I am very sympathetic to the mutants' experience, and I am on your side."
The professor coughed lightly, drawing everyone's attention to himself, and then said leisurely,
"I trust Coulson, he won't make any briefings to anyone until this matter comes to an end."
Everyone talked about some details of the operation, and the rest is to wait for Wolverine's intelligence before formulating the final plan.
After everyone left the conference room, Jack pushed the professor to a private room. He did not forget his main purpose of coming to the academy.
Jack needs pictures in the base. If the flood destroys the entire dam as in the original plot, Jack will lose the basis for defending the mutants.
Beyond that, Jack needs to be taught something special.
The two communicated for a long time, and the professor finally accepted Jack's plan in its entirety.
Jack left X Academy with satisfaction.
As for Coulson, under the professor's concerned eyes, thinking about what happened to Wolverine, he decisively decided to live in the academy for a while. After all, the Winter Soldier was still chasing him. His decision was also to ensure his own safety.
……
Sitting in a helicopter overlooking New York, the pedestrians on the road are all black spots, so small. No wonder people like to stand on high places. The feeling of looking down on all living beings can easily breed ambition.
Jack certainly had ambitions too.
Raymond lets him use his strengths, which wakes Jack up.
"Where do we go now?"
Mark, who was driving the helicopter, asked.
"Aren't you curious why Coulson stayed in the academy?"
Jack didn't answer Mark, but asked instead.
"I'm not very curious."
"This is your style," Jack rubbed his nose for fun, and then said, "Let's go to the city hall."
……
As an official, Jack is definitely not qualified. He has not come to the city hall to work seriously for a long time.
Jack visited his subordinates at the first stop.
In the special office, Philip and others are still conscientiously sorting out the materials of Hell's Kitchen. The progress of this work is very slow. The main reason is that there are basically no grassroots organizations in New York City.
After checking the work progress of the special office, Jack went to Richard's office without making any comments.
"You are such a rare visitor."
Richard was still very busy, but this time, he saw Jack immediately.
"Richard, I was sick and I remember asking the administrative office for leave."
Jack smiled perfunctorily.
"Do you think I believe it?"
Richard still had a serious expression on his face, and then he said,
"Let's get back to the topic, what's the matter with you coming to me?"
"I would like to invite you to the reception for the [-]th anniversary of the Daily Bugle next week."
Jack took out a beautiful invitation letter from his arms and handed it to Richard.
"Is the Daily Bugle itself ten years old?"
"I made it up temporarily. To be honest, I haven't had time to understand its history." Jack smiled indifferently.
"Oh," Richard dragged on, "what's your purpose?"
"I want to talk about the mutant issue."
"You want to step on a mutant?" Richard guessed.
"On the contrary, I want to do some justice for the mutants."
"This is not a rational decision. Are you sure you want to do this? Maybe I should fire you for Mr. Mayor."
Richard said seriously.
At this point in time, the city hall does not want to take a stand yet.
Jack knew that it was time for him to take out some bargaining chips. He stood up, leaning on the back of the chair and said in a deep voice, "Professor X is willing to spend 2000 million US dollars to help Hell's Kitchen solve the garbage disposal problem, and he will set up a foundation in the near future. Responsible for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty."
Richard was silent, weighing Jack's chips back and forth in his heart.
He knew in his heart that Mayor Snader didn't want to go against the opinions of the masses, and he also didn't want to offend the mutant group. The former decided his political life, and the latter decided his physical life.
So it's a tough decision.
Even Richard, after thinking about it for nearly a minute, still shook his head,
"Jack, it is not convenient for the city hall to express its position at this time. If you want to side with the mutants, I will immediately sign an order to fire you."
"Don't think about it anymore?"
Jack knew it would be difficult to facilitate this matter, but he didn't expect to be frustrated at the first step.
"I believe that Mr. Mayor's thoughts are the same as mine, and we cannot take the risk." Richard explained patiently.
Now Jack is no longer a nobody, although he hasn't accomplished anything. But the huge amount of wealth and the identity of the shareholders of Stark Industries Group cannot be underestimated, which is also an important reason for Richard's change of attitude.
Jack nodded, indicating that he could understand Richard's actions, but understanding was nothing, he still had to stand on the side of the mutants.
So Jack tidied up his suit, trying to make himself look decent, and then he said to Richard solemnly,
"Chief of Staff Richard, I submit my resignation to you."
"I accept your resignation." Richard's voice like a lark became a little low.
Jack turned and left.
Just before opening the door, Richard's voice came from behind,
"Jack, mutants are a vortex. If you can, get out of here as soon as possible. Also, I will attend the reception of the Daily Bugle."
Jack ignored it, and walked out of the office in a cool stride.
