Chapter 37 James and Lily
The next morning, Peter went back to school to pick Hermione up.
He spent some time magically packing Harry and Ron's luggage, and then he led Hermione out on foot out of the grounds, where he told what had happened the night before.
As soon as they were out of the range of the Anti-Apparition Charm, Peter asked Hermione to hold his arm close to him.
After a follower appeared, Hermione also came to 12 Grimmauld Place.
"It's a bit gloomy here." Peter said to her while lighting the door lock with his wand, "I can only ask you to be patient."
"Never mind, I'd be happy to keep a helpless house-elf company - oops, I forgot to bring my SPEW badge!" Hermione looked mortified that she wasted a great opportunity to promote the Vomiting Society.
Peter opened the door and asked Hermione to go in first, while he stayed behind to carefully distinguish the noises from the abandoned square.
Because it was daytime and the surroundings were relatively noisy, the hoarse voice became faintly visible, but it could still be heard if you listened carefully.
Peter guessed it might be a boggart, or some stray animal that was trapped.
He followed Hermione into the house, relocking the door behind him.
To his surprise, the strong aroma of wheat filled the whole room, laughter could be faintly heard from the restaurant, and the gloomy atmosphere at 12 Grimmauld Place dissipated completely within a few hours.
He led Hermione through the hall and into the dining room.
As soon as he came down the stairs, he saw Sirius, Harry and Ron happily holding a bottle of butterbeer, James standing beside the dining table and talking loudly, Lily looked at her husband with her chin on her face and a smile on her face.
"...a dog, a wolf, and a hag walked into a tavern—"
James stopped. He saw Peter and Hermione standing at the door of the dining room.
"Come on!" cried James. "Wormtail and Hermione!"
The others turned their heads one after another, and Sirius waved to them cheerfully, "Come here quickly! We'll wait for you two to come before we start eating!"
Peter nudged Hermione on the shoulder, and the two walked towards the table.
Peter sat between James and Sirius, and Hermione sat between Harry and Ron.
Freshly baked bread, butter, smoked sausage, ham, honey roasts and stews were on the table, along with butterbeer and pumpkin juice, making for a hearty lunch indeed.
James patted Peter on the shoulder heavily, "I'm so happy, I don't know what happened this year, both Wormtail and Padfoot came back from abroad, and the four-man group of Predators back then was only missing a moon face .”
"Of course we came back to protect Harry," Sirius said with a more serious expression. "Someone put Harry's name into the Goblet of Fire, trying to use the Triwizard Cup to kill Harry."
"The man was disappointed," James said proudly, "Harry was only 14 years old and defeated the dragon - and I heard from Padfoot that the bug made a copy of Harry to help, what a transfiguration scholar. "
Speaking of which, James patted Peter on the shoulder again, and Ron also looked at Peter with admiration, but Hermione looked at Harry sternly, showing Professor McGonagall's eyes.
Harry bowed his head guiltily and took a sip of his butterbeer.
"When this school year is over, that guy with ulterior motives will find that not only is Harry safe and sound, but he's also holding the Triwizard Cup in his hand!" James said excitedly.
"You're so optimistic," Lily said reproachfully. "Who knows what kind of trouble that person will cause Harry in the next two projects?"
"Peter is now a professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Sirius is also a specially hired security officer. With them protecting Harry at school, what is there to be afraid of? If it is impossible, our family will open a potter's potion store in school (Hogg Watts branch)" James said with a grin.
Sirius, Harry, and Ron all smiled heartily, but Lily's expression remained serious.
She glared at James, who immediately sat down obediently, suppressing the smile on his face.
Lily said worriedly: "I heard that Xiao Chong was attacked in the basement corridor. Fortunately, he escaped from death..."
Peter didn't speak, he was thinking about whether to mention Snape's help on this occasion, it would be too shameful for him to claim credit for his narrow escape.
But before he could speak, Lily continued, "And Severus was seriously injured in the attack... We all know the strength of Xiao Chong and Sif, so the attacker is not simple."
Lily said Snape's name as naturally as possible, and seemed to have accepted his return from the dead, as if Harry or Dumbledore had told her about it in a letter.
But there was still a complicated look on her face.
Searching Wormtail's memory, Peter knew that Lily was Snape's only Gryffindor friend, to be precise, she was Snape's only true friend.
Whenever Snape was caught by the predators, everyone else looked at the joke coldly, only Lily would stand up to defend him.
Because of this, Lily and James used to be at odds, and they called each other "Potter" and "Evans".
After the Screaming Shack incident, Lily was probably the only one who grieved Snape's death, and the distance between her and James has been almost insurmountable since then.
But the war changed their destiny. After graduation, they joined the Order of the Phoenix, and gradually became comrades-in-arms who could rely on each other in life and death, and finally came together miraculously.
Snape's return of the dead undoubtedly forced James and Lily to bring up the rift that had been shelved back then.
Sure enough, after listening to Lily's words, James acted a little stiff, "Snape saved Peter, that's good...I'm glad he's still alive...I didn't save him back then..." He said incoherently.
"Last night, Phineas Nigellus suggested that we investigate Slytherin's relics, which is a good direction to investigate." Seeing that the atmosphere was getting more and more awkward, Peter quickly changed the subject, "This attacker may have something to do with Slytherin. Lin's relics are about—"
Peter stopped.
Kreacher came out of the kitchen tremblingly carrying two large plates. Peter didn't trust this weird house-elf.
"Dear masters, Kreacher has made his specialty kidney pie, please enjoy it. In addition, following the orders of Master Sirius, Kreacher has also made Master Harry's favorite fruit syrup pie."
He cast a spell to put the plate on the table, then turned and headed down to the kitchen again.
"If it wasn't for Master Regulus' entrustment, how could poor old Kreacher serve these gutter rats?" he whispered.
