Chapter 34 The Mirror of Erised

Chapter 34 The Mirror of Erised

But Percy was just incompetent and furious. Hera was still his Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. If he wanted to get an O, he could only suppress his inner anger.

Percy considered himself a reasonable man who knew what was right.

He silently threw the cursed parchment into the fireplace, as if nothing had happened.

"Hera, I've heard students talking about you recently." Dumbledore smiled rarely, looking at the handsome young man in front of him, very pleased. "Your talents are put to good use here."

"Hehe." Hera laughed perfunctorily, the old fox's face-changing is really fast!

How did you say it?

"The students spoke very well of you, but I heard that the girl from Ravenclaw would visit your office every week?" Dumbledore changed the subject, and the smile on his face seemed to disappear.

"Penello?" Hera frowned, "It's just helping me sort out the content of the class together. After all, I didn't prepare before. But I want to ask, professor, is Fox taking me to the classroom on Monday morning?"

"Oh, that's good." Dumbledore nodded, but did not answer Hera's second half of the sentence.

"Professor Dumbledore, I need an explanation, why Fox brought me into the classroom?" Hera sighed and repeated, it was really difficult for this old fox to pretend to be stupid.

"Oh, that, maybe Fawkes was worried that you forgot to go to class, right? Fawkes." Dumbledore glanced at Fawkes, who was in nirvana and had just turned into a mass of ashes.

To co-author is to dump the blame on Phoenix, who can't speak?
Hera gritted his teeth, he admitted that he had indeed forgotten to go to class, but Fox took himself to the classroom, what if he had no clothes on?
He didn't expect Fox to understand human shame.

"Dumbledore, I think you should give me the most basic respect. I am not your subordinate. I just chose the righteous side, so I told you all the information, but this does not mean that I will accept your unreasonable arrangements."

Hera took a deep breath, and finished such a long paragraph in one breath without any politeness.

Dumbledore frowned, and the people in the portrait behind him also planned to escape, and they didn't want to bear Dumbledore's anger.

"Hera, I hope you can trust me more." Dumbledore rubbed his temples, fell back on the chair and sighed.

Hera didn't give in at all, and even took a step forward, oppressing Dumbledore, "Then please show me some evidence that I can trust. I've told all the information I know, but you haven't told me anything."

"But you didn't tell me that you went to steal the Philosopher's Stone with Quirrell." Dumbledore's half-moon-shaped lenses flashed, and he looked at Hera with a hint of playfulness in his tone. "How about Snape?"

"Uh, Occlumency is pretty good, right?" Hera pursed her lips, lacking in confidence.

In order to leave a good impression on Dumbledore before, he concealed the fact that he went to Gringotts with Quirrell, only saying that he only knew about it later.

Dumbledore sighed, got up and came out from behind the desk.

Hera wasn't worried that Dumbledore would do anything to hurt him. The reason why the White Lord was different from the Dark Lord was because he was reasonable and would not gnaw on Avada at every turn.

"Come with me, there are some things that should be shown to you, after all, trust is mutual."

Hera followed Dumbledore to a corner of the principal's office, where there was an unknown object covered with a piece of cloth.

Dumbledore motioned sideways to Hera to tear off the top cloth.

This is a very imposing mirror, reaching to the ceiling, in a gorgeous gold frame, supported by two claw-shaped feet. The top is engraved with a line of words: Erisstra ahruait Ubi Kafruait en Voges.

"Is this the Mirror of Erised?" Hera couldn't believe her eyes.

The corner of Dumbledore's mouth twitched, "Haha, as expected, extraordinary wisdom is the greatest wealth of human beings. This year's young wizards are very lucky to have such a knowledgeable professor as you."

Hera looked at herself in the mirror, sitting high on the throne, kneeling in front of a bunch of hooded wizards, unable to see their faces clearly.

"I suppose you know its magic by now?"

"It can see the greatest desire of the heart." Hera couldn't help but stepped forward, her palm almost touching the mirror.

"Calm down, Hera, those are unreal, people waste their time in front of it, obsessed with what they see, and even driven crazy." Dumbledore said softly.

"I think so, Professor." Hera forcibly turned her eyes away, but there was a voice in her heart telling him - he just wanted everyone to submit to him, so that everyone would no longer dare to criticize him, no longer dare to look down on him
"What did you see?" Dumbledore asked lightly.

"I saw Galleons, full of Galleons." Hera sighed, "I was lying in the Galleons and swimming, it was really wonderful, but those are all illusory"

"Wealth does fascinate people." Dumbledore nodded.

Hera covered the Mirror of Erised again with the cloth in her hand, and what it showed was so tempting that Hera was a little hard to resist.

"I'm going to hide the Philosopher's Stone in the mirror, and only those who wish to have it—to find it, but not to use it—will get it."

Dumbledore said very happily, and Hera couldn't help clapping her hands.

"Your wisdom really amazes the students, such a genius design." Hera put on a smile on her face, and completely lost the look of being at war with Dumbledore just now.

Dumbledore interrupted Hera's flattery with a wave of his hand. He always knew that Hera had no face at all, but when he really got to know him, he found that he was really shameless, even worse than Mundungus.

"Well, why don't you go back to the office? I'm sure Miss Clearwater has been waiting for you for a long time."

Hera hesitated, "Professor, can I ask you a word?"

"Of course." Dumbledore nodded without any pressure.

"When you looked into the magic mirror, what did you see?"

"I—I saw myself holding a pair of thick wool socks."

Hera rubbed her chin, turned and left.

Dumbledore looked at Hera's back with complicated eyes.

"I don't know if it's good or bad"

At last there was only a long sigh.
