Chapter 197 Bingzhou Situation ([-])

Tang Xuanzong believed that Yao Chong was just and selfless, but Wei Zhigu had failed Yao Chong, and wanted to remove him from his official position. Yao Chong said:

"Your Majesty's dismissal of Wei Zhigu, the minister's son has misbehaved and disturbed the law. People in the world will definitely think that your Majesty is partial to the minister."

Although Tang Xuanzong gave up, he finally dismissed Wei Zhigu as Minister of the Ministry of Industry. Liu Youqiu and Zhong Shaojing were also demoted because of Yao Chong's impeachment.

In the fourth year of Kaiyuan, a large-scale locust plague occurred in Shandong. Yao Chong advocated killing the locusts and burning their corpses. Local officials and people did not dare to kill the locusts.

Yao Chong cited examples of locust plagues in the Wei Dynasty that did not dare to be destroyed, which led to the depletion of vegetation, famine everywhere, and even the phenomenon of cannibalism to admonish Tang Xuanzong.

It is pointed out that cultivating morality and avoiding disasters is not to let disasters go unchecked, but to take the initiative to rescue disasters. If you sacrifice your life in order to protect the locusts and cause the country to be in crisis, you are truly defying the destiny.

Lu Huaishen, the supervisor of Huangmen, believed that natural disasters cannot be subdued by manpower, and Yao Chong refuted loudly:
"Killing the locusts to save the people is a good deed. If the heavens send disasters, I, Yao Chong, will bear all the responsibility, and I will never pass the blame on to others."

Yao Chong's firm determination to plead for the people finally moved Tang Xuanzong, and Xuanzong ordered the extermination of locusts. In the end, the people were saved from disaster and the world was peaceful.

Yao Chong was "famous for his literature", "a weak crown complements filial piety, and he also controls and promotes a high rank". Zhang Shuo said that Yao Chong "presented algae to make him glow".

"Old Book of Tang·Jing Ji Zhi Xia" and "New Book of Tang·Yi Wen Zhi IV" both recorded ten volumes of "Yao Chong Ji", which have been lost.

"Quan Tang Poems" contains six poems, and Mr. Chen Shangjun contains two poems in "Quan Tang Poems Continued".

"The bright moon has more lessons, but people are not at peace. Osmanthus contains autumn trees, shadows are cold in the night pool, burning clouds and branches are clear, light and grass are dew clusters, where thoughts are lost, and long-term sight alone sighs."

This poem is regarded as when Yao Chong's career was frustrated and he was far away from Chang'an. In the poem, he used the autumn night to look at the moon to express his love for rouge.

Yao Chong's "Crossing the River at Night" says:

"There is floating smoke in the night, the sky is vast and dark, the boat is light and you don't feel it moving, the cable is in a hurry, you don't know it, you listen to the grass to find the shore, you smell the fragrance, you know the lotus, you only see the shadow of a lonely sail, it's always like a guest's heart hangs."

The two couplets in the middle are not only neatly contrasted, but also write a process of never being aware of the dark.

Yao Chong served as prime minister successively in the three dynasties of Wu Zetian, Ruizong, and Xuanzong. No matter in terms of political achievements or seniority, almost no one at that time could compare.

However, this experienced prime minister, "treasure not to be greedy" and "teach honesty and prudence" all his life. Even in the Kaiyuan period when the national power of the Tang Dynasty reached its peak and his personal official position reached its peak, he was still "honorable and diligent". , Plug the door of greed and competition", and lived a very frugal life.

Because of his incorruptibility, he only takes "dead wages" and has no gray income, so he can't afford a house in the urban area of the capital, and the whole family has to live in a suburb far away from the imperial court.

Wu Zetian once talked with his courtiers about Zhou Xing and Lai Junchen presiding over prisons, and there were many cases of rebellion by courtiers. He wondered whether there were unjust prisons among them. Yao Chongjin said:
"Since Chuigong, most of the people who have been executed for treason have been caused by Zhou Xing and others fabricating the crimes so that they can claim credit for themselves.

His Majesty sent close ministers to investigate, and these ministers could not protect themselves, so how dare they shake their conclusions!

If the person being questioned retracts his confession, and he is afraid of being tortured, he would rather die early than that. Now that the cruel officials are being punished, I pledge the lives of my whole family to Your Majesty.

From now on, the ministers inside and outside the court will no longer have rebellious people. If there is a slight rebellion, I am willing to bear the responsibility of not telling. "

Wu Zetian rejoiced and said:

"The previous prime ministers were obedient to Zhou Xing and others, making the cruel officials succeed and making me a monarch who abused punishment. Hearing what you said is very much in my mind."

So Yao Chong was rewarded with a thousand taels of silver. After the Shenlong coup, Wu Zetian moved to Shangyang Palace. All the officials praised each other for the restoration of the Tang Dynasty. Only Yao Chong could not stop crying. Zhang Jianzhi said to him:
"Is this the time to weep today? I'm afraid you will be in trouble from now on."

Yao Chongdao: "I have served Emperor Zetian for a long time, and now I bid farewell suddenly, I feel unbearably sad.

I follow you to punish the evil, and I am doing my duty as a courtier. Weeping farewell to the old master today is also the virtue of a courtier. Even if I am convicted because of this, I am willing to do so. "

During Tang Zhongzong's period, nobles and relatives competed to build Buddhist temples and overpaid monks and nuns. Many wealthy households also took the opportunity to cut off their hair and become monks to escape corvee. After Yao Chong came to power, he said:
"Fotucheng and Kumarajiva, who are known as eminent monks, could not save the later Zhao and later Qin from demise. Qi Shizong and Liang Wudi worshiped Buddhism, but they could not avoid disasters.

As long as your majesty can make the people live and work in peace and contentment, you will be a Buddha body, and there is no need to shave treacherous people and let them corrupt the Dharma! "

Tang Xuanzong adopted his suggestion and ordered officials to screen and eliminate monks and nuns across the country. More than [-] monks and nuns were ordered to return to secular life because of falsification.

Yao Chong once asked Qi Huan from Ziweishe:

"As Prime Minister, who can I compare with? Can I compare with Guan Zhong and Yan Ying?"

Qi Huan said:
"Although the policies adopted by Guan Zhongyanying could not be passed on to later generations, they could be maintained during their reign.

The laws you make are subject to change, and from this point of view, you seem to be inferior to them. "

Yao Chong asked again: "Then what kind of prime minister am I?"

Qi Huan said: "You are a man who saves time."

It means that Yao Chong is just the prime minister who saves the current situation. Yao Chong is overjoyed and clapped his legs and said: "The prime minister who saves the time is not easy to get."

When Tang Xuanzong was about to visit Luoyang, the Taimiao suddenly collapsed, and Song Jing remonstrated:
"Your Majesty has not been in mourning for three years, so you must not leave Beijing for tours. If a catastrophe occurs, it is a warning from the heavens. Your Majesty should stop traveling east."

Tang Xuanzong asked Yao Chong, who had been dismissed, and Yao Chong said:
"The Taimiao was originally a palace built in the pre-Qin period. It was later changed to the Taimiao by Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, and was used by the Tang Dynasty. It has existed for nearly 300 years.

If the mountain is corrupt, it will collapse, not to mention the wood. The collapse of the Taimiao just happened to coincide with His Majesty's eastward journey, not because you wanted to travel eastward.

Your Majesty was fortunate enough to go east to Luoyang because of the poor harvest in Guanzhong and the labor of grain transportation to the people. This is for the sake of the people.

In my opinion, His Majesty will continue to travel eastward, and as for the Taimiao, let someone repair it. "

Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty rejoiced, and Zhang said that he once served as prime minister with Yao Chong, but they often had conflicts and resented him deeply. When Yao Chong was dying, he told his son:

"After I died, Zhang said that out of courtesy, he would definitely come to express his condolences. You can display all the treasures and utensils in my collection. He likes this kind of things the most.

If he doesn’t read it, then you will be in danger. If he reads it, you can give him what he likes, and ask him to write a Shinto tablet for me.

After you get the inscription, write it down immediately, and engrave it immediately after reporting it to the emperor. Zhang said that he will regret it and ask for the inscription back, so you tell him that he has reported it to the emperor. "

Thank you book friends for voting and rewarding, Yanyu will continue to work hard to update!
